"Not bad, Danzo, but do you think you can escape?"

Danzo's decisive action further elevated Karot's opinion of him. He had only just lost one life and already devised a plan for retreat. Truly a veteran who had survived three Shinobi World Wars, his ability to assess and avoid danger was remarkable.

"Playing cat and mouse is not bad either. Dying in despair is quite a suitable scenario for you, Elder Danzo."

The thought filled Carrot with eager anticipation.

Carrot calmly followed the route Danzo had taken.

"Damn it, this place is way too big."

Danzo began to complain about the scale of the base, saying that it was built with a frantic pace, the bigger the better, and the designed passageways were winding and crooked. This caused Danzo to spend even more time on it.

"Elder Danzo, I have arrived."

Carrot's voice rang out behind Danzo, and a beam of yellow light shot from Carrot's hand, striking Danzo squarely in the back.

"puff."

Danzo died.

"Wow, how accurate! I was aiming at the stone next to him."

Carrot was deliberately trying to trick Danzo and create some tension for him. He didn't aim properly, but Danzo just happened to run into him. It was truly a matter of timing and fate.

After Danzo came back to life, he didn't hesitate for a moment and ran. In this chase through the passage, Danzo died a total of eight times, each time meticulously planned by Carrot. Being cleaved in two by the Spirit Disc, blasted to pieces by the Spirit Wave, and so on, made Carrot feel a little sorry for Danzo.

This is truly a tearful situation for the Crocodile Team. If you're so capable, then don't kill them.

But Danzo gritted his teeth and ran forward headlong without looking back.

Danzo finally reached the Root's control center. The barrier-closing hub was located there. Danzo finally stopped.

Upon seeing Danzo, Carrot immediately charged forward and punched through Danzo's chest, bursting out of his body.

Although he could kill Danzo, he couldn't reveal his identity. While Karot was unaffected, what about Kakashi? The Konoha leadership knew about the relationship between Karot and Kakashi. If Karot simply walked away, wouldn't Kakashi be left in an awkward position? Therefore, the only option was to ask Elder Danzo to die quietly.

"cough."

"Finally caught you." Danzo grabbed Karot's arm, stopping his convulsions. He looked up and met Karot's eyes. Danzo then revealed his ninjutsu.

"Other gods."

Chapter 83 Leaving

Danzo's lips curled into a smirk. Ever since Karot first killed him, Danzo had known he was no match for Karot. His only hope for a comeback lay in Shisui's "Kotoamatsukami." Danzo had nurtured this eye for over a decade. Now it was finally coming in handy.

Moreover, it could turn Karot into a sharp sword in his hand. Danzo had no doubt about the power of Shisui's "Kotoamatsukami".

"Hahaha."

Seeing the confusion in Karot's eyes, Danzo couldn't help but burst into laughter. Who wouldn't be happy to have gained such a powerful assassin under their command?

Danzo had already traded ten Sharingan eyes for a loyal Karot, and Danzo felt he hadn't lost out.

"Come with me."

Danzo turned around and gave an order to Karot. But as Danzo walked, he realized something was wrong; he didn't hear Karot's footsteps behind him.

Danzo suddenly turned around and saw Carrot looking at him with a mocking expression.

"No way, this is impossible."

Danzo's finger trembled as he pointed at Karot, retreating repeatedly. He couldn't believe that Shisui's Kotoamatsukami hadn't worked; it was supposedly a genjutsu that could change a person's mind and spirit.

"I was hoping to play along with you, Elder Danzo, but unfortunately our game of hide-and-seek just now wasted too much of the team's time."

"I can't even cooperate with you if I want to."

Carrot spread his hands, looking troubled.

At this point, Danzo was truly afraid of Go. He didn't want to die yet; he hadn't become Hokage.

He turned and ran, but just as he was running, Carrot teleported and stood in front of his group. Danzo changed direction and ran again, but each time Carrot teleported in front of him.

Knowing there was no chance of escape, Danzo decided to go all out and attack directly, but he was killed by a ki blast before he even reached Karot.

With the last Sharingan deactivated, Danzo came back to life once more.

"Why do you want to kill me? We have no past grievances or recent enmity."

Danzo asked the question that had been nagging at him. During the time Karot had been in Konoha, Danzo had not had any contact with him, yet Karot had come to the Root forces and started killing indiscriminately without explanation.

"Didn't I say so? I always thought you knew."

Carrot slapped his forehead, looking slightly embarrassed. "You have to give people a reason!"

"My name is Karot Hatake."

Carrot told Danzo his surname.

Danzo's eyes widened. The name "Hatake" reminded him of Konoha's former hero, "Konoha's White Fang," Hatake Sakumo, whose sword was renowned throughout the ninja world, but who was ultimately killed by Danzo's scheme.

"How could you possibly be Sakumo Hatake's son? Your age doesn't match at all."

Danzo refused to believe Karot's words. Under normal circumstances, that would indeed be the case, but Karot was not acting normally now. However, Karot did not explain this to Danzo.

Whether you believe it or not is irrelevant to me.

"I'm only here to kill you."

After saying this, Carrot walked towards Danzo.

"Ha ha ha ha."

Danzo laughed loudly, looking up at the sky.

"You think you can take my life? No way."

Danzo slapped his abdomen, and black fluid gushed out from his stomach.

"Come with me, Four Symbols Seal."

Danzo ultimately wanted to take Karot with him in death. The entire secret chamber's doors slammed shut instantly. The walls were engraved with arrays to prevent anyone from teleporting out.

"The door to the secret room is now closed. You can't leave. Do you regret coming to assassinate me?"

It might be a final burst of energy before death; anyone who uses the Four Symbols Seal is doomed.

"You're wrong, you'll die, but I won't."

As soon as Karot finished speaking, he emitted a beam of light, causing Danzo to fall backward. An explosion began inside the secret chamber—something Danzo had planned. A switch inside Danzo's body connected to the chamber meant that the chamber would explode upon Danzo's death, obliterating all the data. The light emitted by the Four Symbols Seal attempted to restrain Karot, but it was blocked by Karot's aura.

"We've come to bury you in such a big place. It's all worth it."

After saying that, Carrot disappeared. The array in the secret chamber had no effect on Carrot.

It was already past midnight when Carlo returned to the Hatake residence. He wrote two letters and placed them on the table in the room.

"system."

"Carrot called out."

"Yes, host. What are your orders?"

"Let's go back!"

"That's how it ended, because parting is always sad," Carrot said calmly.

"Okay, host."

Suddenly, a door appeared in front of Carrot.

"Wait, isn't it a crack?"

Carrot asked, somewhat surprised.

"It looks better this way."

The system's cold, impersonal response.

Carrot turned the handle and went straight inside.

"bump."

After the door closed, it slowly disappeared, as if it had all been an illusion.

"Boom, boom."

As soon as it was light, Kakashi knocked on Karot's door, but there was no response for a long time.

"I'm in."

Kakashi pushed the door open and entered. He looked around the room but couldn't find Karot, then noticed two letters on the table.

One letter was received by Kakashi, and the other by Naruto.

Kakashi immediately opened his letter and wrote something inside.

"Kakashi, I'm leaving now that I've finished. Don't miss me too much. You're getting old, and the Hatake clan's future depends on you. Hurry up and find a wife. There are two boxes under the table, one for you and one for Naruto. Consider it my gift to you both. Also, that purple orb of light, crush it when you're at your most desperate, and something unexpected will happen. Your brother, Karoturu."
