Is this the world of card dealers? Yada thieves!
Author: Gray Otaku
Summary:
"Lin Jun opened and closed his eyes, and when he woke up, he found that his room had undergone countless changes..."
No, it wasn't just his room; the whole world had changed!
In the early morning, the old man by the roadside no longer practices his slow Tai Chi, but instead stands in front of the dueling platform, beaming with energy, and shouts in a powerful voice, "My turn!"
The topics of conversation among students on campus have shifted to "who opened a rare card" and "a new batch of card packs arrived at the gate."
The location has been renamed "Domino City," and the most famous company in the area is called "Kaiba Corporation"... This is the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!
Even Lin Jun himself inexplicably changed his name to "Kobayashi Hayato," and his hairstyle became that of someone who knew how to play cards.
In his bewildered state, a voice reached Hayato's ears—
"Beep beep, you king—your starting card pack has arrived!"
A preface to Chapter 1 is unnecessary.
"Ring ring~"
Ring ring~
In the hazy light, a noisy alarm clock rang out, as if right next to Lin Jun's ear.
"Hayato, wake up!"
A woman's voice came from inside.
"Ring ring~"
The alarm clock continued to ring.
Unable to sleep due to the noise, Lin Jun opened his eyes. Blocking the sunlight streaming into the room from the window with one hand, he lay on the bed staring at the ceiling: "An unfamiliar ceiling. Ah, isn't this line a bit too old-fashioned?"
Sitting up in bed, Lin Jun, with dead fish eyes, looked around at his surroundings—a pink quilt that could be described as "cute" was covering him, and the "Windows" logo on the computer screen directly in front of the bed was perpetually floating.
Reaching out from under the covers to turn off the incessantly ringing alarm clock on the bedside table, Lin Jun could vouch for his younger brother that this was absolutely, absolutely, absolutely not his room.
First of all, I must have fallen asleep in 2021. Not to mention that the computer system I was using had already been updated to Win10, even the Win7 system was nearing obsolescence, not to mention the classic but outdated XP system.
Secondly, I'm a guy. While I can accept, and even quite like, pink in certain situations, like when eating strawberry ice cream or watching Kamen Rider (Decade: That's magenta!), I would never choose a pink blanket for my bed. That's just too girly—
It seems alright? Tilting his head and looking at the blanket, Lin Jun instantly changed his mind.
But to say this is a girl's room seems a bit off? The large cabinet in the corner is filled with densely packed figurines and toy models, which can be interpreted as the room's owner being an otaku who is very passionate about this kind of thing. However, the posters covering the walls are full of all kinds of realistic-style strange-looking monsters.
The minotaur wielding an axe, the knight with a sword, and the merman with a spear could be mistaken for characters from a popular fantasy work, but—
Its deformed green body is covered with black triangles, and three necks connect to its torso, each topped with a mask-like head.
The dinosaur with chicken claws had a long, electric horn at the nose position, but there was a crack at the back of its head and neck, which was full of sharp teeth, making it another mouth.
There were even bizarre posters featuring images such as mammoth skeletons just unearthed from the ground, strange creatures covered in long black fur, and lions wearing cloaks.
Looking at the posters on the wall, Lin Jun couldn't help but sigh, "Although I don't know who brought me here, the hobbies of the guys living here are a bit too wild. Look at this! There's even a tentacle monster. RBQ, RBQ."
Just then, the voice that Lin Jun had vaguely heard before came again: "Hayato, aren't you up yet? You're going to be late~"
The tightly closed door was opened, and the owner of the voice walked into the room. Lin Jun turned his head to look.
Wearing a light purple apron around her waist and carrying a bamboo basket full of clothes, the beautiful woman looked at Lin Jun standing in front of the bed with a gentle smile: "What is it, you child? I've been calling you for ages and you didn't answer. I thought you were oversleeping."
"Hayato, are you calling me?" Lin Jun asked uncertainly. One thing was certain: before today, Lin Jun had never seen this woman before. It wasn't that Lin Jun had some kind of absolute memory that allowed him to remember 103,000 erotic novels; it was simply because the woman's appearance was exceptionally outstanding.
The words "rosy lips and fair face," "bright eyes and white teeth," and "delicate eyebrows" seemed to have been designed specifically for the woman before him. Although her figure was rather flat, with little curves, Lin Jun was certain that if he had seen her before, he would never forget her, based solely on her face and the gentle, refined, and elegant demeanor she exuded.
"Honestly, you're such a naughty child. Are you kidding me?" The woman smiled gently and grabbed the doorknob. "Alright, alright, hurry up and change your clothes and come downstairs for breakfast. I'm not watching you anymore; I still have to do laundry."
