An embarrassed smile appeared on the man's face. He held his head and slowly slid off the sofa, squatting down in front of it. "Inspector Selena, we're just trying to earn some money for baby formula."
His gaze, however, was fixed on what was behind Selena.
Among the group of people whose wrists had been pierced, one man slowly pulled a small pistol from his pocket and pointed it at Selena's head.
boom--
Gunfire suddenly rang out.
Bright red blood splattered all over the ground.

Selena looked up, puzzled, at Heo who had picked up the pistol.
He's gaze, however, was fixed on what was behind Selena.
A blood-soaked corpse slid onto the hotel floor, its eyes wide open, clutching a small pistol tightly in its hand, tiny bullet holes visible between its eyebrows.
The bullet entered through his forehead, pierced the back of his head, and blew off half of his head.
One shot to the head, without hesitation.
He actually wanted to appear more composed, but that didn't fit the image of a 'rookie investigator' who was committing his first murder. So he could only try to appear a little dull, like a novice making an emergency response.
Of course, using firearms is not Heo's ability, but rather Ander's talent.
Ander himself has a high talent for firearms, which is why he was transferred to be Selena's assistant. In the past half hour, Heo has been getting used to Ander's body and habits.
Selena glanced at He Ao with a hint of shock. She had only brought this newbie along to "broaden his horizons," but she hadn't expected He Ao to bring her such an "unexpected surprise."
Meanwhile, He Ao maintained a blank stare as he looked at his men in silver suits carrying guns.
These people never put down their guns from the beginning. He didn't know why Selena didn't attack them, but their guns were always a threat.
Under He Ao's gaze, these people slowly lowered their weapons, covered their heads, and squatted down.
Although Selena is experienced, she doesn't kill people. This seemingly young and naive guy in front of her, on the contrary, is capable of killing.
The FBI has the authority to kill anyone who resists during an operation.
These people are not without fear, but rather they are fearless because they have something to rely on.
boom--
The suite door was flung open, and police officers in black uniforms filed in. "Dawn City Police Department, everyone immediately put your hands on your heads and squat down."

