As he spoke, he walked over to a piece of equipment.
"But what I want to show you isn't this lab, it's this."
He pointed to a huge container-like device and said to Peter, “This is something I’ve been studying.”
"check it out."
Eddie opened the container that was emitting cold air, and a black, wriggling substance came into Peter's view inside the glass dish.
Staring at the black substance, he slowly said to Peter, "This is—our legacy!"
Peter stared at the black, worm-like material before him with a serious expression.
Even though he had already guessed what it was, he pretended not to understand.
“I don’t understand, Eddie, what is this?”
"This is a research project that our parents were working on before they died. It is the culmination of their life's work. They originally had the opportunity to conduct more in-depth research on it."
Eddie stared at the black, writhing substance and said, "Right now it's just a bunch of primordial viscous matter, but it has tremendous power."
As he spoke, he closed the container door.
"We don't know where the original source of this thing came from. I saw in my father's notes that they terminated the experiment. Perhaps they saw something uncontrollable, or perhaps they were looking for other activation methods."
Eddie's face showed worry. "So far, there is still a lot of the notes that are difficult to decipher. Those notes are either disorganized or missing pages. Maybe your dad has some relevant information."
He walked to the lab table and showed Peter the things his father had left behind.
“All my father’s things are here. I don’t know if they took some of his notes on the plane.”
Peter listened to Eddie's words and turned his gaze to the container.
That thing is a symbiote.
Although it is unknown how Richard Parker and Eddie's father discovered and studied it.
Eddie, unaware of Peter's thoughts, continued:
"It looks like some kind of protoplasmic medical soak, specifically designed to treat people with certain DNA conditions, you understand? Peter, targeting specific genes."
"Yes, it's like putting a patient in a tight-fitting garment; theoretically, it can temporarily maintain the patient's normal physiological functions."
Eddie explained the role of the symbiote to Peter, “Our fathers seem to have moved on to the second stage of their research, which enhances human qualities and some abilities, but their research ends here.”
Do you know Trask?
He suddenly asked Peter a question.
"It's the company my father used to work for, right?"
Peter vaguely remembered the company name.
"Yes, this means that the thing our father invented could very well be taken over by this company."
Eddie handed a letter to Peter.
"This is a letter left by my father."
Peter took it and quickly skimmed through the text.
“The reality is increasingly worrying us. We’ve been kicked out of the lab, and we’re getting further and further away from our experimental projects. I know Richard is blaming me for everything I’ve done, and he’s right. I made a mistake.”
"I dragged him into the deal with Trask. I joined this private company so I wouldn't have to spend all my time raising funds."
Eddie's face was filled with anger. "Just two days after my father finished writing this letter, he had an accident."
"Trask Corporation, it must have been them! They stole our father's achievements!"
Peter put down the letter and asked Eddie, "If they take all of this away, how did you manage to keep this?"
“This is what our dad kept from that company. Over the years, my grandfather has kept it, just like my dad did. My grandfather froze it and preserved it. He didn’t even know what it was.”
"He just didn't want to throw away his son's belongings."
Peter didn't speak; he looked at the machine containing the symbiotes.
This "symbiotic entity" in the universe doesn't seem to be the alien life form I knew before.
It seems that Richard Parker and Eddie's father studied it and gave it different functions.
After leaving the lab, Peter dialed Helen's number on his way home.
“I thought you’d forgotten about me! Peter, you just dumped that guy named Kahn in my hands and then ignored him. That’s not the behavior of a responsible man.”
"He's such a helpful person, shouldn't you find things much more convenient?"
Peter said it to her casually.
"Perhaps, but what I want to say is that I don't know anything about him, who knows what he might do!"
Peter stood on the street, watching the cars rushing by.
"He plays a very important role for me, so I just need to keep an eye on him."
After saying a few words to her, Peter asked, "Do you know the Trask Corporation?"
"Trask?"
Helen paused for a moment, then said, "Yes, I know. It's a company founded by Bolivar Trask. I've heard they're good at researching weapons of war. Today, Tony Stark announced that he's abandoning the weapons manufacturing division. I think they must be the happiest people here."
"Could you help me investigate this company? Especially the relationship between this company and my father?"
"Your father?"
Helen exclaimed in surprise on the other end of the phone, "Your father is still connected with them?"
"Who knows?"
Peter watched a car speeding past him. "That happened a long time ago. Hopefully, it will leave something behind."
"Miss?"
In the convenience store, someone suddenly interrupted Gwen's inexplicable thoughts and dragged her back to the cashier in reality.
"Um, what's wrong?" she asked.
Are you going to sweep that thing up or not?
Gwen looked down and realized she was still holding the jar of green beans called Delmon.
"Feel sorry."
Gwen smiled apologetically at the other person.
She looked down at her phone.
Peter hasn't sent me a message or made a phone call yet.
He was planning to send Eddie a copy of the videotape; nothing unexpected would happen.
But it's already nine o'clock, hopefully nothing unexpected will happen!
Gwen couldn't help but let her mind wander.
That's just the kind of person I am; when I think about Peter, I tend to make endless connections.
"what happened to your hand?"
The female cashier asked her, sounding very concerned.
Gwen flicked a finger—like a leaping inchworm dancing.
"This? I bumped into something just now, and I just bandaged it up haphazardly."
Gwen was a little annoyed.
Normally she has no superpowers, and after being injured, she has no self-healing ability, so she becomes just like an ordinary person.
As Gwen thought about it, she glanced at the customers behind her in line.
The two customers in the queue were a portly man wearing a parrot-patterned shirt and a young girl with unusually prominent breasts that he envied.
Okay, now I'm one of them, and there's nothing wrong with that.
She clutched the last bottle of isotope reagent in her pocket.
This is the last bottle. If I can't find a way to regain my superpowers after using this bottle of isotopes, I'll have to live as an ordinary person again.
"Ding!"
Suddenly the door was pushed open, and a thin man wearing sunglasses pushed in a bunch of wobbly shopping carts, whistling a cheerful tune as he entered.
Gwen glanced at the man pushing the cart and left the supermarket.
But as soon as she stepped out of the supermarket, she heard gunshots coming from inside.
Startled, Gwen immediately rushed into the convenience store.
At this moment, the sound of crying rose and fell throughout the convenience store; some people hid in the aisle, while others rushed out of the door.
Then, a thin man parted to make way for Gwen—it was the guy pushing the cart that Gwen had just seen.
The other person was wearing sunglasses, a black V-neck T-shirt, and khaki pants with something that looked like food or engine oil on them.
He raised his pistol, a square Glock, and then with a "bang," the bullet hit the shelf, smashing the food on it to pieces.
Immediately afterwards, another bullet hurtled past the counter like a train.
Everything on the counter was flung into the air.
Upon seeing Gwen committing the crime, he did not hesitate at all.
She immediately put on her Spider-Woman headgear and then took out the isotope.
Staring at the last bottle of reagent, she gritted her teeth and injected it into her body.
Gwen, transformed into Spider-Woman, pounced on the cashier.
Gwen grabbed her wrist and, with a swift "ding," shoved the woman into the cash register.
"Hey, here!"
Then she stood up from behind the counter.
The armed robber stared blankly at Gwen, who had appeared behind the counter without him noticing.
"Whoosh!"
