“It can’t be an invisible beast; they’re usually very weak.” Cedric shook his head.
“It’s a Thestral.” A blonde girl suddenly appeared from behind the three of them. She grabbed Hermione’s wrist and said gently, “You touched its head. Be careful not to get pricked by its fangs.”
The girl's voice was like a dreamlike murmur, light and airy.
"Thank you..." Hermione was startled by what she said and quickly withdrew her hand.
"Can you see it?" Nietzsche asked, opening the car door.
Even after Hermione and Cedric got into the car, the blonde girl only blinked and swayed slightly, as if she were about to be blown over by the evening breeze.
She brushed her tangled hair aside with her fingers, looking quite surprised.
"You believe I'll see it?" She clasped her hands together to express her joy.
“Why not?” Nietzsche glanced at the lights in the distance and reminded him, “If you’re any later, you might miss your boat.”
The girl exclaimed "Yay!" and quickly ran and skipped back to the line behind her; she was clearly very happy.
“My name is Luna Lovegood!” She raised her right hand, flicking the beer bottle stopper tied to her wrist. “You have very few harassing flies around you, which is a good sign... I hope you never see a Thestrals in your lifetime!”
Hermione was a little angry as she watched Luna's departing figure.
“What was that last sentence, all that rambling and mystical talk?” She pulled Nietzsche up.
“If it’s a Thestral, then it is indeed a blessing,” Cedric explained to the girl. “Only those who have witnessed death and fully accept and understand it can see it.”
As he spoke, he shifted his position, leaning his body backward.
Few things associated with death are good; who would have thought that the carriages transporting students were towed by such a horrible creature?
"So, she actually went through..." Hermione felt a pang of pity.
That's how time changes things.
The freshmen who had participated in the sorting ceremony were already chatting and joking at the entrance, standing in the central courtyard looking down at the countless small points of light floating on the black lake; those were all this year's freshmen.
Draco was also among the group. When Professor McGonagall led the new students through the hall and into a small cubicle, he was still tiptoeing to peek at someone.
Nietzsche later saw Luna again at the Sorting Ceremony.
"Ravenclaw!"
The blonde girl looked like she had just woken up. She first stood on the platform and glanced at the long tables of the four colleges before running down in a daze.
"Ginny Weasley~"
Professor McGonagall, wearing small round glasses, called up a red-haired girl. She was being watched by many people and seemed very shy, keeping her head down the whole time and occasionally stealing glances at the Gryffindor table.
“That’s our sister!” George whistled.
While those people were trying to cheer Ginny up, the Slytherin members were naturally filled with worry.
Especially Draco, Nietzsche noticed him staring intently at him... But surely Malfoy wouldn't suddenly fall for a Weasley at this crucial moment?
“He was planning to make a move on Weasley’s sister on the train,” Theodore said quietly, turning his head. “The last person he could do that for was Harry Potter before the sorting ceremony in his first year.”
But Nietzsche knew this was impossible.
It's worth noting that Malfoy's current predicament is partly thanks to Arthur Weasley.
Headmaster Snape, who was in the guest of honor's seat, suddenly stood up. When he saw the empty seats for Harry Potter and Ron, he frowned, got up and walked out of the Great Hall. He didn't return until after the Sorting Ceremony.
A chilling smile played on his lips as he leaned down and whispered something in the ears of several professors.
Immediately afterward, Professor McGonagall's expression changed. She threw the Sorting Hat, which she had just finished working on, onto the chair and left without looking back.
“Potter really knows how to get famous... At least six Muggles saw a car flying in the sky,” Draco said grumbling. “Anyway, he won’t get fired, will he, hmph.”
He buried his head, feeling angry and helpless whenever he thought about the changes in his family.
From the time the Malfoy family established themselves in England to now, he can't believe that the family has fallen apart under his watch...
Why should Harry Potter be treated leniently for breaking school rules? Why should those fathers let those Muggles confiscate their family territories?
Even their only estate was barely kept because his father gave Muggles a lot of gold and jewels, supposedly to pay some kind of 'tax'. Thinking of this, Draco had no appetite at all.
Gryffindors weren't in a good mood either, especially Hermione—she stared silently at the hourglass on the wall.
Everyone guessed why the headmaster and professors could skip the welcome dinner: Harry and Ron weren't there, and the Evening Prophet had news about flying cars.
The result seems quite obvious.
"Quiet down, everyone!" Suddenly, someone stood up in the main seat and said loudly, "Ladies and gentlemen, I am this year's Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor—Gilderoy Lockhart!"
"I am but an honorary member of the Defense Against the Dark Arts Alliance..."
Lockhart, with his golden, wavy sideburns and pearly white teeth, gave a perfectly measured and comforting smile, seemingly deliberately steer the conversation toward himself.
It seems Quirrell's description of him is accurate: he desperately wants everyone's attention to be on him.
Professor Flitwick covered his face, made up a random excuse, and turned to leave the auditorium. He was afraid that if he stayed another second, he would be driven to his death by anger.
Lockhart was disappointed, because neither the Gryffindor nor Slytherin members paid him much attention.
“That’s so cool…” Neville said admiringly. “I’ve always wanted to look down from the sky, but unfortunately… unfortunately I can’t even control a flying broom.”
“They were seen by Muggles.” Percy was anything but happy.
