Nietzsche and Hermione quickly became engrossed in Dumbledore's story—legend has it that the founder of Slytherin had a room that only the Slytherin successor could open before leaving the school.
But no one knows where it is hidden, nor how to activate it. Perhaps it requires a certain level of strength? Or perhaps it is related to bloodline.
“You should know that the secrets hidden in this school have never been fully uncovered by any headmaster,” Dumbledore said calmly.
Hermione, however, noticed that Nietzsche seemed preoccupied.
In fact, Nietzsche wasn't worried about whether the murderer would launch a series of attacks, but rather about the political climate in Slytherin. After all, there was a parallax between Draco and those half-blood, Muggle wizards.
He knew Draco wouldn't let this opportunity pass, because the other side would definitely spread terrifying rumors to curb the development of most non-pure-blood wizards.
"I understand, I'll find out..."
“No! Not this time.” Dumbledore rejected his suggestion. “If the Chamber of Secrets is ever opened again, I don’t want you to become the next Myrtle. Hogwarts doesn’t need student ghosts.”
“I insist on this.” Nietzsche lost his appetite for tea; he irritably put his hands in his pockets and fiddled with the photograph.
He turned his gaze to Hermione, but this time, the girl, like Dumbledore, simply shook her head slightly.
“This isn’t something we can interfere with,” Hermione coaxed. “We’ve done enough; the rest is up to the headmaster and professors…”
“But what about them? I can’t just stand by and watch Slytherin succumb to fear.” Nietzsche’s voice was strong and resolute, filled with anger and determination. “Unless Salazar was a born dark wizard from the very beginning!”
After saying that, he strode away from the principal's office.
What Slytherin's successor?
He, Nietzsche John Holmes, would never allow a fabricated thing to stop Slytherin's transformation.
Chapter Ninety-Eight: The Eclipse
Just as Nietzsche predicted, after a few days of brewing, some rumors began to circulate in Slytherin:
Those whose bloodline is impure are the enemies of the Slytherin successors.
However, on the issue of the 'successor', two opposing viewpoints emerged—the Hufflepuff and Gryffindors believed it was Harry Potter, while the pro-pure-blood faction of Slytherin believed it must be someone from their side.
"Potter spends all his time hanging out with that bunch of freaks, and he's supposed to be the heir to Slytherin? Besides... he's a Gryffindor!"
"If I were Salazar Slytherin, I might have thrown these ungrateful wizards out too."
Malfoy became much more arrogant than usual.
But he didn't come forward to refute those comments; after all, it would be embarrassing to see Harry Potter look foolish.
Nietzsche looked at the imposing Slytherin members and felt somewhat annoyed. They seemed to genuinely believe Draco's story, thinking that the Chamber of Secrets had been opened because of wizards of impure blood.
Therefore, Hermione rarely saw him anymore, only occasionally spotting him standing in the third-floor corridor, chatting with Filch who was scrubbing the walls with 'Miracle Stain Remover'.
“Mr. Holmes, I…I…I was mopping the floor that night.” His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked like he hadn’t had a good night’s sleep. “Mrs. Cloris usually doesn’t leave my side.”
Filch may be a Squib, but he's not bad-witted.
The fact that he was able to discuss things with the professor and the principal that day was enough to show how important he and Granger were. In addition, they had no conflicts with each other and their attitude was completely different from how they treated others.
Besides, Nietzsche was the first to show concern for him... at least, Filch considered such an inquiry as 'concern'.
"Then why would Mrs. Lorris leave on ordinary days?" Nietzsche persisted, getting stuck on the question.
"Usually...usually during night patrols, they find students loitering at night. You mean...Mrs. Lorris was the first to discover the murderer?"
“That’s possible. Maybe someone wanted to attack you, after all, you’re a… Squib,” Nietzsche analyzed. “But luckily, your cat noticed that there were other people around at the Halloween dinner that day.”
Upon hearing this, Filch collapsed to the ground, completely oblivious to the water stains sliding down the wall.
The writing didn't disappear because of the detergent, but Filch had completely lost his focus. Instead, he grabbed his cheeks with both hands and pulled them outwards, looking frantic and furious.
That's right... the murderer who opened the locked room wasn't after the cat at all, but after him.
“Holmes, if I were you, I wouldn’t choose a Squib as an accomplice in a crisis,” Draco’s nauseating voice echoed down the corridor. “Because he’ll only hold us back!”
Before Nietzsche could react, Felch picked up the broom and got up from the ground.
"You little brat, you'll pay for this!" He ran frantically toward Draco, waving his broomstick.
“I haven’t broken any school rules!” Draco said, taking a few steps back and trying to appear calm.
“No! You’re talking too loudly… No loud noises allowed in the hallway!” Filch grabbed his collar and yelled, “I’m the castle caretaker here, and I’m going to tell the headmaster… that you insulted the faculty!”
He's gone mad, Filch has completely gone mad.
Draco only uttered a few harsh words before running upstairs to avoid being hit with a broomstick.
Just then, the school bell rang, and Filch could only watch helplessly as Draco sneaked into the History of Magic classroom, making him furious and jumping up and down at the door.
The History of Magic is widely considered the most tedious subject at Hogwarts, but it was passable for Nietzsche. Today, everything was as usual in class, except that every few seats you could see someone holding a copy of "Hogwarts: A History of the School".
Clearly, it became a hot commodity during this period.
"Today, we'll learn about the International Wizarding Conference of 1289..." Professor Binns read the text aloud in a dry, monotonous voice.
