"No, my parents are probably Muggles. I've never met them, so I don't know if they're wizards. I grew up in an orphanage."
"Sorry, Jerry, I didn't know you were an orphan."
“It’s okay, Hermione, aren’t we friends?” Jerry said with a smile, his golden hair as warm as the winter sun.
“Yes, Jerry, we’re friends. You have no idea how excited I was when I received my Hogwarts acceptance letter. My parents didn’t believe in magic. Later, Professor McGonagall came to my house and explained it to them…”
Hermione suddenly became very happy and started talking non-stop, leaving Jerry a little overwhelmed.
“Let me tell you, Jerry, I’ve practically memorized the first-year textbook. You know, we come from Muggle families, so we’re definitely behind students from wizarding families. At first, I was really anxious, but I felt a little better after memorizing the textbook. I just don’t know if that’s enough.”
"I'm about the same, but not as good as you. I just learned a few spells from the textbook."
"Really? Just like me, I also practiced it during the summer vacation..."
Whether it was because Hermione and he both came from Muggle families or because they both loved learning, Hermione suddenly started talking non-stop, as if she wanted to tell Jerry all her thoughts and feelings.
Jerry showed no impatience, listening to her with a smile throughout, occasionally asking a few small questions, which Hermione would answer, followed by an expression of understanding or thoughtfulness.
The two chatted for a long time until a kind-looking young man walked in.
Are there any seats left in this carriage?
"Yes, please have a seat."
"Thank you. My name is Neville Longbottom, and I'm a freshman this year."
“We are. This is Hermione, and I’m Jerry,” Jerry introduced the two to Neville.
All three were freshmen this year, so they talked about similar topics and quickly became familiar with each other.
As they chatted, the three of them started talking about the college division.
“I think that as a prestigious school, Hogwarts must decide which houses to be sorted by entrance exams,” Hermione said confidently.
“But my grandma told me it’s based on talent, and I feel like I’m so stupid I’ll be expelled.” In stark contrast to Hermione’s confidence, Neville’s personality was even somewhat insecure, which was related to his childhood experiences.
“Neville, don’t be so pessimistic. The fact that you received your Hogwarts acceptance letter means you’re qualified to become a wizard. Hogwarts never expels students arbitrarily,” Jerry and Hermione comforted him.
Which college do you all want to go to?
"I want to go to Gryffindor the most. My grandma said that my parents graduated from Gryffindor. Anyway, it's not Slytherin. I heard that all the Slytherins are dark wizards."
“I also want to go to Gryffindor. The headmaster of Hogwarts is a Gryffindor graduate,” Hermione continued.
“I don’t really care. Each house has its own characteristics, so it doesn’t matter which one I go to, since it’s all about studying anyway. But Hermione, I think you should be more suited to Ravenclaw.”
Hermione agreed with the suggestion and nodded, then she and Jerry started discussing the spells again.
Hermione also demonstrated a few spells to Jerry that she had learned on her own during the summer.
The same goes for Jerry.
Neville, watching from the side, was a little stunned, feeling that these two would become some kind of big shots in the future.
Chapter 7 Hello, Cool Guy; Goodbye, Cool Guy
"Jerry, Hermione, have you seen my Rafer?" Neville suddenly realized he seemed to have lost the toad and started searching the carriage.
Who is Leif?
“It’s my pet toad, and I often forget where I put it,” Neville said, starting to get anxious.
"Jerry, let's help Neville look for him in the carriage." Seeing Neville's round face turning red with anxiety, Hermione pulled Jerry up and started searching for him.
The three searched the carriage thoroughly, looking in every corner, but still couldn't find the toad.
"Neville, did you bring Rafer onto the train?" Hermione asked, somewhat suspiciously.
“I forgot whether I brought it or not. I’ve always had a bad memory. Now that Rafe is lost too, Grandma will definitely be very disappointed in me.”
"Don't worry, Rafer is a magical creature, he won't get lost. He must have hidden himself. Maybe he'll reappear automatically when he gets to school." Jerry knew this part of the story and said calmly, then sat back down in his seat.
“Don’t worry, Neville, your toad is a magical creature. It’s probably just hiding from you. Let’s go ask in the other carriages.” Hermione saw that Neville was still uneasy and decided to take him out to look for it.
"Jerry, come with us to find it! The three of you, please hurry!" Hermione grabbed Jerry's hand, her eyes filled with expectation and pleading.
As a gentleman, how could Jerry refuse a girl!
“Alright, alright, let’s split up. Hermione, you take Neville to the back carriage, I’ll go to the front carriage and ask around, then we’ll meet up here.”
Hermione was delighted that Jerry had agreed to her request, and she hurried off with Neville to the back of the carriage.
