Li Mu took a deep breath, concentrated, and fired the fourth shot, finally losing an arm.

With his fifth shot, Li Mu aimed at a thigh, hesitated for two seconds, and pulled the trigger. The shot hit the target perfectly, breaking the bone in the thigh and leaving a fist-sized hole in the wound.

The zombies had lost most of their mobility and were howling back and forth on the ground.

Li Mu changed targets again and fired once more, this time taking four shots to eliminate the target.

In this residential area, Li Mu could observe approximately seventy zombies. Due to the distance, a higher level of precision was required, making it take longer than dealing with the zombies on the street outside the residential area.

It took half an hour to initially achieve the goal of rendering the seventy-odd zombies unable to move.

After resting for a few minutes, Li Mu set his sights on the residential area on the right, about 1.2 kilometers away.

With each gunshot, zombies were struck, becoming crippled and losing most of their mobility. In an instant, the neighborhood was filled with all sorts of howling, crippled zombies.

More than half an hour later, all the losses that Li Mu could observe in this community were resolved.

Looking at the time, it was already noon. I had a quick lunch, rested for a while, and then started working again at 1 p.m.

The target this time is a residential area to the right front, which is also the last residential area within 1.5 kilometers, and about 1.2 kilometers away from Li Mu.

With sniper rifles mounted and silencers installed, the battle resumed with a muffled thud.

This time it still took more than half an hour to finish. After that, there were no more suitable residential areas within 1.5 kilometers.

However, while there were none in the residential area, there were still quite a few zombies wandering within range. Some had escaped from nearby residential areas, while others had wandered over from other places.

Li Mu set up his sniper rifle and began to take them down one by one.

It wasn't until 2 PM that the zombies within effective firing range were finally dealt with. The next step was to lead the militia to finish them off and completely eliminate the remaining zombies.

Chapter 495 Flat Push

At 2 p.m., Li Mu arrived at the community's leisure square, where fully armed militiamen were already gathering one after another.

Aside from leaving a small team of militiamen to guard the community, the remaining militiamen, including more than 300 logistics personnel, headed towards the nearest Mantingfang community under Li Mu's leadership.

More than seventy zombies in this community have lost their ability to move under Li Mu's gun. There may be some left, on the other side of the building, in a place out of sight, or in the corridor. Their numbers are not too many.

At a command, nearly four hundred frontline militiamen filed into the community in accordance with the established tactics and formations.

At the very front are over a hundred riot shields, responsible for both advancing and defending. Next are riot forks and capture forks, responsible for assisting in defense and controlling the zombies.

Finally, there was the attack team, consisting of over a hundred riflemen. Any zombie that stood in their way would be riddled with bullets.

The rearguard was handled by a squad of melee weapons, who would finish off the zombies, which also served as a training exercise for the team.

When it comes to dealing with zombies, bullets are no match for melee weapons in terms of lethality. The biggest advantage of firearms is that they allow you to maintain a safe distance, preventing zombies from attacking you at close range.

No one can predict what the future holds, so it's necessary to first cultivate a group of people who are accustomed to using cold weapons.

Now is the perfect opportunity; the zombies are either crippled or riddled with bullets, making it a good time to practice.

As the militia combat formation advanced, more than seventy disabled zombies were eliminated one by one. On the other side of the building, more than ten normal zombies, under the powerful firepower, lasted less than a few minutes before being swiftly and decisively eliminated as well.

The commotion downstairs had already been heard by the residents of the upstairs community, who opened their windows one by one and looked down with excitement.

At first, the militia team needed to focus all their efforts on dealing with the zombies. To avoid being affected, at Li Mu's request, the tenants upstairs did not make much noise.

Now that all the zombies downstairs have been eliminated, everyone could no longer contain themselves and let out a deafening roar. They had been cooped up at home for days; some were almost out of food, others were sick and had to endure it all… Now that dawn was breaking, many cheered and prepared to open their doors and go downstairs.

Seeing this, Li Mu realized it wasn't the time to go downstairs, so he quickly found a loudspeaker.

