“Sorry, I’m not into your taste. In a few decades, you’ll be no different from any other old lady on the street.” Nietzsche very gentlemanly raised the newspaper and covered his face again. “Why don’t you go ask Miss Granger what’s in her bag today?”
But it's okay, he still has a bullet in his cane for emergencies.
It is said that no girl wants to be compared to an old lady by a boy, and Daphne's transformation fully proves this point.
She slammed her cup down hard, the heaving of her chest causing the chattering snakes around her to lose focus.
"So you like her type, I get it..."
Granger? Granger!
Every day, she barely exchanged half a sentence with Hermione Granger. Daphne turned her head, thinking of other topics she could use to win her over.
Wait... is this a kind of reminder?
Therefore, the mature and composed Daphne Greengrass shifted her focus to winning over others.
Hermione, who had finally gotten a good night's sleep, listened to her friends' conversation, but not about how to fight the trolls... because the Lavenders were more interested in why she and Nietzsche were together.
"That's strange, why did you have to come out of the library with him?"
Chapter 42 Don't overlook any details
"We just...we just strolled around the castle, after all, it was Halloween last night..."
"Just browsing?"
"Then...what else can we do?"
Lavender looked at the bewildered Hermione, raised her hand and rubbed her temples. She hadn't expected that such a top student would be so slow to react in certain aspects, but it didn't matter. For the sake of the homework, she and Parvati would step in!
So she turned her gaze toward Slytherin and happened to see Daphne showing off.
“What a snake demon!” Ravendra tugged at Hermione’s sleeve, pointing in that direction. “Aren’t you worried?!”
Hermione found this strange and said absentmindedly, "What's strange? They're just chatting..."
"They'll take it away. I know what those people are like. Think about it, one day Nietzsche will have a different deskmate, and then you'll just have to watch Medusa take your place and make him forget you little by little."
To be honest, Gryffindor's nickname-giving skills are truly impressive.
But if Daphne is Medusa, then what is she? Perseus?
Hermione shook her head to clear her mind. If Lavender said that, wouldn't she be Cinderella, and Nietzsche would become Andromeda...? At this thought, she quickly drank some cold water.
Just then, Harry walked over with Ron, who was looking down, and the two of them gave each other an awkward smile.
"Sorry..." Ron managed to squeeze out an apology after Harry grabbed his arm and shook him a few times.
If he hadn't acted so impulsively, Hermione might not have been in danger. Looking back, if Nietzsche hadn't been there, Hermione might not be sitting here eating breakfast right now.
Hermione simply nodded to indicate that she had heard.
She looked at the sliced sandwich on the plate and said, "You were actually wrong about what you said yesterday."
Ron was a little confused for a moment, but he knew he owed Hermione, so surprisingly he didn't refute her.
“It’s not that I don’t have friends…” Hermione picked up her backpack from the ground, hugged it to her chest, and felt a hard object through the fabric. “In fact, my friends trust me more than you think.”
For some reason, Harry suddenly noticed that Hermione had changed a bit today.
Well...it seems like they've become more decisive.
Did Ron make Hermione very angry?
Actually, no. She had known for a long time that Weasley was impulsive, but what he said yesterday reminded Hermione of some things from the past, but that was all—it wasn't enough to make her hate him to the core.
Sometimes Hermione felt that only Nietzsche could repeatedly push the boundaries of her tolerance.
After November, it started to snow occasionally. A thick, hard layer of ice formed on the surface of the lake, and frost began to appear on the stone paths outside, making it very slippery to walk on.
When Slytherin went to Herbology class, the group almost always supported each other as they walked.
"Attention, today's lesson is about the Devil's Web," Professor Sprout's voice came from inside the greenhouse. "Do not touch it, and keep it within two feet!"
After Nietzsche entered the greenhouse, he jumped around a few times to shake off the snow and ice crystals from his body.
He didn't linger, ignoring the black tentacles clinging to the shrub trellis, and went straight through Greenhouse No. 2, opening the glass door where the white flowers were cultivated. Unfortunately, he could only smell a faint fragrance.
Slytherin, deduct one point!
The professor's angry voice startled Nietzsche.
Surely not? He just opened the door. When would a good Hufflepuff professor ever lose points for something like that?
"Incendio (Blazing Fire)!"
It wasn't because of Nietzsche, of course, but because Crabbe's fat arm was entangled in a clump of black vines. Professor Sprout summoned some flames, which flew to Crabbe's side and dispelled the outstretched arms of the plants.
Although the professor reacted very quickly, some marks were still left on his arm.
"The devil's web fears light and fire; it prefers dark and cold environments... This kind of weather is its favorite," Nietzsche explained to the students watching, his hands behind his back.
On those black vines were some flowers that resembled Christmas cacti, which looked even more vibrant against the backdrop of the devil's web, and Crabbe was clearly deceived by its disguise.
“A very good explanation. Slytherin gets a point. In this weather, the greenhouse won’t let them grow too much, so I reached out from the Forbidden Forest and cut some back from Torhag… Don’t worry about the wound, Five Poisons.”
