It should be said that, due to the limited length of animation, many things are only touched upon briefly. However, this is a real world, which is not as simple as animation, nor as black and white.
High School DxD is a shonen manga, and shonen manga is characterized by a very clear division of factions: those who are willing to help the protagonist are good, and those who block the protagonist's path are evil.
However, in the real world, there is no absolute good or evil. Anime presents problems from a single perspective, which is intended to cater to the relatively simple concepts of teenagers.
The internal conflicts within the demon race, as depicted in the anime, are merely the tip of the iceberg. After learning about the conflicts between noble families through Akeno Himejima, Li Wei finally understood what Rias meant when she said that the Demon World was not as simple as it seemed.
As a newcomer and bystander, without guidance from an insider like Himejima Akeno who understands the situation, it would be difficult for Li Wei to figure out the true nature of the conflicts between the noble families.
What Li Wei wanted to complain about was that before the current Beelzebub created the "demon pieces" and started the ranking game, the demon nobles' methods for resolving internal conflicts were quite simple and brutal: either one-on-one duels or a fixed number of fights, both of which allowed for deadly attacks.
When Li Wei first watched the anime High School DxD, he thought the ranking game system was quite cumbersome, with battles requiring a bunch of messy rules as restrictions. But now he understands that without these restrictions, the bloodshed of the ranking game would be even higher.
........................
Just as Li Wei and Akeno Himejima were enjoying their time alone, the atmosphere at the Gremory family mansion became somewhat tense.
Inside the lavishly decorated reception room, Geoticus sat on the main sofa, while on another sofa next to him sat a tall, golden man dressed in a magnificent red robe.
The man with gold hair had a dignified face, but his slightly sinister eyes ruined his aura, giving him a sinister and ruthless feeling.
The golden-haired man looked at Geotix and said, "Old friend, aren't you going to give me an explanation? You were the one who said we were engaged, and now you're the one saying we should break off the engagement. Do you really think the Felix family is easy to bully?"
With a forced smile, Geotix said, "Gacien, I also had my own difficulties. I know that what I did was unfair, so I will provide appropriate compensation."
The blond man's thick eyebrows shot up, and he said in a menacing voice, "Compensation? What are you going to use to compensate me? I've already sent out the invitations, everyone knows about this now, and you're telling me you want to call off the engagement?!"
The golden-haired man called Garcian is the current patriarch of the Felix family, Garcian de Felix, a great demon at the pinnacle of the high-ranking demons.
Geoticus sighed and said, "If you do something wrong, you have to admit it. It was indeed my fault to break off the engagement, so I will admit my mistake in front of everyone. At the same time, as compensation, I will give you two cities and an artifact to appease your anger."
Although Garcín was somewhat tempted, he was still not satisfied, because what he wanted most was still the bloodline of the Gremory family. His third son, Riesel Felix, possessed an extremely pure ancestral phoenix bloodline. If this extremely pure phoenix bloodline could be fused with the bloodline of the Gremory family, who knows what kind of powerful being would be born, or even a being whose strength was close to that of a demon king.
A powerful individual capable of approaching the level of a Demon King is far more important than two cities and a divine artifact. At the same time, this is also a crucial part of his plan for the rise of the Felix family.
Therefore, even if it means completely falling out with the Gremory family and risking offending the current Demon King, he must obtain the Gremory family's bloodline.
That's why, no matter what compensation Geotix promised, he would be tempted, but never agree. These trivial compensations, compared to the Gremory family's bloodline, were like sesame seeds compared to a watermelon; who would want sesame seeds when they could control the watermelon?
Garcín shouted, "I absolutely will not agree to such compensation! If we accept it, the Felix family will lose face! What will the other noble families think of us then?! Geoticus, if you were in my shoes, would you agree to this compensation?!"
Geoticus remained silent, though a smile still lingered on his face.
Garcín continued, "I don't want any compensation. I just want this marriage to be fulfilled smoothly. If you don't want to completely push the Felix family to the opposite side, then you should seriously consider my words. Farewell!"
Garcín stood up, snorted, grabbed the hem of his robe and swung it away, leaving the maids looking on in horror.
Just after Garcín left, a cold wind swept through the reception room, and snowflakes and ice crystals formed a human figure—Vinella Gremory, the matriarch of the Gremory family.
Vinilana said, "We all know what García was up to. He originally intended to use this marriage to ease tensions between the two sides, but the change in circumstances has backfired, and we've ended up shooting ourselves in the foot. Now, García is on the side of justice."