As she closed the door, the woman added, "Hurry up, or I'll finish your breakfast, hehe~" She then winked playfully at Lin Jun before closing the door.
Lin Jun silently lowered his head and looked at his hands.
While talking to the woman, Lin Jun noticed something—wasn't she a little too short? But Lin Jun quickly realized that it wasn't that she was too short, but that he was too tall. He was even taller than the door frame, about 1.95 meters tall. So, he could actually grow taller after transmigrating!
Another thing was that Lin Jun did remember not having seen the woman before, yet the woman seemed to know him and even acted as if he were an elder. Lin Jun considered a possibility—his appearance probably hadn't changed much.
Looking down at his hands, Lin Jun confirmed it—damn, this isn't my body!
As he stroked his slender arms, Lin Jun clearly remembered that his left elbow had been burned and left a scar. But now the scar had disappeared without a trace, and even his skin, which was originally a little rough and covered with hair, had become incredibly smooth.
It's almost like a woman—
Thinking of a terrifying possibility, Lin Jun suddenly pulled down his pajama bottoms, leaned against the window, and looked down by the sunlight. He breathed a sigh of relief—thankfully, Lin Jun's brother was still alive and had not disappeared because of the oath Lin Jun had made earlier.
"So what's going on? Did I time travel or something?" Taking out a set of clothes from the closet, Lin Jun took off his pajamas and sweatpants, thinking to himself, "Seriously, such a big closet is crammed full of clothes, but they're all exactly the same style. Isn't 'me' a bit too... weird?"
A shoulder bag sat on the computer desk, and a blue jacket hung on the computer chair. After thinking for a moment, Lin Jun first put the computer, which had its screensaver on, into sleep mode, then picked up the jacket, slung it over his shoulder, and carried the shoulder bag by its handle as he walked out of the room.
As Lin Jun stepped out of the room, he glanced again at the posters on the wall that he hadn't finished looking at before. He noticed that several of the "monsters" looked quite familiar, such as a black-robed mage holding an emerald green staff, a black dragon breathing flames, and a white dragon that seemed to be the embodiment of light.
Lin Jun wanted to find more information and clues, but considering the woman's instructions, he turned his gaze away without hesitation, closed the door, and went down the stairs.
Chapter 2 is about bringing a system to Yu-Gi-Oh! to become a card dealer.
"Ring ring~"
The bell rang, signaling the end of get out of class. Lin Jun, sitting in his seat, closed his book and silently began organizing the notes he had taken in class. Before the teacher had even finished preparing the handouts, several restless students in the audience couldn't sit still any longer and excitedly gathered together before the teacher even left the classroom.
"Hey, did you hear? That 'devilish discipline officer' seems to have gone insane and been sent to a mental hospital."
"That Ushio Tetsuya? This is great news! When did this happen?"
"This morning, right next to the tree at the school gate, that cow-tailed guy was lying in a pile of fallen leaves and garbage like a madman, constantly muttering 'money.' Many people saw him."
"And I heard that he might have been bullied by someone he shouldn't have at school, and then he got into this state because of people in the community."
Hearing the sounds coming from behind, Lin Jun thought to himself: He had indeed bullied someone he shouldn't have messed with, but the person who messed with him wasn't a gangster. You would never guess who it was.
Thinking this, Lin Jun turned his head and looked at the other side of the classroom. There, sat a boy with multicolored, starfish-like hair and a stature that didn't seem like that of a high school student. At that moment, the starfish-haired boy was sitting opposite a blond boy, holding several cards in their hands, seemingly playing some kind of card game.
"Alright, it's Jonouchi's turn."
A boy with an ordinary hairstyle, who clearly didn't know how to play cards, approached the two sitting opposite each other, casually put his right arm around the blond-haired boy's shoulder and neck, and joined in their game: "What are you playing, Jonouchi?"
"Uh-huh." The blond guy, whose neck was being grabbed, pushed the boy's arm away with his free hand, twisted his neck, and then proudly held up the cards he was holding to show them. "What? You don't know these? Of course they're Duel Monsters."
"What kind of beast fighting?"
After saying only a few words, the blond-haired man became impatient: "Stop making so much noise. Just go to the side and watch quietly. If I lose the game this time, it's all your fault."
As he spoke, the blond-haired man pushed away the boy leaning against him and focused his attention back on the card in his hand.
The boy who was pushed away wasn't angry about such a small matter, which showed that he and the blond-haired guy had a pretty good relationship. Looking at the two focused on each other, the boy scratched his head in slight trouble: "Seriously, is this thing really that interesting? I don't see anything wrong with it at all."
