“Huh?” Ryan was taken aback. He didn’t quite understand why Heo was asking this question. “I don’t know them very well, but I’ve been arrested by them before, Mr. Jess. You know, we gangsters always have some…”
"Do you have a friend's phone number?" He Ao said quickly. "If not, just call the FBI's emergency number. We want to report someone smuggling federal prohibited materials."
"what?"
Ryan was taken aback. "But Mr. Jess, we're a gang..."
He looked at him strangely.
"What are you talking about? We are law-abiding and enthusiastic citizens."
Chapter 582 The Second Laboratory (Long Chapter, Requesting Monthly Tickets)
Cars drove along the old road.
A neatly dressed, refined-looking middle-aged man was standing on the side of the road with a young man with an afro and a sleazy appearance.
Both of them held a Coke in one hand and a huge hamburger in the other, watching the passing cars.
"This burger tastes pretty good. The food around Plant District is pretty good."
Ryan took a bite of the burger, his mouth covered in salad dressing and lettuce.
"I used to frequent this area for a while,"
He glanced at the towering Whirlpool Hospital building not far behind him. "That's when I discovered this restaurant. It's cheap, the portions are large, and it tastes good."
"really."
Ryan mumbled as he chewed on his hamburger.
Although he often wanders around and is familiar with the roads, he tends to stick to the same places to eat and doesn't often look for these hidden roadside shops to buy food.
"Is anyone going in or out of that building?"
He Ao also took a bite of his hamburger and asked vaguely.
"Let me see,"
Ryan raised his wristband, and a surveillance video was projected onto the entrance of the small building. When they left, they placed a miniature camera not far from the entrance of the building to monitor its activity.
Ryan's car has many of these 'gadgets'.
"No," the projected image flashed rapidly, showing the sounds of them leaving the small building's entrance, "no one went in or out."
"it is good."
He took a sip of his cola. He had already checked before leaving; the small building had no other obvious entrances or exits.
According to Eve's calculations, they had been walking in a blind spot of the cameras and had not yet been exposed.
beep--
Just then, a piercing horn sounded from in front of them, and a brightly colored, expensive modified vehicle slowly pulled up in front of them.
The car turned right, seemingly preparing to drive onto the pedestrian crossing at the Heo and Ryan stations. The driver leaned out of the driver's side window, glanced at the two people still eating hamburgers, and said, "You two beggars over there, get out of the way! Can't you see my car is coming? If you don't move, I'll run you over."
He Ao looked up, puzzled, at the driver who had poked his head out.
In that instant, the driver felt as if he had fallen into a cold ice cave, and the fear of death spread from the soles of his feet all the way to the top of his head.
Without any hesitation, he got back into the car, turned the steering wheel, stepped on the gas, and sped away along the road.
"Hey, where's the driver?"
Ryan held a hamburger and a cola in one hand, while simultaneously drawing a pistol in the other. He turned his head blankly, looking at the car that had disappeared, leaving only its taillights visible, a hint of bewilderment in his eyes.
"I hadn't even drawn my gun yet, how did he get away?"
"Perhaps they saw that we were all quite friendly and gave up on causing us trouble."
He Ao took a bite of his hamburger and looked in the direction from which the car had just come.
"Is that so?"
Ryan put the gun back in his waistband with some doubt. In all these years, this was the first time he had heard someone use the word 'kind' to describe him.
Could it be that he was infected after following Professor Jess around?
Has she gained some class?
Just then, a black and white car stopped in front of the two of them.
The passenger window rolled down, revealing the person sitting in the passenger seat.
The older man, dressed in an FBI uniform with a miniature earpiece on his ear, rested his hand on the car window and looked at Ryan with an incredulous expression.
"Ryan, you reported smuggled contraband materials nearby? Has your boss made enemies with a smuggling ring?"
"No."
Ryan quickly shook his head, took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, and handed it to the old detective.
"So you're planning to abandon the darkness and join the light, betray your boss, and become a tainted witness?"
The old detective waved his hand, refusing Ryan's cigarette. He took out a pack of cigarettes from his pocket, put one in his mouth, and lit it with an electronic lighter.
At the same time, he pushed open the car door and got out of the car.
"What are you saying? Don't you know our boss? We don't get involved in those kinds of businesses,"
Ryan quickly said, putting away his cigarette and standing next to Heo, "We're just concerned citizens passing by."
"A concerned citizen?"
The old detective raised an eyebrow, his gaze shifting to He Ao. He extended his hand to He Ao, saying, "Hu En."
"Jace."
He Ao also extended his hand and shook hands with the agent.
Ryan had introduced Agent Hu En to Heo during the phone call.
He was formerly one of the FBI agents in charge of the West Side, and one of the few FBI agents in Westland known for his impartiality. He took down many gangs, which at one point brought signs of improvement to the order in the West Side.
Later, he was transferred to the less troublesome Plant District by those gangs and the financial groups behind the middlemen.
Actually, this Agent Hu En is also an 'acquaintance' of He Ao. Last night at the mental hospital, the FBI agent that the mysterious man summoned was also him.
"So where is the suspected smuggling location you mentioned?"
Hu En glanced around and then looked back at Ryan.
"In there."
Ryan pointed to the alley.
It's actually quite a distance from here to the small building the van drove into.
When making the call, Heo did not ask Ryan to specify the exact location, but instead gave a vague address.
The purpose is simple: to prevent the mysterious person from knowing the news in advance.
"Alright, let's go take a look."
Hu En was clearly a seasoned veteran; he didn't ask Ryan why he hadn't specified the address in the first place.
Heo and Ryan got back into their nearby car, and Hu En's car followed them.
The two cars circled around once and then stopped again at the entrance of the alley.
Everyone got out of the car.
On Heo's side were Heo and Ryan, while Hu En was with a young agent dressed similarly to him, also wearing headphones.
“Sweet, the new recruit I’m mentoring.”
Hu En introduced the agent to He Ao.
"Jace."
He Ao reached out his hand.
“Hello,” the young agent shook hands with Heo, his gaze then fixed on the bone axe and wooden box slung across Heo’s back. He opened his mouth, “This is…”
"I am a researcher in biology, and these are some small jobs."
Tool."
He Ao said calmly.
The wooden box looks relatively normal, but that sharp axe... Does biology require carrying an axe? What kind of research method is this?
Sweet was stunned for a moment. He began to wonder if he hadn't read enough or had enough experience.
"Sweet, keep up."
Before Sweet could even voice his question, Huen patted him on the shoulder, gesturing for him to move forward.
"Ok."
Sweet put aside his curiosity and followed Huen's steps.
He Ao glanced at Hu En's back and then walked up to him.
This time, Ryan led the way, taking everyone to the small building.
"It was right here that we saw the vehicle transporting the prohibited materials drive into this building."
Ryan pointed to the small building.
"There's a smell of blood here."
Hu En glanced at the miniature laser cannon disguised as a camera and frowned slightly.
He took a deep breath, straightened his clothes, and placed his FBI insignia in the most conspicuous position. "Wait here for a moment."
Just then, He Ao reached out and stopped him, saying, "I'll go with you."
Hu En turned his head, looked at He Ao's figure, and then at the muzzle of the laser cannon that He Ao had just blocked, and seemed to be deep in thought.
Finally, he nodded. "Okay."
The two of them then walked together toward the gate.
