Contractual Marriage: We’re Meant to Be Together
Chapter 251
251. Do You Think It’ll Work Out Between You Two?
Translator: BryanWei Qing shook his head. “I’m not afraid of that.”
“Why?”
“Because he has feelings for me.” Wei Qing paused, lowered his eyes and said in a quiet but firm voice, “And I feel the same way about him. We like each other. Nobody can break us up.”
Song Huaiqi’s temples twitched at the sudden term of endearment, goosebumps rising up his back.
Song Huaiqi let out a hollow laugh and said sarcastically, “You finally admit you have feelings for him?”
Wei Qing raised his head and said, “Anybody can tell we’re in love.”
“You used to strongly deny that.”
“That’s because I loved him too much.”
“Why didn’t you say it was because you’re a coward?”
“It’s because I loved him too much.”
“Huh, it’s definitely because of your cowardice.”
“It’s because I loved him too much.”
“…”
Song Huaiqi speechlessly let out a sigh and limply leaned against the back of his chair.
He shouldn’t have argued with Wei Qing. He had actually forgotten that Wei Qing was the most consummate master of disguise and the most shameless man in this industry.
“Well then, it’s settled.” Wei Qing put the document back into his bag and said, “That’s all I’ve got to say. I think you’ve come to know what you’re supposed to do. Don’t worry. As long as you keep that secret, Wanfeng will remain your company.”
Song Huaiqi clenched his fists. “Can I trust you not to work against my company again?”
A scornful look appeared in Wei Qing’s eyes and he replied, “I think you’re not too stupid to understand that I have no interest in your company. Your beloved mother should’ve told you the purpose of what I’ve done in the past two months is to help Yan Chuyang get his revenge.”
Song Huaiqi paled visibly at the thought of what had happened that night. He lowered his eyes in an almost flustered way and said, “I’m really sorry. It’s all my fault. But I was really drunk that night. I didn’t know what I was doing…Anyway, I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.” Wei Qing sneered, “You should feel lucky that my marriage partner’s strong enough to defend himself against you. If you had hurt him, Song Huaiqi, not only would your company have been lost to you, but even you yourself wouldn’t have sat here talking with me.”
Wei Qing’s words sounded casual, but Song Huaiqi sensed a manifestly threatening tone in his voice, which made his heart lurch.
“I got nothing else to say.” Wei Qing rose to his feet. “I’ve told you everything I can tell you. What happens next will depend on your actions. In a word, keep it in mind that I can make your company disappear whenever I want.”
Song Huaiqi compressed his lips together and kept silent.
Wei Qing glanced at him and turned to leave.
But he had barely gone two steps when Song Huaiqi called after him.
“Wei Qing.”
Wei Qing halted.
Song Huaiqi balled his hands into fists and eventually blurted, “I can keep your little secret, but you must promise you’ll be nice to Yan Chuyang. If you dare hurt him, I’ll chase after him again and tell him the truth, whatever the cost might be.”
Wei Qing’s eyes became inscrutable. After pondering for a while, he turned around and, staring fixedly at Song Huaiqi, said, “Song Huaiqi, I’ve been meaning to ask you this for quite some time. If I’d never met Yan Chuyang, do you think it’d work out between you and him?”
Song Huaiqi’s eyebrows twitched as he suddenly raised his voice. “Of course it would work out!”
Wei Qing sneered. “Stop cheating yourself. Your mother had some men beat Yan Chuyang and stab him when all you did was just bring him home once. Has it ever occurred to you what she might do to Yan Chuyang if you throw caution to the wind and marry him? How do you think the so-called large family of yours would banish him and torture him?”
“I will protect him!” Song Huaiqi straightened his back in anxiety.
“Protect him? By letting him get beaten up and stabbed and hospitalized?” Wei Qing growled, interrupting him.
The air seemed to freeze for two or three seconds.
Song Huaiqi leaned back against his chair limply, feeling so ashamed and disconcerted as if he had been stripped naked.
Wei Qing exhaled deeply. “I remember you telling me your family businesses are under the control of your parents, that you have a big brother and a little sister. If you want to keep your claim to the family fortune, you’ll have to be obedient to your parents, but if you’re obedient to them, you wouldn’t be able to protect the one you love. You can’t have your cake and eat it too. You must make a choice. I think you can see now why you lost to me.”
Song Huaiqi embarrassedly averted his eyes and snorted, “It’s because my family’s not as powerful as yours, and you’re richer than me.”
“No,” Wei Qing said with a shake of his head. “It’s because I have better parents.”
Song Huaiqi looked at him in confusion.
Wei Qing chuckled, “My father’s gay. He was never against me dating Yan Chuyang. In fact, he’s been giving me his full support from the very beginning. He likes Yan Chuyang and sees him as his own child. Yan Chuyang and I have my family’s support. Everybody around me will be nice to him and protect him. This along is something you can’t give him.”
Song Huaiqi let out a long sigh and leaned limply against the back of his chair as if he had been drained of strength.
It turned out that he had been lying to himself all along.
He had kept trying to convince himself and coax himself by making up all kinds of excuses, telling himself that Yan Chuyang had married Wei Qing because Wei Qing tricked Yan Chuyang into it.
Although the two of them were married, they had only known each other for half a year, but he, Song Huaiqi, had stayed by Yan Chuyang’s side for nearly six years. He had known Yan Chuyang longer than Wei Qing had, and also made greater effort than Wei Qing had.
Therefore, he had believed that he still had a chance.
But he was wrong.
In the past half a year, Wei Qing had given Yan Chuyang everything he could offer him, looking out for Yan Chuyang’s best interests. He had been protecting Yan Chuyang and loving him.
Wei Qing had even admitted in front of the press that he had married a man, letting everybody know that he was gay.
However, Song Huaiqi didn’t have the guts to do that.
He didn’t even dare mention his name in those letters.
He couldn’t put Yan Chuyang first, let alone admit his love for him.