After half an hour of fussing, He Ao and Selena finally left the hotel.
The burly man in the vest and his surviving henchmen were taken away by FBI agents, while the man in the silver suit and his gang were taken away by the Dawn City police.
Heo and Selena sat side by side in the back of the FBI vehicle, falling into a brief silence.
He Ao still had to continue pretending to be a 'newbie' who had just committed murder.
He knew what emotions a person should feel when they kill for the first time. First, there was a deep sense of loss, a feeling of emptiness and desolation, followed by fear and terror. If this fear reached its extreme, it could even trigger physiological reactions such as nausea and vomiting.
As a trained FBI trainee investigator, Ender naturally couldn't have a strong physiological reaction, but he still felt a slight emptiness and fear.
He Ao had not received any formal acting training, but he could understand the feeling of killing for the first time, so his performance was quite good.
“Your mental fortitude is even better than I imagined,” Selena thought for a moment, patted Heo on the shoulder, and smiled. “It’s alright.”
As her superior, she needed to pay attention to He Ao's mental state, and He Ao's performance was actually considered good among the newbies.
Her hand
With a gentle flip, a small glass bottle containing a light green liquid appeared in his palm—the very item the two groups had just traded. "Do you know what this is?"
He Ao shook his head.
"IB-II, a potent addictive hallucinogen, can drive anyone who injects it to madness, even bankrupting them and causing their families to be destroyed."
Selena looked out the window. The car seemed to be passing a small park filled with mechanical toys, and some young children were playing around them. "If these things were allowed to fall into Dawn City, countless children would lose their parents and families, become homeless, and many, many people would die tragically. So you didn't kill one person, but saved countless families."
Selena turned around, looked into Heo's eyes, and said, word by word, "So, what you did was justice."
"justice?"
He chewed on the word.
He turned his head and looked out the car window on his side. Across from the mechanical park where children were playing, there was an old building. Below the building, in a corner of the street, some disheveled homeless people were sitting in front of triangular tents, eating cold bread and watching the children playing in the park.
Above them, a huge display screen was embedded in the middle of the building.
It appears that a program is playing on the monitor.
The host, dressed in a crisp white shirt, black stockings, and a pencil skirt, with exquisite makeup, sat on a pink sofa, looking directly at the camera.
"Viewers, welcome to today's 'Fifteen Minutes'. Our guest today is Mr. Christos, the frontrunner in this mayoral election."
The camera switched to the other side, and a tall, handsome, and reliable-looking silver-haired man in a neat white suit appeared on the monitor. "Hello everyone, I'm very happy to be invited to 'Fifteen Minutes' today to explain my campaign platform. If I become mayor, I will implement universal healthcare, increase taxes on corporations, and create more jobs..."
The homeless people sitting below the building seemed to hear the speech on television; they looked up at the screen.
“Mr. Christos, excuse me for interrupting, this is an interview program, not your live campaign speech.”
The host quickly interrupted Christos.
“Oh, that’s great! I thought ‘fifteen minutes’ meant preparing a fifteen-minute speech. I’ve already prepared a fifteen-minute speech,” Christos said, pulling out a thick stack of speech notes from somewhere, folding it, and stuffing it into his pocket.
"To make it fifteen minutes, I even added a few jokes. Now it looks like I don't need to make it fifteen minutes anymore, which is really good news..."
He could no longer hear what was said after that, because his vehicle had moved away from the television broadcasting the program, turned into a narrow street, and finally stopped in front of a somewhat secluded building.
"Let's go, let's take a look at your new office." Selena led Heo through the main entrance and towards the elevator.
"This entire building belongs to the FBI, but currently only forty..."
Floors 30 up to 69, as well as floors 1 through 3 below ground, are used by the FBI; the rest of the space is rented out to subsidize the government.
Selena pressed the button for the 52nd floor and smiled at He Ao.
"rent?"
He recalled that the building appeared to have at least a hundred floors above ground, but only thirty floors were actually in use, and it seemed that most of them were rented out.
“Yes, and the price isn’t low,” Selena smiled. “Some hotel chains, apartments, and some businesses are very willing to work with the FBI; we can give them a great sense of security.”
Ding--
As we were talking, the elevator reached the 52nd floor. The entire ascent took no more than two minutes and was smooth and quiet.
As the elevator doors opened automatically, He Ao's view came into view of a series of small cubicles separated by frosted glass.
“The 52nd floor is where the Criminal Investigation Department is located,” Selena said, leading He Ao through a series of small cubicles. Some of the cubicle doors were open, while others were tightly closed. The people inside were all busy and rarely looked up to notice the two of them. Finally, they stopped in front of a cubicle in a corner.
A piece of white paper was taped to the door of the cubicle, and it read: [Criminal Investigation Team Two]
Selena placed her hand on the cubicle door, and with a soft creak, the lock was unlocked. Selena pushed the door open and went inside.
"Criminal Investigation Team Two is a newly established team. Although we are on the 52nd floor, we are not under the jurisdiction of the Criminal Investigation Department, but under the jurisdiction of the Wilderness Field Operations Department. Our supervisor is a bald man named Smith. Um... you will see him soon."
The room was very simply decorated, with two desks, two stools, and two ultra-thin monitors.
“Currently, there are only the two of us in Criminal Investigation Team Two,” Selena said, closing the door behind her and leaning back on her desk. “Although you interned at the FBI a long time ago and should be very clear about our responsibilities, I still need to explain it to you.”
The FBI's primary responsibility is to investigate cases involving the wilderness or intercity areas, while cases within the city that do not involve intercity areas fall under the jurisdiction of the Dawn Police Department. Of course, there are sometimes overlapping cases, and we will cooperate to resolve them.
For example, the two groups of people we just arrested—the big, clumsy guy was a homeless person from the wilderness, under our jurisdiction, while the guy in the silver suit was from the local gang, the Money Rat Gang, under the jurisdiction of the Dawn City Police Department. Sometimes, when the police can't handle a problem, they'll come to us for help.
She looked at He Ao, who still seemed a little confused, and smiled. "That's just how complicated the federal system is. You'll gradually understand it. Let's talk about something happier."
She took out a silver bracelet from her hand and handed it to He Ao, saying, "While you were unconscious, I already connected the bracelet to the Dawn City Federal Bureau of Investigation's system."
I don't know how your previous city calculated wages, but in Dawn City, wages are settled weekly. Your weekly wage is 800 Federal Credits. Last week's wages will be deposited into your account on time every Wednesday. The FBI has purchased full Social Security and commercial medical insurance for you..."
As Selena was speaking, the monitor on her desk suddenly lit up, and a balding middle-aged man appeared on the screen.
“Selena, bad news. A dangerous guy may have infiltrated Dawn City.”
"Who?"
Selena stopped talking and looked at the monitor.
"Muxiu, the priest of the god of chaos, is a rational evil god priest."
Smith said calmly.

"That was a really good shot."
Some thin, scholarly-looking middle-aged men squatted beside the incinerator, using their hands, gloved in pure white, to brush aside their blood-stained hair and stare at the bullet hole that had pierced precisely between their eyebrows.
"That new kid seems to be a natural-born sniper; his shooting scores are all excellent."
Beside him, a portly man with rough skin, wearing a shirt and brown overalls, lit a cigarette and put it in his mouth.
"Weina, when you killed someone for the first time, did you also use a gun?"
Smith didn't turn around, but asked softly.
“Yes,” Winner took a deep drag on his cigarette, the red glow creeping up the pure white smoke, smoke billowing from his nostrils, “That was my first mission, and I met a corrupted madman.”
"How many shots were fired?"
"Eight shots. The first seven shots missed vital organs, but the last shot shattered the guy's head."
“But this little guy only needed one shot,” Smith twisted the corpse’s head again, looking at the shattered back of the skull, where tiny, pure white mycelium was wriggling.
“If he didn’t have some experiences we don’t know about, then he’s a natural hunter.”
He slowly turned around, threw the blood-stained white glove on the corpse, and pressed the red button next to it.