"Everyone, please be quiet... We are the militia team from the neighboring Yuyuan residential area. We are here to assist our Mantingfang residential area in eliminating zombies and restoring normal life."

"Please do not go downstairs or leave your homes. The danger is not completely over..."

"From what I understand, there may be zombies wandering in the stairwells and even elevators of many residential buildings, so it is very dangerous to go out now."

"Next, we will organize the militia to conduct a thorough search of all residential buildings to eliminate potential dangers. Please cooperate actively, thank you!"

When it came to matters of life and death, many people who had been impulsive and wanted to go downstairs after seeing the zombies cleared out immediately calmed down and dared not go out.

After a short rest, Li Mu divided the militia into three groups, each responsible for a building, and began the clearing operation.

Half an hour later, the three buildings were cleared. Li Mu immediately recruited all the militiamen from the three buildings to join the team, and divided the militiamen into four groups to carry out the clearing operation on the four residential buildings.

In just over half an hour, the four residential buildings were also cleared out. All the militiamen were conscripted, reorganized into teams, and carried out a unified cleanup of all the remaining residential buildings.

By the time the zombies in Mantingfang Community were cleared away and the residents were all smiles, it was nearly four o'clock in the afternoon.

Checking the time, Li Mu knew there was no time to lose. He left some of the militia from the Mantingfang residential area to handle the cleanup. He then led the militia from the Yuyuan residential area, along with over three hundred militiamen recruited from the Mantingfang area, to the next residential area to begin the clearing operation.

With the experience gained from the Mantingfang community, the number of militia members was greatly increased, making the cleanup operation even faster this time.

Around 5:40 PM, all the zombies on the ground and in the residential buildings of the community were completely wiped out. Amid the residents' jubilation, Li Mu led more than 400 newly recruited militiamen to the next community.

This time it was even faster; by 7 p.m., all the zombies in the neighborhood had been wiped out.

With that, the goal of clearing out all three residential areas was achieved, and it was gradually getting dark.

Nighttime is the peak period for zombie mutations, making night shift work of paramount importance. Previously, some communities had improper night shift procedures, resulting in significant casualties among the militia members. This made everyone wary of professional militias, and they gradually began to lie low, relying entirely on the army.

Now that the military has suffered severe manpower losses and is unable to cope with the situation, the current consequences have arisen.

If it weren't for Li Mu leading the support team, the people in these three communities would have been trapped in their homes for who knows how much longer.

Now that we've just regained our freedom, we naturally have to keep up with the night shifts, otherwise there will be no one to deal with the mutated people, and the residential buildings in the community will be surrounded by zombies again early tomorrow morning.

Although the militia members of the other three communities were still somewhat apprehensive about working the night shift, they naturally couldn't afford to lie down again when faced with the opportunity to choose again.

Only by saving yourself can others lend a helping hand. If you're indifferent and don't care about anything, who will be willing to help you?

Li Mu also knew that these people didn't have much experience dealing with zombies and still had a strong sense of fear. With this mentality, relying on them to take the night shift would only result in them getting killed.

Over a hundred people were selected from the militia team of Yuyuan Community and formed into three groups, which were then sent to three different communities to assist them with night shifts and to train them in corresponding tactics.

And so, another busy day passed.

The next day, at eight o'clock in the morning, except for a small number of people left on duty, the militiamen from the four communities were all summoned by Li Mu to gather in a nearby square.

Looking at the number of people, it's quite a lot. The Yuyuan Community militia currently has nearly 400 people in the front line and more than 300 people in the logistics team, totaling more than 700 people.

The Mantingfang residential community currently has over 600 militia members. The other two communities each have around 500 to 600 militia members.

There are four districts in total, and the remaining militia members number about 2,500.

Li Mu selected those with weaker physiques and formed a logistics team of one thousand people, while the remaining one thousand five hundred people were all assigned to the front line.

