Death’s Heir

Watching the stunned faces of everyone in the arena the host smiled.

"Amazing isn't it? A real-life human…..how many years has it been? Hundreds? Thousands? Millions? I don't even remember! it doesn't look as devilish as my elders described….now everyone take a good look at all the beast here then go place your bets! The betting station will only be open for one hour since our contestants will be waking up in about thirty to forty minutes and once they're awake we don't wanna delay, so let's go!"

With the shout as a reminder majority of the people in the arena began rushing towards the betting station.

"I know some of you might be wondering why there are eight participants in that cage but only two or there in the other? Well that's simple because..... it's more fun that way!"

Very few remained seated. Kakar, the lioness and her few bodyguards —that we spread out far enough to shift suspicion but close enough to be prepared for any unexpected event— were among the few still seated.

"Who are you betting on Kakar?"

"I would bet on the one I trained of course, Milady. But in this case, this is the first time in a long time anyone has seen a human so they'll probably all bet on him as well so I'm afraid there won't be much for me to make"

The lioness smiled faintly before replying

"Mhmm I know but I meant who do you think is going to win?"

Kakar didn't hesitate at all.

"My answer would still be the same"

As if surprised by his response the lioness stared at him before smiling again.

"You have that much faith? Even when facing off against that?"

Raising her paw she pointed at a giant green mantis that was in the same cage as Azreal.

Seeing the mantis Kakar was slightly surprised but only for a moment.

"Well, that's surprising….A King Mantis, but it's all the same, it might be a difficult fight for him since he can't use Divine Energy but I don't think he'll lose"

With that response the lioness spoke no further.

"Come on people! Hurry up and place your bets so we can get this show underway! I can feel myself getting old just waiting on you guys! The competitors are even starting to wake up already!"

With this type of encouragement, people started pushing and shoving, in a situation like these customers were bound to make all sorts of mistakes but no one moved forward to stop them.

After about thirty minutes majority of the crowd began returning to their seats.

"Fuck I placed my bet on that white bear! What kinda shitty luck is this? I wanted to bet on that King Mantis! They aren't even in the same region!!"

"Hey! I wanted to bet on the bear but got the mantis, wanna trade and we pay each other the difference?"

"Fuck yea!"

Several of these types of transactions were taking place all throughout the crowd.

This was something that the arena did all the time in order to keep their profits high but this was the first year it was done in such an obvious manner so majority of the crowd didn't pay any attention to it.

"Alright! Bettings closed!!!"

Because of the constant tramping and shouting, Azreal had woken up a while ago, looking over everything.

The entire arena was built no different from a coliseum but at the edge of the ring there was a light being reflected out of thin air.

Almost like there was a glass dome over the ring.

During a majority of their training sections Kakar had explained quite a bit about the arena and what to expect so seeing all the warbeast getting excited and betting on whether he'd die or not wasn't surprising in the least, but even though he knew about it it still irritated him.

In his cage, the most eye-catching creature was a giant Mantis.

It was nothing short of being a beast, a typical Mantis would be thin but this one had bulging muscles and veins that looked like they were about to pop compared to it the rest weren't even worth mentioning.