"Hello, have you seen a toad?" Jerry asked from carriage to carriage, but couldn't find one. However, the difference in the quality of Hogwarts students was really big. Some answered him politely, while others told him to get lost, especially some Slytherin students.
Haha, Jerry remembered what those guys looked like. They'd better not be alone during their next few years at school.
After wandering around the first half of the carriage without finding anything, I returned to my own carriage.
"Slytherin is the best house at Hogwarts, none of you deserve to be there!"
As soon as Jerry entered the carriage, he saw Hermione arguing with several people. The one in the lead was a boy with light blond hair who looked arrogant and conceited, followed by his two little followers, one fat and one thin.
"Jerry, you're back."
"Hermione, what happened?"
"It's nothing, a few annoying people just got into the carriage." He then gave the group a disgusted look.
"Who are you? What are you doing in our carriage?"
"Draco Malfoy." The boy paused deliberately in the middle, intentionally emphasizing his surname.
“Behind me are Gregory Gore and Vincent Crabbe, and you?” Malfoy asked, noticing Jerry’s distinguished air.
Jerry Green
Malfoy racked his brains but couldn't recall any Green family. He turned to ask his two henchmen, who both shook their heads.
Which family are you from?
"Can't you tell? I was born into a Muggle family."
"Do you know what the surname Malfoy represents?" Upon hearing Jerry's answer, Malfoy became even more arrogant, and his eyes turned contemptuous.
"I don't know, and I don't want to know. Please leave." Hermione didn't want to deal with any of this right now; she just wanted to get rid of these annoying people as soon as possible.
"So you're two Mudbloods..." Hermione joked arrogantly with the two people behind her when she heard that the Malfoys didn't recognize them.
"What did you just say?" Jerry's eyes suddenly turned cold as he looked at the group who were still laughing.
"What, you want to hit me? I said she and you are both mud... Ah!"
Before he could finish speaking, Jerry punched him in the nose.
Malfoy screamed and squatted on the ground, his nose bleeding uncontrollably.
Seeing that his two henchmen hadn't reacted yet, he shouted, "Goyle, Crabbe, you two idiots, didn't you see I got hit? Hurry up and do it!"
The two lackeys behind him only realized what was happening when they heard their boss cursing. They rolled up their sleeves, clenched their fists, and punched Jerry.
"All petrified"
"All petrified"
Jerry, being rather unsportsmanlike, pulled out his wand and cast two petrification spells, freezing Goyle and Crabbe in place.
When Malfoy saw his two henchmen petrified, he got up and turned to run away.
Jerry's wand flicked slightly, and a beam of green light shot out from the tip.
He had barely run two steps when Malfoy was upside down by Jerry's spell and hung upside down.
"What do you want to do?" Malfoy asked, somewhat alarmed.
"Don't come over here!"
Jerry smiled and approached Malfoy. "Don't be afraid, classmate. I just saw you had a nosebleed and wanted to stop it for you."
"You're finished. My dad's on the school board. I'll make sure he gets Dumbledore to expel you, and that muddy guy over there too..."
With a loud "thump," Jerry punched Malfoy in the stomach: "What did you just say? I didn't hear you clearly?"
"Cough, cough~" Malfoy almost fainted at this moment, drooling and crying.
"Mr. Malfoy, I heard you're a nobleman? Noblemen must be very concerned about their reputation, right?"
"Malfoy, you don't want anyone else to know what happened today, do you?!"
"Of course."
"And your nose?"
"I'm inflamed, you, you're helping...helping me stop the bleeding." She stammered as tears streamed down her face again.
"That's more like it. We're all from the same school, so we should help each other out."
Malfoy wiped away his tears and nodded frantically.
After breaking the petrification spell on Goyle and Crabbe, and then kicking each of them once, they broke the spell on Malfoy. The three of them helped each other away.
"Jerry, are you sure you're okay? Will they tell the professor and expel you?"
"Let them go, Hermione. It's their fault for calling you a Mudblood. It's a very vicious insult in the wizarding world. If anyone calls you that again, just pull out your wand or come to me, and I'll get revenge for you."
"Yes, Jerry, you're so nice!" Hermione blushed slightly as she looked at Jerry's handsome face and gentle smile.
"Where's Neville?" Jerry looked around but couldn't find Neville.
"We found Harry Potter in the back carriage. Neville was chatting with them, but I couldn't connect with them, so I came back first."
Hermione met several new students from wizarding families today and found that they weren't as impressive as she had imagined. They were impolite and rude. Compared to them, Jerry was much better. He even liked reading just like her, which made him seem perfect.
"Did he find his toad?"
"Well, maybe he forgot again."
Jerry, Hermione: "..."
