Charlotte gently patted Spider-Man's head, then stepped forward to look at the struggling Professor Kurt.

"Why capture those mutants?" he asked.

Professor Kurt, whose mouth was bleeding, scoffed, "Do you think I'd tell you?"

"No way?"

Charlotte chuckled, "Then I'll just leave you at the school and let your students see that their teacher has turned into a monster."

"Can't!"

Professor Kurt's eyes widened in horror. "No, you can't do this. They'll be disappointed in me."

"Then answer me honestly, and I can send you somewhere else where no one will know your identity."

"I"

Professor Kurt gritted his teeth and said, "Fine, I promise you."

Although I don't know how you knew my identity, I believe Spider-Man wouldn't lie to me.

“You can trust me.” Charlotte nodded.

He was a little curious: was Spider-Man really that good-natured?

He doesn't seem to have done anything particularly trustworthy.

Before he could think further, Professor Kurt said, "My body is having problems, and I need the mutated cells in their bodies to alleviate my pain."

"Ok?"

Charlotte frowned. "The lizard's mutated genes and the spider's mutated genes shouldn't overlap, right?"

Professor Kurt shook his head. "I don't know either. I just feel a strong urge to attack them when I'm in pain. My body tells me I should eat them."

Charlotte seemed thoughtful, then asked, "Why is it necessary to inject the regeneration serum? If I remember correctly, someone reminded you to be patient."

Upon hearing this, Professor Kurt's pupils contracted.

"It's Charlotte, do you know him?" he asked, his eyes gleaming.

“Of course, he’s my contact person. We’ve known each other for a long time,” Charlotte said.

Professor Kurt gave a bitter smile. "He must have told you about me, which is why you were able to guess my identity."

Charlotte nodded. "Yes, in his eyes, you are an excellent scientist, and he doesn't want anything to happen to you."

If he knew you had become like this, he would want to save you.

"No, please don't let him know I've become like this."

"That depends on your performance."

"Okay, I'll tell you everything I know."

But that night, I was attacked.

I was badly injured, and no one was willing to take me to the hospital. I was dying, and all I had was a newly completed regeneration serum.

I had no other choice, so this was the only thing I could do.

To survive, I risked everything and received a regeneration serum, which turned me into a monster, causing me excruciating pain.

Professor Kurt looked pained, but Charlotte shook her head.

"You are lying."

"I didn't, please believe me."

"Professor, if what you're saying is true, then how did you find this place?"

Charlotte looked around and said coldly, "If no one had arranged all of this, you wouldn't have been able to find this place."

Professor Kurt lowered his head. "I found this place by chance," he said stubbornly.

"Then how do you explain these devices?"

Charlotte pointed to the rudimentary laboratory, "All your funds have been used for experiments. The school's experimental equipment hasn't been reduced, and you don't have any extra money to buy more."

"Please don't ask anymore," Professor Kurt pleaded, his eyes pleading. "Please, just for the sake of Charlotte."

Seeing this, Charlotte opened her mouth, but in the end, she didn't press the matter further.

His intuition told him that Professor Kurt had become like this because of him.

"Zizi~"

Suddenly, a projection appeared in the dimly lit underground laboratory.

"Spider-Man, hello, I'm the person you're looking for."

In the image, the massive figure is shrouded in shadow, making it difficult to discern many of its physical characteristics.

All I know is that this guy is very, very fat, to an extent that is unimaginable for ordinary people.

Charlotte narrowed her eyes slightly, able to guess the other person's identity just by looking at their physique.

Kingpin, the king of the underworld!

"What are you going to say?" he asked.

“We should have a good talk,” Kingpin said, his tone flat.

Charlotte casually launched a spider web, then leaned against it, quietly listening to what the other person had to say next.

Kingpin paused for a moment, then said, "Is this what they call a sense of ritual?"

As he spoke, he slightly raised his hand, and Karen beside him offered him a cigar.

"Whoo~"

He slowly exhaled a puff of smoke. "Spider-Man, you're a threat to me. That's what those guys told me."

But I've never considered you a threat. We actually have no conflict of interest; after all, the guys you arrested are just low-level thugs to me, they don't affect me at all.

He was referring to ordinary criminals, some of whom were his men, but others might not be.

Upon hearing this, Charlotte asked, "And then?"

Kingpin took a puff of his cigar. "That's why I got involved in their operation—because they gave me so much."

But they're dead, so I have no reason to continue targeting you.

"What's the deal with Professor Kurt?"

"It was an accident. I just wanted to fund his experiment, but he refused to accept my investment."

"So you sent someone to assassinate him?"

“I just wanted to scare him.”

"But it turned him into a monster."

"I told you, this was just an accident."

Kingpin put down his cigar. "A beautiful accident. He gained power. That's a good thing."

"That's not how it is!" Professor Kurt gritted his teeth. "I don't have to become a monster."

If given a little more time, perhaps a truly regenerative serum could be produced.

Kingpin glanced at Professor Kurt. "You do my work, and I'll fund your continued research on the regenerative serum. It's a fair deal, and your only option."

Before Professor Kurt could speak, he continued, "But your first mission failed, and you're just giving me the runaround. I have no choice but to threaten you with the people around you."

"Charlotte Parker?" Charlotte said her name.

"Yes."

Kingpin laughed and said, "That kid seems a bit different. Akrese and Kurt both like him, which really surprised me."

And with you, Spider-Man, you're also Charlotte's friend, that makes it even more perfect.

"You're going to use him to threaten me?" Charlotte's eyes were strange.

Kingpin shook his head. "No, I want to make a deal with you."

"Do you think it's possible?"

"Of course it's possible."

Kingpin grinned. "The dark forces can be dealt with like a business transaction, so of course it can be between you and me."

He continued, "Actually, I don't like to use hostages to threaten my enemies, as it brings back painful memories, but I don't mind being sad myself."

"Then you may be disappointed."

Charlotte shrugged. "Actually, I'm not familiar with Charlotte. After all, he's too outstanding, which makes me feel ashamed."

Jin didn't believe such a lame lie. He continued, "The black cat stole something from me. Find her, bring the thing back, and the deal will be done."

I won't cause you any more trouble, and Professor Kurt can regain his freedom.

Hearing this, Charlotte raised an eyebrow.

"So I can't take Professor Kurt with me now?"

"Of course, he hasn't helped me complete the task I assigned him yet."

"What if I insist on taking him?"

"He won't want to go with you."

As soon as Kingpin finished speaking, Professor Kurt's face turned ugly.

"Spider-Man, I'm not leaving. There are too many things that can threaten me."

Professor Kurt's eyes dimmed. "My students, my friends, and all my experimental data—he could destroy them so easily. His power is too great."

He was so powerful that a single word from him could plunge all of New York into chaos, forcing even the council members to concede.

Charlotte fell silent.

Indeed, King isn't the most powerful villain, although in one universe Kingpin once killed Spider-Man with a single punch.

But he is definitely one of the most troublesome villains.

Countless members of his dark forces obeyed his orders.
