"Screech—!" The tires drifted sideways on the slippery snow, leaving a long trail before finally coming to a stop.
Stella rolled down the car window a crack, rubbed her hands, which were red from the cold, and glanced at the tall figure trudging through the snow ahead.
"A strange fellow, is he here to visit relatives and friends..." she muttered to herself.
The figure was wearing a long trench coat that looked hardly warm, a denim bag slung over his shoulder, and a draped, gray, one-piece fur cloak over his shoulders. His dark face under the hood was covered in ice and snow, and his beard and eyebrows were all white.
Hiking in a place like this during snowy weather can be deadly!
Vigilance and compassion swirled on either side of the scale, but after much deliberation, pity ultimately prevailed.
"Hey! Where are you going? If it's on my way, I might be able to give you a ride!"
The figure turned its head, its thick lips parted to reveal neat white teeth.
“Kind-hearted little girl, I’m a Black man…” he joked, then added, “Haha, though my bloodline isn’t exactly pure.”
A red cell phone was waved, and the blonde young woman tilted her head. "I'm not some brainless, overly compassionate fool. I've already contacted my boyfriend about the situation here. Let me make it clear, he's the local sheriff!"
Stella said, half-jokingly and half-seriously, "The long night is coming. Ferries and airports will stop operating. If criminals want to escape, they'll have to jump into the Arctic Ocean and do an extreme winter swim to find Santa Claus."
He could sense the underlying warning in the woman's words, but the tall Black man just laughed heartily, shook off the snow, and got into the car with an open and honest expression.
"Where to? Paris, Prince Town, or Barrow Town? There are only these three settlements around here."
The mysterious traveler pondered for a moment, then wiped the frost off his eyebrows.
"To be honest, I'm not sure, I'll just wander around."
Stella paused for a moment, then her tone softened: "Hmm... then come with me to Barrow Town. The shelter there hasn't been used since it was built, and the bedding is still new."
The mysterious traveler, who mistook the homeless man for a homeless person, made no attempt to clarify. Despite his youthful appearance, he was actually quite worldly and understood the value of a stranger's kindness, so he sincerely expressed his gratitude.
"Merciful lady, may the spirits of heaven protect you and keep you away from all evil..."
As he offered his somewhat odd blessing, he squinted and glanced at the bleak wind and snow outside the car window.
A gaze as sharp as a knife!
Chapter 210 The Lurking Blood Slave, the Ritual Begins 1
The route was one they had traveled countless times. Even with the wind and snow swirling around them, they slowed down repeatedly for safety reasons. Two hours later, the car still steadily approached the steel bridge connecting Barrow Island to the outside world.
"It's 8:30. The restaurant is probably out of food. I guess I'll have to eat frozen pizza again..." Stella glanced at her watch, rubbed her rumbling stomach, and regretted not having eaten something at the airport first.
Ok?
A blinding red light flashed ahead, and she slammed on the brakes. The Chevrolet slid more than ten meters across the icy road before finally coming to a stop just before hitting a warning sign.
Looking at the large, seemingly frozen words "Closed due to malfunction, no passage" on the sign and the silently flashing warning lights beside it, Stella frowned, cupped her hands into a megaphone, and shouted towards the work hut at the bridgehead.
"Hey! Old Hunter, what's going on? Why is the bridge closed?"
A young man wrapped in a bulky black down jacket poked his head out, staring at the newcomer with a gloomy look in his triangular eyes.
"Several steel frames have cracked due to the low temperature. I called the repair department, and they said it would take at least a week before they could send someone. You should go stay in a neighboring town temporarily."
Stella slapped her forehead, exclaiming incredulously, "How is this possible? It's only mid-October, not even the coldest time yet, old Henry..."
She was speaking when she suddenly realized something. "Mr. Hunter, right? I almost forgot. You've been filling in for your uncle for a month now. Has he recovered?"
The woman rubbed her hands together somewhat embarrassedly. "Could I go first? I can unload my luggage and carry it across the bridge in batches to lighten the load."
"Sorry, that's against the rules!" The young man coldly refused to make an exception.
Stella pushed open the car door, bent down and walked a few steps through the heavy snow. Looking at the narrow strait, she stamped her foot impatiently. The cold wind whipped open her clothes, revealing her plump, long legs.
Gazing at the young woman's youthful and charming face, and her energetic waist and legs, a pair of eyes behind her flashed with a wicked light.
Just as she was about to call her boyfriend and ask him to use his position as a sheriff to put in a good word for her, the young man suddenly approached slowly with his hands in his pockets.
"Perhaps you don't need to stay anywhere else... My bed is warm and spacious enough."
Stella looked up in astonishment, only to be met with the man's lewd expression and the dark muzzle of a gun.
"Are you... are you crazy? My boyfriend is a sheriff, and your uncle is our friend!"
The woman, her face pale with fright, hastily retreated, struggling to find the words to dissuade the other party from committing a crime.
"Hahaha!"
But the only response she received was the man's wild laughter.
“After tonight, I can leave. My master has promised to grant me eternal life. How can the laws of the short-lived race possibly apply to the eternal nobles?” He stuck out his scarlet tongue and licked his chapped lips, his eyes burning with a flame called greed.
"As for that poor old bastard, once we're done having our 'fun,' I'll send you to the bottom of the sea to meet him!"
The man held a gun in one hand, and his large hand reached out impatiently, grabbing at the woman's high breasts.
"After spending a whole month in this godforsaken place, pretending to be someone I'm not, I'm finally getting some compensation before I leave!"
