"Alright, everyone, whatever has happened between you, at least here you must maintain reverence for magic." Flitwick surveyed the classroom and shrieked, "Pick up your wands!"
As if by prior agreement, everyone distanced themselves from Nietzsche.
They looked at each other and whispered, keeping their voices audible but not clear.
Professor Flitwick stood atop a book, waving his wand, which made the messy podium from the previous class feel light and airy. Then, several heavy books were stacked high, and the book beneath his feet, along with himself, flew up into the air.
"Wingardium Leviosa (Levitation Charm)"
His voice was high-pitched, but when he chanted the incantation, it was absolutely clear and unambiguous.
After drawing everyone's attention, he continued in a friendly manner, "The Levitation Charm, this is the first spell you will learn."
The courses on Charms, Transfiguration, and Defense Against the Dark Arts are quite hands-on.
In this kind of classroom, all the wizards excitedly held their wands, straining with all their might, but the feather in front of them remained motionless. Even a sudden sway would excite the young wizards.
Unfortunately, it was just the wind blowing in through the window.
"Watch your hand gesture! Gently flick your wrist upwards while holding the wand, don't make it too deliberate!"
Nietzsche, sitting alone in a row, recalled in his mind how he felt when he first experienced a magical outburst:
He can make this thing float, not because of the size of the object, but because of whether he wants to or not.
There's no such thing as "try" or "can't"!
"Wingardium Leviosa~"
Nietzsche could clearly feel the gentle warmth from the unicorn hair; the magic was very slow. Then, the white feather in front of him broke free from the constraints of gravity and floated up slowly.
It was as if an invisible hand was supporting the feather from below...
Although his hands trembled uncontrollably, as if he had Parkinson's disease, at least he succeeded.
"Not bad levitation charm, Slytherin gets five points!" Flitwick lightly leaped and floated in front of Nietzsche, his beard trembling at the applause, his eyes narrowing into slits.
But this praise sounded very harsh to Malfoy and the others.
It's ironic that a pure-blood wizard was outshone by a Muggle wizard.
“Professor, I have a small question.” Nietzsche touched the back of his head, which felt a little cold.
"You're so eager to learn! Go ahead and ask!"
"Does a wizard make feathers defy gravity because of a spell or magic?" He always managed to find a way to answer questions from unusual angles.
"Naturally, it's because of magic. Once you learn the silent spellcasting in the ultimate wizard assessment, you'll understand. Spells are simply used to control the magic within a wizard's body, making it... docile."
Professor Flitwick paused to refine his final word choice in order to express himself more accurately.
"But the levitation spell feels more like a 'grab' to me. The magic doesn't make gravity disappear, but rather it grabs the target."
"What led you to this conclusion?" Flitwick was about to instruct the others when he heard this answer. He suddenly turned around, his eyes revealing excitement. "This...forgive my bluntness, but it concerns the essence of standard spells."
"It's just...intuition..."
Nietzsche disliked this word.
Intuition means that he has no concrete evidence, only a direct feeling.
“Explain in detail!” Flitwick tilted his head, calming himself down. “I’m sorry, I just haven’t found a breakthrough in spells for a long time. Are the ‘grab’ and ‘float’ you’re talking about not the same thing?”
"Floating... is the form of expression, but I can feel the interaction between magic and objects. Of course, I can only feel it in some 'easy' spells."
Nietzsche severed the connection to the wand, and the feather that had been floating shakily above his head fell back onto the table.
"In fact, these spells do not require the caster's emotions, so the vast majority of them are harmless... I recommend 'The Fifth Element: Exploration,' which explains the difference between white magic and black magic."
This is another point of knowledge that needs to be noted down.
Wizards' black magic and the white magic that has not yet been seen generally require the caster to have a certain degree of malice and goodwill in order for the spell to have the corresponding power.
Standard spells are different; they do not require any emotion. As long as the wizard's incantation and gestures are correct and there is a certain belief in their heart, they can be cast.
"To be honest, your perspective is... strange. Please forgive me for saying this, because wizards, including myself now, tend to view some spells as 'as long as they work,' but that doesn't mean you're wrong."
Flitwick glanced at the magic clock on the stone wall, feeling a pang of regret.
Time was limited, and he couldn't immediately pull this Slytherin aside to go to his office to discuss it, not to mention that his next class was Defense Against the Dark Arts.
At this point, the Ravenclaw headmaster would surely be able to find common ground with the Hufflepuff headmaster:
Regarding Severus Snape's incredible luck.
“What I mean is, the Levitation Charm might be useful in duels…” Nietzsche thought about the description of Dean Flitwick in the book and then said, trying to please him.
This seemingly ordinary and insignificant Felius Frivi is an absolute giant in dueling, having been a reigning champion in dueling tournaments in his youth.
"But do you want to make your opponent float? The idea is good, but unfortunately, all it takes is one Ironclad Charm to eliminate your interference."
"What if the essence of the Levitation Charm isn't simply the elimination of gravity?" Nietzsche excitedly waved his wand, making the feather somersault. "Perhaps I can control the opponent's armor charm or..."
"Then please prove the true nature of the Levitation Charm before you speak. However, for your serious thinking, Slytherin will award you five points!"