Lin Jun, who was standing up to go to the bathroom, heard the boy's mutterings. He glanced at the boy's hairstyle and thought to himself: There's nothing I can do. After all, Honda, your hairstyle is too ordinary. It's not even as unrestrained as the unicorn from the Conan movie set next door. It's not your fault that you don't get the fun of playing cards.
As Lin Jun walked out of the classroom, he could still hear the girl standing next to the boy who had been pushed away by the blond-haired guy saying, "The so-called 'Duel Monsters' is a game where you summon monsters on the field and then use magic cards to fight and defend against each other. It's a very popular and famous game."
Moreover, in the future, playing cards might even save the world, and more than once, Lin Jun added in his mind.
The name "Duel Monsters" may sound quite unfamiliar, but it becomes much more familiar when called "Yu-Gi-Oh!"
Initially, this was just a fictional game created by the author within a manga, based on the protagonist's "proficiency in various games," and many other games were similar. However, as the manga continued, many readers became particularly interested in this "Duel Monsters" game, leading to a major overhaul of the manga's setting, which then focused entirely on the "Duel Monsters" game.
And so the manga title "Yu-Gi-Oh!" became synonymous with the game.
After a day, Lin Jun had barely accepted the fact that he had not been reborn through possession, but had instead transmigrated into the world of Yu-Gi-Oh! and become an ordinary student at Domino High School. Even his name had changed from "Lin Jun" to "Kobayashi Hayato".
What offered some comfort to Hayato Lin—or rather, Hayato Kobayashi (hereafter referred to as "Hayato")—was that his name from his previous life had not disappeared, but had simply been incorporated into his new name.
Furthermore, Hayato was quite lucky; his class happened to be the same one as Yugi Muto, the protagonist of Yu-Gi-Oh!, and the students in that class were truly a hidden gem:
The officially designated strongest (underworld) duelist, Yugi Muto;
The game's spiritual mentor and pseudo-heroine, Kyoko Masaki;
The genius inventor and the second protagonist, a card-playing addict, is Seto Kaiba.
Lv. Fan Gu, Supreme Gambler King and the third protagonist, Jonouchi Katsuya;
Bakura is the human form of the final boss, the Great Evil God, who appeared in the first episode and survived until the very end.
There's also Honda Hiro, who beat up the guy mentioned above with his iron fists, his best friend Jonouchi, and who wanted to become his brother-in-law.
What do you mean by a star-studded lineup? (Leans back tactically)
Lost in thought, Hayato finished urinating and came out of the bathroom, wiping the water off his hands with a handkerchief.
Honestly, he didn't have many complaints about being transported to the world of Yu-Gi-Oh!. In his previous life, his parents died early, leaving him with no elderly relatives to care for, and he had never been married. Otherwise, he had no regrets.
At most, he just didn't get to see GTA6, didn't get to play the Kamen Rider toys he pre-ordered, and didn't have time to clean up his D drive... The more Hayato thought about it, the uglier his face became.
Let's try a different approach.
At least one thing is certain: while the world of Yu-Gi-Oh! is dangerous, it is safer than those purely action-packed anime.
Even an ordinary person with no physical strength would have a sliver of a chance to fight back when facing a perpetrator, although they'd more likely be one-shotted by someone else's lucky draw. But at least that's better than being casually killed by wild pirates or Hollows in worlds like One Piece or Bleach, right?
After confirming that no one in the corridor was paying attention to him, Hayato cautiously raised his hand and seemingly casually "tapped" the air in front of him with his finger.
A voice rang in Hayato's ear: [Beep beep, you king—your starter card pack has arrived.]
Almost at the same moment the mysterious voice disappeared, Hayato felt a weight in his pocket. Reaching inside, he touched a square metal object.
Will the Ordinary Bone Deck dream of Hypnotic Sheep (Normal Monster)?
With no one around, Hayato casually pulled the square piece of metal he had touched from his pocket.
It was a metal box, and it wasn't locked; you could open it directly.
"What amazing technology! Creating something from nothing."
Upon opening the metal box, a stack of cards was neatly arranged inside. According to the "SaiQ Duelist System" in front of Hayato, this deck was Hayato's beginner's gift pack.
This morning, just as Kobayashi Hayato arrived at the classroom and met Yugi Muto with his starfish head, a semi-transparent virtual screen suddenly appeared in front of him, displaying the message "Welcome to the SaiQ Duelist System. Please claim your initial card pack," along with a "Confirm Claim" button.
After trying it, Hayato discovered that it seemed that no one but himself could see or touch the transparent screen, and he could adjust the visibility of the screen simply by thinking. It could appear instantly when needed and disappear instantly when not needed without obstructing the view.