But no one paid any attention to him.
“Damn it, why didn’t Ronnie call us back sooner?” George and Fred looked regretful, sandwiching their sister in the middle. “We were the ones who drove Harry to our house to stay.”
“But they broke the law! Do you understand... this will implicate our father!” Percy poured cold water on the idea once again.
The conversation in Gryffindor revolved around Harry and Ron; aside from the witches, no one wanted to see Lockhart's charming smile... especially the Weasleys, who couldn't stand the books.
Each book costs three Galleons, why doesn't he just rob it?
The situation was even worse in Slytherin; the girls there almost completely ignored Lockhart's self-introduction.
"Although the Ministry of Magic forbids wizards from modifying Muggle items, believe me... flying cars are just the beginning." A large crowd had gathered around Nietzsche, all listening intently as he described the future.
When they heard that the technology of flying brooms would be applied to Muggle 'new carriages', everyone was so excited that they pounded their fists on the table.
Aside from Quidditch, which requires flying brooms, who would want to ride a broom around everywhere for no reason?
“Ah, Harry Potter’s experiences remind me of my fourth year,” Lockhart cleared his throat. “Back then, I rode my Spellhorse, risking everything to slip under the Willow’s whip…”
Nobody knows if what he said is true.
But Lockhart's excellent storytelling ability quickly caught the attention of the front-row wizards.
Nietzsche discovered that he was very good at judging the situation—once he discovered what the current hot topic was, he could immediately grasp the core of it and use things that were neither true nor false to attract attention.
This reminded him of The Daily Prophet... It's a shame he didn't become an unscrupulous author.
"The whip that was hitting Liu was only 0.1 inches from my face, and I turned around..."
“I can testify to that; Professor Lockhart’s mind was impaired because of that Whomping Willow incident,” Snape said coldly as he suddenly appeared at the Great Hall door.
The Slytherin Headmaster was known for his silent walking.
“Severus…you’re joking. The Willow didn’t hit me back then,” Lockhart chuckled.
“In that case, let’s have the agile Professor Lockhart demonstrate to Potter and Weasley how to properly dodge the Whomping Willow,” Snape said, giving him a glare and a forced smile.
Just as Lockhart was about to say something more, he saw Dumbledore walking in and staring at him, so he swallowed the rest of his words.
Dumbledore rubbed his temples; just looking at him gave him a headache...
Isn't Lockhart a level 3 Merlin badge holder? Doesn't he have a wealth of experience? Why does he seem so unreliable, like a vaudeville star from The Witcher Weekly?
He wouldn't have been so keen on hiring Gilderoy Lockhart, whose reputation wasn't exactly stellar, if it weren't for protecting Quirinas Quiró.
"Alright, Mr. Potter and Mr. Weasley hit the Whomping Willow while driving their magical car on their way to school, but fortunately, they are both unharmed. I hope you will not follow suit."
Headmaster Dumbledore's seriousness was only for the safety of the students.
Professor McGonagall was the same; although she was very strict, she rarely got angry... She was angry because Harry and Ron didn't value their lives at all, and the two kids actually secretly drove a car!
If it weren't for the Muggle's car being sturdy enough, the two of them would probably have been strangled to death by the Willow.
No, she's too angry. She needs to see the obedient Hermione Granger to calm herself down...
"So, can't you little wizards just behave yourselves?!" Mrs. Pomfrey in the school infirmary was quite annoyed. "I'm the only one in the whole school who arrives a day early!!"
"Ouch, ouch, ouch... be gentle..." Ron screamed in pain.
This is the start of the new term at Hogwarts, and someone always has to go to the infirmary on the first night.
It's probably a kind of tradition.
Chapter 86 Nietzsche quietly appreciates his performance
When asked about the 'flying car', Hermione simply brushed it off with a blank expression when confronted by classmates and friends.
She just wanted to eat her dinner quietly and have a peaceful night, so she had no intention of joining the conversation. Through the gaps in the crowd, she caught a glimpse of the Slytherins gathered together.
"Do I look like one of those alchemists?" she said casually. "Why don't you ask Nietzsche? He seems to know more... But let's get back to our previous topic."
What were they saying just now?
Oh, right, it's about the experiences Gilderoy Lockhart described in the book.
"Actually, that story about werewolves..."
This disappointed Hermione—Lavender, Neville, and the other wizards pursed their lips, hesitated for a moment, and finally got up and walked towards the Slytherin table...
Who cares about Gilderoy anymore? Although he is indeed handsome, he's not as handsome as breaking school rules.
That's right, Snape wasn't mistaken. The first-year Gryffindors were still too young to understand, but the old lions had already ignored the main seating area and walked over to the Slytherin side!
"Believe me, the process of making a magic car isn't as... difficult as you think. Wizards can make a broom fly, so what's an ordinary car?" Nietzsche's voice captivated them.
In Nietzsche's view, the flying broomstick is sufficient as a Quidditch prop, serving as a commemorative symbol of wizarding history.
A flying car is nothing special, but what if you add the Seamless Stretch Charm to it?
“You really do look exactly like the Daily Prophet,” Theodore quipped. “The most Muggle wizard, the assassin of the Muggle prime minister…”
He gave a long list of titles.
Some of these descriptions are frivolous portrayals of Nietzsche, while others are products of conspiracy theories.