Following the initial organizational structure of the Yuyuan residential community, the 2,500 people, with the Yuyuan community militia as the backbone, were divided into 25 squads. Among them, 15 were front-line squads, which were also logistics squads.

Most of the twenty-five team leaders were former team leaders or group leaders from the Yuyuan residential area, while the rest were infected individuals from other campuses who had performed exceptionally well.

The team is still divided into ten subgroups, and everyone can form their own groups. The subgroup leaders are selected by the members of their respective groups.

It took more than an hour to reorganize the militia, and then the integration training began.

The militia members in the other residential areas are actually quite good at both drill training and anti-riot exercises. After all, Li Mu, as the inspector of the militia teams in more than twenty nearby residential areas, had put in a lot of effort to train them a few days ago.

However, a bad soldier is bad for one person, and a bad general makes a bad army. Without a good leader, without a leader with outstanding ability, the militia cannot work together, cooperate with each other, and exert its due combat power.

Li Mu possesses precisely these qualities. Now that these people are under his command, with just a little training and guidance, their combat effectiveness can be restored to its proper level.

It took a day to train and get the various militia squads working together, and the results were pretty good.

The next day, at eight o'clock in the morning, all the militiamen gathered in the small square on time. There were fifteen front-line teams, totaling 1,500 people. Seven teams stayed behind to continue training. Li Mu led eight front-line teams to advance along the perimeter of the four residential areas and clear out the zombies.

At the forefront were still over two hundred militiamen armed with riot shields, working together to push forward. Next came riot forks and capture forks. Finally, there were over two hundred rifles, serving as the main force of the attack.

Bringing up the rear was a small squad of over a hundred people armed with cold weapons, mainly used for finishing off enemies.

As for Li Mu, he sat in a truck transporting ammunition and supplies, providing cover for the militia.

He was truly there to provide cover and support. His heavy sniper rifle was fixed to the front of the vehicle, and as the militia advanced, he followed behind, checking for any gaps in their defenses.

If you encounter danger or a particularly aggressive zombie, fire a burst of bullets at it to minimize casualties.

It took a whole morning to completely clear out the zombies surrounding the four residential areas.

At 11:00 AM, the operation ended, and at 2:00 PM, a new round of operations began. This time, the eight squads that participated in the zombie extermination in the morning stayed behind for training, while the seven squads that stayed behind for training in the morning participated in the zombie clearing work in the afternoon.

After the perimeter of several residential areas was cleared, Li Mu chose to clean up the surrounding residential areas.

Using the same tactics as in the morning, they entered the residential area, where more than two hundred riot shields were lined up and pushed forward step by step.

Faced with the menacing, roaring zombies, shields are placed in front for defense, while riot forks and capture pincers are extended far out to push the zombies away, or several people work together to control the zombies.

More than two hundred rifles then began a frenzied barrage of fire at the zombies.

Li Mu stood on the truck, set up his sniper rifle, and began firing continuously at the live targets.

After clearing the zombies from the ground, they continued clearing the zombies from the residential buildings. It took more than an hour to completely wipe out the zombies in the neighborhood.

Following the same routine, all the militiamen were conscripted and sent to the small square for training, while Li Mu led the militia team to the next target.

By 7 p.m., as darkness fell, Li Mu had cleared out the zombies from three neighborhoods and recruited 1,600 militiamen.

Arrange the night shifts for these residential areas and hand over miscellaneous tasks to the team leaders in the logistics department. These team members were all former senior executives in companies and have excellent management skills.

When I got home that night, after dinner, I lay on a deck chair on the rooftop, drinking a little wine while communicating with the other dozen or so militia members who were still surrounded by zombies.

Surprisingly, two residential areas remained untouched. Although these two areas paid a heavy price in their night shifts dealing with the zombies, they managed to hold on.

The harvest was excellent; a few days ago, the higher-ups replenished some weapons and ammunition, so the residents of the community no longer had to hide at home and suffer every day.

In those neighborhoods besieged by zombies, life is much more difficult for the residents, as can be seen from the requests for help in various neighborhoods.