Even though she didn't immediately understand the cause and effect, Stella could tell that the other party had a vicious intention to rape and kill her. Her muscles tensed and trembled as she prayed desperately.
"Heavenly Father, all spirits of the earth, I beg you to save me..."
As if guided by some unseen force, Stella truly heard her call. Just as the man's filthy hand was about to touch her clothes, Stella's eyes suddenly caught a glimpse of a crystalline, cold light!
"Whoosh-!"
The light slanted and disappeared into the ground in the distance. After a half-second delay, a sharp sound of air being torn apart rang out, along with a man's pig-like screams!
He gripped his right elbow with his left hand in terror, trying to stop the gushing blood. The hand that had been holding the gun, along with half of his forearm, had vanished, leaving only jagged tendons and bone fragments exposed to the air.
Stella turned and ran, trembling. Although she didn't understand what was going on, getting away was always the best thing to do.
"Blood...give me blood!"
Suddenly, the man let out a shrill howl, his triangular eyes turned completely red, his body suddenly swelled up, and he lunged at the woman with his five fingers spread wide.
Now suffering an unknown and devastating blow, he had put his lust aside and desperately needed fresh flesh and blood to heal his wounds.
"Whoosh whoosh!"
Three more crystalline streaks of light flashed past, piercing through the vicious man's left arm and legs with lightning speed, knocking him down and pinning him to the ground.
This time, Stella finally saw the true face of her "savior".
They were three rough, foot-long icicles, their bumpy surfaces still bearing human handprints, as if they had just been shaped.
"A degenerate who willingly becomes a slave... It seems I haven't come to the wrong place!" A firm and resolute voice came from behind.
She turned around, dumbfounded, and saw the mysterious traveler standing beside the car, smoothing the snow on the hood and kneading it until another icicle gradually formed.
"I know you have a secret blood pact, so for the next question, you just need to nod or shake your head, understand?"
Having fought bloodthirsty monsters in the darkness his entire life, and knowing their methods inside and out, the tall black man walked up to the man still struggling on the ground, pointed a sharp icicle at his eyes, and began to interrogate him skillfully.
"Were you sent here by your family in advance to carry out a mission?"
"Is your mission to deliberately block the roads leading out of Barrow Town?"
"Can you leave after tonight?"
Through three roundabout questions, the mysterious black man subtly obtained the answer he wanted. Then, ignoring the man's pleas, he casually sent out an ice shard that shimmered with milky white light, piercing through the man's brain like a steel rod!
Under Stella's horrified gaze, the man's body shattered into pieces, carbonizing into a large mass of human-shaped ashes like burnt-out firewood.
She covered her mouth tightly with both hands, forcing out a low, groaning sound through her teeth:
"Then... what is he?"
"Degenerate maggots who sell their souls for a longer life, servants who receive a little power from vampires, also known as the Hag Clan," the tall black man said calmly.
Stella was stunned when the figure from urban legend suddenly appeared before her. Her mind went blank, and as she stammered to ask a few more questions, her body jolted, and she collapsed onto the snow.
Her heart pounded, and she turned to look towards the town of Barrow on the other side of the bridge, where an unusual pressure was emanating from.
"Quick! Kid, take this, drive as far as you can!" The mysterious black man tossed a glint of silver light into Stella's arms, his eyes wide with fury as he stared at the distant sky.
There, streaks of crimson light, barely visible to the naked eye, shot into the sky, swirling and intertwining to form an enormous, blood-red dome that merged with the dark night sky. The town lights, which had been faintly visible, vanished instantly, as if some invisible force had separated them from the world.
The night seemed calm, but the evil magic hidden beneath was like a vast and turbulent undercurrent in the deep sea, making even this legendary witcher secretly tremble with fear.
"The Eternal Night Ascension Ceremony started so quickly..."
Eric, with a serious expression, unpacked his long backpack, drew his signature weapon, twirled it in a silver arc, and spat viciously.
"Damn beast!"
Chapter 211 The Lurking Blood Slave, the Ritual Begins 2
"Sir... what happened in town...?"
Stella held a small cross surrounded by silver runes in both hands. The faint warmth emanating from it dispelled the inexplicable pressure coming from afar. She gripped the object thrown to her by her savior and asked blankly.
Even with her mortal eyes, she instinctively sensed that something terrible had happened in the town.
Ibn!
Thinking of her lover who was still on duty at the police station, she was startled and frantically pressed the buttons on her phone, but all she heard was a chilling silence.
Overwhelmed by her longing, Stella struggled to her feet and prepared to run across the iron bridge.
However, an invisible force field immediately descended, freezing him in place.
Eric looked at the woman anxiously calling out her lover's name, raised his hand slightly to loosen his grip, and said solemnly.
"Child, get out of there immediately! It's extremely dangerous there!"
He took a deep breath, tried his best to force a gentle smile, and made a serious promise.
"His name is Ibn, and he's the sheriff of Barrow, isn't he? Kind-hearted child, good people in this world deserve good fortune!"
I—[Blade] Eric—promise to bring him back to you alive!
He pointed his long sword at the path they had come from and said in a deep voice, "But now, please be rational, leave immediately, and leave this to the professionals!"
As he spoke, his imposing aura surged forth, and the cold wind and snow within a ten-meter radius instantly reversed, forming a transparent circle.
Having demonstrated his skills, Eric used his telekinetic field to half-force Stella into the car, handed her a black leather document, and instructed her to go to a nearby town to contact the authorities.
As the tearful woman started her car and drove away, glancing back repeatedly with reluctance, Eric turned around, his face now icy cold.
His words were mostly just words of comfort; he wasn't entirely confident that he could successfully stop the ritual.