But recent events have made it clear that this lesson on the history of magic will not be silent.
“Professor!” Theodore raised his hand.
"Don't ask about the 'Chamber of Secrets'!" Binns said impatiently, as if he had anticipated their actions. "I already told Gryffindor this story in the last class, a ridiculous one."
Draco was quite pleased with himself as he watched Theodore reluctantly withdraw his hand.
He quickly retorted sarcastically, "Aren't you guys very familiar with Gryffindor? Why don't you go ask them?"
The pro-pure-blood faction launched a blitzkrieg against the non-pure-blood faction. Faced with the constant barrage of voices, the non-pure-blood faction could only remain silent. They had never so desperately hoped that Professor Binns would step forward to maintain order in the classroom.
However, Professor Ghost just kept a long face and continued talking about his International Wizarding Conference.
"See the writing on the wall? The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. You Slytherin traitors will be thoroughly cleaned up by the Heirs," Blaise Sabine said arrogantly.
"This is Slytherin. Shouldn't you traitors be the ones getting out?"
The half-blood wizards, led by Theodore Nott, were forced into retreat under such a fierce attack.
"The Chamber of Secrets of Salazar Slytherin will unleash a monster that will cleanse you who are unworthy to learn magic!" Draco's words left those people angry but speechless.
Finally, Nietzsche could no longer bear it. He could not watch his hard work begin to decline because of some rumors, so he stood up without being told.
This surprised Bins, and he looked away from the rigid text.
“Mr. Holmes, I know about what’s been happening lately, but it’s class time now…”
“No, Professor, I want to hear about Salazar Slytherin.” He raised his head slightly, looking down at Draco in his seat. “I don’t believe a founder could be so despicable.”
“Salazar was forced out by the other founders because of this! But I think he did the right thing, Muggle-born wizards are just unreliable…” Draco said in a low voice.
With Nietzsche stepping forward, the atmosphere in the classroom became tense once again.
Professor Binns sighed, trembling as he removed his glasses, and looked at the usually quiet student with his cloudy eyes... He's very smart, isn't he?
Because he simply wanted to learn about the founders of Slytherin, not to hear those fantastical stories.
“Salazar Slytherin…I really miss him. I remember how excitedly he invited me.” Binns’ voice was as slow as a tractor. “People have so many misconceptions about him, really…”
At this point, the professor did something that surprised many students—he closed the book.
"So the rift between Salazar Slytherin and the other founders was due to problems with magical education?" Nietzsche said.
“That’s how it’s written in reliable historical records…” Bins hesitated for a moment, but still said it.
His words seemed to be an acknowledgment of Draco's authority, which greatly dampened the morale of the non-pure-blood faction.
Since that's how the founders of Slytherin were, their current actions do indeed contradict the founders' original intentions, leading a small number of people to begin to doubt their own 'stance':
Were they really trying to make Slytherin better?
“Historical materials are written by people, and we can’t know whether they contain the author’s subjective ideas.” Nietzsche leaned on the table and said, word by word, “Professor, you are the one… who is still alive.”
Professor Binns shuddered; he was somewhat stunned as Nietzsche stared at him with his grey-blue eyes.
Is he still alive?
Isn't he just a ghost that isn't quite dead yet?
“Salazar Slytherin personally invited you to be a professor of the history of magic, which shows that you have a good relationship with him, that he trusts you and admires you!” Nietzsche’s voice was not loud, but it still made him dizzy.
Countless rumors and gossip transformed Slytherin into a villain obsessed with bloodlines.
However, the Sorting Hat never stated that Slytherin did not accept half-bloods or Muggle wizards, which made him completely different from the 'madman' in the world's impression.
“You’re a history professor; only you experienced that era…so tell me about it.” Nietzsche handed over the choice.
Bins glanced around the classroom and looked at the students below, suddenly feeling a sense of unfamiliarity.
It's been so many years since I've looked up and really looked at these students.
Hundreds of years? Thousands of years?
“In those days, people were afraid of magic, so wizards suffered a lot of persecution. Although Salazar hated those Muggles, he was very tolerant of Muggle wizards and never objected to them coming to study.”
"Regarding the cracks in magical education... that's not really the case, at least that's not what I heard Salazar say..."
Bins paused for a moment, as if Nietzsche's words had transported him back to the era when he still possessed a physical body.
How witty and popular he was with Salazar and the students back then!
"Actually, he believed that wizards couldn't just keep hiding like this. For Muggles... he actually had some ideas that were beyond the ordinary, such as establishing a new regime. But this would inevitably lead to war, which would also be painful for Muggle wizards."
"But Salazar did not force Muggle wizards to make a choice; he was just picky among the students in his own house, so those wizards without ambition and ideals were left to the other founders."
"But Godric wasn't stupid either, and he quickly saw through Salazar's idea, so the two started arguing."
This is quite normal. After all, in an era when Muggles and wizards were at odds, Slytherin wouldn't easily let a wizard without ambition follow them around to learn.
The wizards knew nothing about this and could only speculate about the reason for Slytherin's departure.
Professor Binns' story unfolds before everyone, and in this massive, complete Salazar Slytherin biography, Draco's blitzkrieg seems to have failed.
Nietzsche then launched a counterattack without hesitation.
"So Slytherin never had the idea of cleaning up the school?" Nietzsche said, squinting.
“Of course not! Such rumors are an insult to Hogwarts!” Professor Binns pounded the podium, puffing out his beard and glaring. “He founded Hogwarts for the students.”