Slytherin was dumbfounded.
Originally, they were the ones isolating Nietzsche, but unexpectedly, during class, Nietzsche ended up being isolated by the professor instead.
Malfoy, unwilling to admit defeat, managed to get the feather off the table a few centimeters despite his wrists aching from twisting them. While this earned him some respect from Pansy and Blaise, he knew that such a performance wouldn't even be enough to distract the professor.
Just like Daphne in her herbalism class, where Professor Sprout could only give her a perfunctory nod.
"Hmph, he can't be all-powerful!" Pansy reassured her. "Don't worry."
"I hope so..." Malfoy gripped his wand tightly.
His magical talent, which his father and mother praised, was nothing compared to Nietzsche's.
Even the pride that comes from being born into a pure-blooded family is no match for his attitude of disregarding all unspoken rules; it's like casting pearls before swine.
Finally, after Nietzsche's humorous banter, Fritwick happily ended the conversation.
"Alright, the next class will be your Defense Against the Dark Arts class. If you can develop new paths in commonly used spells, then your wand made of unicorn hair will never be a stumbling block."
“Your professor is Quirinus Quirrell... my former student. You can ask him about the difference between spells and black magic, no problem.”
Flitwick smiled as if he were young, when he won his first dueling tournament championship.
Hmm... if he remembered correctly, that Quirrell seemed to be quite introverted during his school days, but it shouldn't matter, he had even helped him out a few times back then.
"Thank you for adding ten points to Slytherin's tally. I think Gryffindor will be just as grateful to you as we are."
As he passed Malfoy, Daphne casually reminded Nietzsche.
Her golden hair tips just touched her shoulders, and a hair clip held her hair up, gathering her bangs to the right. In Malfoy's small group, she was much prettier than Pansy.
Perhaps because she didn't have a direct conflict with Nietzsche, she considered trying to win him over...
What they think is none of my business.
“Yes, I really hope your little girlfriend can maintain the same mindset in Gryffindor,” Daphne said with a polite smile. “How long can she maintain it? It’s a pity her house isn’t Ravenclaw.”
Was she wrong?
From Slytherin's perspective, of course not.
After all, Gryffindors are people who rarely think things through and are full of hostility towards Slytherin.
“How do you think Hermione Granger would abandon her individuality to conform to the crowd?” Nietzsche said. “After all, there are always a few people who don’t care about such childish rules of the game.”
"If that's the case, I can think more highly of her..."
“Daphne, are you really that close to Parkinson?” Nietzsche turned his head and looked down at her with a mocking gaze. “Or rather… are you happy to be someone else’s lackey? How pathetic.”
The relationship between Greengrass and Perkins is similar to that between Crabbe, Gore, and Malfoy.
Daphne was thus outmaneuvered by him.
"Going against the entire Slytherin will only lead to bad consequences," Pansy suddenly shouted angrily.
But she was clearly glancing at Daphne Greengrass out of the corner of her eye, though the latter quickly suppressed her anger.
“Nietzsche, you must have come to Slytherin with some ambition, money, power... You will know what we have to offer. Don’t wait until your spine is broken to realize it.”
"It doesn't matter, darling, none of that matters!"
Nietzsche waved his hand impatiently and pushed aside Blaise, who had gotten up and deliberately blocked the way. He wished he could turn his wand into a whip and lash him out.
At Hogwarts, the Defense Against the Dark Arts class is always associated with some kind of magic.
During the first class, many people were betting on how long the new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor would last, or whether his term would be exactly one year.
Nietzsche habitually turned his head, only to find that things were not like they were in elementary school; Hermione was not sitting next to him.
"Professor! Did you just come out of the restroom?"
The speaker was a slightly chubby, robust girl. She sniffed and, as Quirrell hurriedly pushed open the door and passed by them, a pungent, strange smell almost made her vomit.
“No, Milison Burst... next time you mock the professor like that, you'll lose points.”
Quirrell, covering his high-arched headscarf, was somewhat displeased by the uproarious laughter behind him.
His face darkened, but once he stepped onto the podium and came to his senses, he immediately changed his demeanor, becoming as sensitive as a squirrel and stammering as he spoke.
“Bersdl, do you usually eat in the toilet?” Nietzsche sniffed. “It seems you enjoy eating garlic bread while sitting on the toilet... Otherwise, why would you associate garlic with a toilet?”
"I hope your new protector isn't short-lived!"
Nietzsche didn't even bother to turn his head; he simply leaned back in his chair, raised his right hand, and made a universally accepted greeting gesture.
A brief observation reveals that Professor Quirrell's robes bear floral markings, unlike the traditional wizarding robes of other professors. Perhaps he is curious about botany...
Garlic is edible, but in witchcraft and religious cultures, it represents vampires.
When Quirrell turned his head and gave Nietzsche a grateful look, the latter immediately stopped observing and gave a kind smile.
He read the list haltingly, but because some people pretended not to hear him, he had to read it several times.
“Nietzsche Holmes, haha... I just ran into Professor Flitwick when I arrived.” Quirrell was not far from him, about an arm’s length away. “By the way, Professor Sprout also mentioned you.”
