Some Time Between Father and Son. (Part 1)

Inside the royal castle.

Grid-ractos here, just taking a breaking as today’s work has been finished.

There was considerably less paperwork today than usual.

Usually I am buried in paperwork to the extent that I cannot move. However today, the paperwork only ended up covering the floor.

It wasn’t really bad that I could take it easy, but I felt like it somehow wasn’t enough.

Even though I was not His Majesty, I was assaulted with boredom.   

(TL : majesty is so bored that even grid-dono know about it xD)

“Oya, Administrator Ractos. Is the work for today already finished?”

A man walked towards me with a smile on his face.

It was Count Raul-Nizzet.

Just like me, he was also someone entrusted with financial management. Count Raul-Nizzet also knew that the rumour concerning my household was completely baseless. He is quite important as an administrative assistant.

Even his daughter is someone who is magically gifted as they are descended from a lineage of elite sorcerers.

Normally, he would have become part of the upper echelon of the Magic Guild. However, the prime minister knew that he had knowledge regarding finance, and he shed tears while pleading to the Count to serve as my aid.    

Although his peerage is lower than mine, it was my father Diebold that earned our family’s peerage due to a meritorious deed he performed during the war.

It was not something I earned with my own hands.

Because of this, I spoke with Count Raul as a friend without any concerns to our peerage. I beleive that Count Raul also shares this view.

He does . . . right?

“Count Nizzet, thank you for your hard work today. Today’s workload was quite light.” (Grid)

“ . . . That amount of work is light, eh?”

Count Raul’s smile became cramped.

Have I said something wrong?

More than that, I was quite jealous of Count Raul.

That face. That well arranged face that always had a gentle smile.  

Even though we’re from the same generation, he always gets showered with “Kya kya” from women and children.

Of course, it was a favorable shout.

In my case, it would be “Hiiiih!” or maybe “Kyaaaa!”. That’s it.

Of course, it was a scream of terror.

. . . I felt quite depressed.

“Ahem . . . well let us put aside talk of work for now. Right now, I would like to ask for an answer regarding that matter . . . you know . . .” (Raul)

That matter?

. . . Ah, the talk about the marriage interview between Raul’s daughter and my son Jake.

“If it’s about that, I cannot wish for more than that . . . However, I asked Jake-kun about it and he seemed to feel uneasy about it.” (Grid)

Jake has always been feared by girls his age after all. Even though he is from a duke’s household, there has never been any talk of a fiancee up to this point. Something like this would normally make him feel quite hesitant, right?

“No need to worry about that. After all, we also understand Jake-kun’s circumstances. Honestly, our house is also having quite a bit of trouble as well.”

Umu . . . it was Anessa-chan was it not?

If I’m not mistaken, she was isolated due to the peculiar magical trait she possesses.

While it was not to the extent of our household’s, she also had a characteristic that would raise misunderstandings if seen.

I wonder if they had a problem finding a fiance for her like we did for  Jake……

“Certainly, it is better to do this as quickly as possible. If this keeps up, it will be bad for both of us.” (Grid)

The bloodline of our household will cease during my son’s generation.

Erza?

Erza is already no good . . .

“Well then, the date will be fixed on . . .”

“Excuse me. Father, Count Nizzet.” (Jake)

It was a voice I was familiar with. It was Jake.

What an unusual sight for Jake to come to the royal castle.

“Jake, for you to come to the royal castle . . . has something happened?” (Grid)

“Well, there’s nothing that important. I also heard the two of you talking here. By the way . . . eavesdropping isn’t good you know?” (Jake)

Jake looked at the edge of the corridor and raised his voice.

Ah, a maid just ran away in panic.

Fufu. Is Jake embarrassed at the prospect of someone hearing about his marriage interview?  

It’s the only aspect of him that has remained childish.