Nietzsche's timely intervention redeemed Slytherin's points.
This ability to adapt to changing circumstances and his accurate judgment impressed Daphne, who was even more certain of her choice.
After the herbalism class, Nietzsche still didn't leave with Theodore and the others. Instead, he paced back and forth in the greenhouse, as if searching for something, which inevitably caught Professor Sprout's attention.
So she finally spoke up and asked, "Did you forget something?"
“No, I just realized that fertilization isn’t necessary in winter.” Nietzsche had been waiting for her to ask, so he immediately made up a reason on the spot, “I’m also planning to get some dragon manure…after all, I’m also planning to grow some plants myself.”
An interest in plants is a great starting point.
So Sprout was unaware of anything and was simply pleased that his students enjoyed botany.
“In fact, fertilizing only once is enough. Dragon dung is very nutritious. You remind me of Quirinus, who also loves botany... so I gave him all the remaining fertilizer.”
It sounds like there's no problem at all.
Professor Quirrell must have gone to plant herbs that day, but the clues just went cold. He had no choice but to force a regretful smile and turn away.
These days continued until the start of the Hogwarts Quidditch tournament in early November.
With no progress, Nietzsche spent his days attending classes, going to the library to find information, and occasionally sending letters home to inform his family about the progress of the black wizard and what was happening at school.
The entire school seemed to have forgotten what happened on Halloween, as everyone was excited about the Quidditch match.
“Nietzsche! Here’s a letter from…from…” Hermione received the letter from Mercury during Friday’s lunch break in the Great Hall, “Downing Street…”
Ron stood up and tossed his Charms homework aside.
Outside of mealtimes, the auditorium is filled with students studying and playing chess.
In front of each of them was an empty jam jar filled with bright blue flames—lily of the valley flames that Hermione had summoned to keep them warm and provide light.
"10 Downing Street, what's going on? It's just a letter from home."
"That's all?" Hermione carefully placed the envelope in front of Nietzsche, as if afraid of making any creases. "That's the address of the British Prime Minister's residence! Let's put it this way... it's like Wizengamot here!!"
She used to watch the news with her father often.
I never expected that Nietzsche's description of the British warehouse manager would mean this.
"It was sent by Sherlock. I told him about what's been happening at school lately and wanted him to give me some advice."
Nietzsche roughly tore open the letter, and to his utter surprise, this time Shylock did not play his word games, but instead seriously stated the recent progress and offered reminders.
Needless to say, it was definitely written by Watson.
Only the last paragraph sounds like Sherlock Holmes's voice:
Don't overlook any seemingly insignificant details, and don't rush to become the next Sherlock Holmes. You are you; you are the Sherlock Holmes of the wizarding world.
“You’re right to think like a wizard.” Nietzsche understood what he meant.
Sherlock is ultimately just a detective for ordinary people, but his deductive reasoning is useless when dealing with wizards. Therefore, he is reminding Nietzsche not to fall into a trap.
Every detail, including the wizard's lifestyle, habits, and psychological characteristics...
“What are you holding, Potter! Library books can’t be borrowed!” Snape suddenly appeared behind them. “Also, magic is forbidden in the school… Gryffindor loses ten points.”
He ignored Nietzsche and simply took the Magic Quidditch book from in front of Harry.
However, Snape's right leg wound had not yet healed, and he limped and walked very slowly. After leaving the Great Hall, he looked back again, but this time he was not staring at Harry Potter, but at Hermione next to him.
As soon as he saw Potter sitting there, he wanted to find something to do, and he deliberately avoided everyone else, only scolding Harry and Ron.
What happened to his leg?
“He was probably hurt by something in the room.” Nietzsche looked at Snape’s back and had some thoughts. “I know what you’re thinking, Harry, but unfortunately, the thief couldn’t be Snape.”
Ron was furious because of the earlier targeting, and only spoke up to refute after confirming that the old bat was really far away.
“Why not?” He decided to stand up for Harry. “You can’t think of all professors as saints like Dumbledore.”
“Because the order to check the room came from Dumbledore, and he and I know everything that happened.” If Hermione had a cat’s tail, it would be sticking up on her head right now. “Besides, he’s been at this school for over a decade.”
But Harry remained convinced of his theory and did not refute it.
He simply said, "Perhaps he released the troll to deliberately cause a commotion, so that Dumbledore would send him to investigate... I know what this is called, it's called 'the darkest place under the lamp'!"
Harry never considered why Snape had been teaching at the school for so many years.
If it really was Snape, then any slip-up would undo all his previous efforts and destroy the reputation he had built up over the past decade. Moreover, he would need to have known about Dumbledore's friend's inheritance more than a decade in advance.
Nietzsche shook his head, chewing on a licorice wand.
“Snape is not a thief, because his behavior makes it impossible for any clues to point to him.”
So what's hidden underneath?
What kind of relic is it that Dumbledore is reluctant to reveal?
Yay, it's available now...
