108. Chapter 108   Didn’t he Care about you?

Yan Chuyang looked down and shook his head anxiously. He said softly with a pale face, “I was not sober just now. I can’t get disheartened. How can I dishearten myself at such a critical time?”

The competition was approaching. Shen Shimin came menacingly again with a child. Even if Wei Qing was not the child’s father, Shen Shimin might use the child to gain Wei Qing’s sympathy.

After all, Wei Qing had liked her before, and Yan Chuyang knew that Wei Qing had a soft heart under his tough face. If Shen Shimin reminded him of their happy past, he might change his mind and get back to her.

At this moment, what he needed to do was to defend himself.  How could he lie here and wait for death in depression?

“I can’t die.” Yan Chuyang muttered as he scooped a jacket from the corner of the bed in cold sweat. He said to Wei Yuan, “Come, take me to the hospital, the best hospital.”

Wei Yuan nodded, “Okay, okay, go to the best hospital.”

After Wei Yuan dressed Yan Chuyang, he held his shoulders and slowly walked downstairs.

When they got out of the dormitory building, they bumped into Song Huaiqi.

“What’s the matter with him?” At sight of Yan Chuyang’s red face, Song Huaiqi’s face darkened and he hurried over to ask.

Wei Yuan paused before he frowned and quickly said, “He is having a fever after drinking some alcohol.”

Song Huaiqi hurriedly raised his hand and felt Yan Chuyang’s forehead. He withdrew his hand in shock and widened his eyes. “He is burning.”

“He seems to have had the fever for a long time. Just now, he was shaking in the dormitory.”

“How could this happen?” Song Huaiqi took Yan Chuyang from Wei Yuan and said, “He has had the fever for such a long time, but he didn’t go see a doctor. Does he want to die?”

Wei Yuan frowned anxiously. “He couldn’t help it. There’s no one else in the dormitory. We don’t even know about it.”

Song Huaiqi sighed and looked at Wei Yuan. “Don’t worry. I have a car outside. I’ll take him to the hospital.”

Wei Yuan wanted to refuse, but he didn’t have a car, and he had to take Yan Chuyang to the school gate for a cab. That would waste quite some time, and Yan Chuyang’s illness was urgent. Therefore, he nodded and said, “Be careful when driving.”

Song Huaiqi said okay and held Yan Chuyang’s shoulders, helping him into the car.

At ten in the evening.

There was only one bed in the large quiet ward. Yan Chuyang was lying on the bed with his eyes tightly shut. His long eyelashes were like two fans, leaving faint shadows under his eyes. The white bed sheet and the white pillow set off his pale skin, which looked transparent.

Song Huaiqi sat at the head of the bed and looked up at the liquid trickling down from the bottle. He noticed that the liquid flowed too fast, so he raised his hand to adjust the IV drip so that the liquid flowed slower to make Yan Chuyang feel more comfortable.

Yan Chuyang’s fever was serious.

The doctor said that if he had come two hours later, the illness might have developed into meningitis.

In fact, his illness at the early stage was very simple. He would be fine if he had reduced the fever with physical hypothermy or antipyretic. However, Yan Chuyang didn’t deal with the fever, and instead covered himself with several blankets when he felt cold. As a result, the fever stayed and got worse. During the four hours from one to five o’clock, he had been having a high fever of thirty-nine centigrade degrees. No one would be fine after suffering such a long time.

The door squeaked opened, and a doctor in a white coat came in with a stethoscope.

Hearing the footsteps, Song Huaiqi quickly stood up from his chair and turned to look at the doctor.

“Doctor, it’s been more than an hour. Why hasn’t he woken up yet?”

The doctor frowned and hushed him softly, “Don’t disturb the patient.”

Song Huaiqi looked embarrassed and stepped back.

The doctor walked to the bedside. He took the stethoscope and put it on Yan Chuyang’s chest, listening to his heart beats. He raised his hand and felt his forehead. His tense face softened a bit.

Song Huaiqi came up again and whispered worriedly, “Doctor, how is he now? Does he get better?”

The doctor waved at the door, signaling for him to go out.

Song Huaiqi nodded, followed him out of the ward and carefully closed the door.

“What’s the relationship between the patient and you?” The doctor looked at the medical record and asked.

Song Huaiqi paused and hurriedly said, “He, he is kind of my brother.”

The doctor sighed disapprovingly and shook his head. “If you are his family, you didn’t take good care of him.”

As he spoke, the doctor opened the medical record and showed it to Song Huaiqi. “Before he came to take the IV drip, the patient had had a fever for at least four hours. A fever isn’t a small thing. Many people’s brains were ruined after they ran a high fever for two hours. The patient looks young. As his family, why didn’t you take him to the hospital when he was feeling unwell?”

Song Huaiqi frowned with distress. “Because, because I’m busy recently, and I was not with him…”

The doctor sighed and interrupted him, “All right, he’s out of danger now. If he had come here two hours later, his illness might have developed into meningitis. He looks so young, and it will be too pitiful if he suffers the disease.”

Song Huaiqi’s heart ached, and he said with a grave face, “Thank you, doctor. I’ll take good care of him from now on.”

The doctor nodded and closed the medical record, turning to the office.

After Song Huaiqi smoked a cigarette at the balcony of the hospital and calmed down for a while, he turned around and entered the ward.

Yan Chuyang was still asleep. When he was taken to the hospital, considering his high fever, the doctor prescribed him two pills of antipyretic, which had the soothing and sedative effect. Besides, he was exhausted from the afternoon, so he was fast asleep.

Song Huaiqi sat by the bed and raised his hand to touch Yan Chuyang’s pale face, his heart aching. He said softly, “Doesn’t your ‘cousin’ care about you a lot? I thought he would take good care of you, but he actually leaves you alone when you are having a high fever.”

The room was quiet, and there was no response.

Song Huaiqi fell silent. He leaned back in his chair and stared at the Yan Chuyang’s delicate sleeping face.