Geotix said, "So what if he's right? As long as I lower my stance enough, I'll throw away all my pride and let him trample on me. If he dares to push me, even if he's right, he'll be wrong."
Geoticus wasn't easily intimidated. Right now, he held the information advantage. Apart from the four Demon Lords, only the Gremory family knew the distribution of those artifacts. Don't be fooled by the Felix family's current antics; once the distribution results were revealed, they would be utterly humiliated.
Who will become a laughingstock remains to be seen. And while everyone in the Demon Realm appears to be reasonable on the surface, in reality, it's all about force. With the current Demon King, Sajax, in the Gremory family, even if the Felix family had ten times the courage, they wouldn't dare to act recklessly. At most, they'd just play a ranking game and try to trip them up. A full-scale conflict? The Felix family wouldn't dare.
Chapter 4. Annulling the Engagement
Vinilana sighed and said, "I don't want Rias to marry someone she doesn't like either. Before, there was no other way, but now there is. Even if it means a complete falling out with the Felix family, I'm willing to do it."
Geotix gave a helpless smile.
Previously, there was a huge argument among Rias's family about her marriage. Rias's mother, Vinerana, was firmly against the marriage, while Rias's father, brother, uncles, and cousins all supported it.
Vinilana couldn't change anything on her own; after all, she couldn't fight city hall. So she could only endure this reality. But now things have changed. Rias no longer has to marry someone she doesn't like, and she is naturally happy about this.
Geoticus laughed and said, "Isn't this the result you wanted? The glory of the Felix family has come to an end. Although from the perspective of the overall interests of the Demon Realm, the existence of the Felix family is a deterrent to the Fallen Angels and the Heavenly Court, the oppressive feeling brought by the Felix family is too strong for the other noble families in the Demon Realm."
Frankly, it's not sympathetic that the Felix family has become the target of public criticism. The entire Felix family is quite high-profile and ruthless in their actions, always seeking to benefit from others' successes and never willing to suffer any loss.
This assertive diplomatic strategy also made the Felix family many enemies. The Felix family was large and powerful, and most noble families did not want to provoke them unless necessary. However, this only fueled the arrogance of the Felix family, giving them a sense of "we are just that awesome". As a result, the family became more aggressive in its foreign diplomacy and offended even more people.
In Geotix's view, Garcin wasn't a fool; he was simply bound by the will of his family. The Felix family was now like a chariot brimming with magic, speeding along, either smashing through all the obstacles in its path or being smashed by them—there was no other way to go.
Vinilana said, "The Felix race is also of great importance to the demon race. Without the power of the Felix race, the demon race will lose a powerful assault force in external wars."
The Felix family's abilities have been thoroughly exposed in previous wars. Even knowing the weaknesses of the family members, the fallen angels and Heaven are powerless against them. This is because, as long as the Felix family's soul core remains intact, even if they are killed or sealed away, they can be resurrected through fire.
This fearlessness in the face of death allowed the Felix family to reap substantial benefits from foreign wars, making them, among noble families, the least negatively impacted by war.
Originally, this fearlessness of death made the Felix family highly trusted by the higher-ups of the demon realm. In every foreign war, members of the Felix family were needed to take the lead. However, as their achievements increased, the Felix family seriously squeezed out the survival of other families. Demons are not known for their good temper, but the weakened power caused by previous foreign wars made the noble families, whose strength had been diminished, dare not confront the Felix family directly.
However, the Felix family suffered a severe blow, and other noble families were not afraid to kick them while they were down. The demons had a very flexible moral bottom line. Admittedly, they were all comrades-in-arms in foreign wars, but in the face of family interests, personal feelings had to take a back seat. Suppressing the Felix family, or even completely annihilating the Felix family, would be of great benefit to those noble families.
Moreover, the Felix family's position is not irreplaceable. Even if the Felix family were to disappear, there are other special families in the Demon Realm that excel at attacking fortified positions.
Geotix said, "Gacion and I are old acquaintances, after all, we grew up in the same era, and I know him almost as well as he knows himself. It can be said that the fact that three generations of Felix family patriarchs have been hardliners is an important reason why the Felix family has come to this point. They are too selfish and always want to have it all to themselves. Little do they know that the more people share the pie, the better. Only when everyone is a partner with shared interests can such a relationship be maintained in the long run."
Furthermore, the reason why the Felix family targets the Gremory family is actually related to Vinilana. When she was young, García pursued Vinilana, but García had questionable character. Vinilana saw through this and didn't give him any chance, instead accepting Geoticx's pursuit.
It is precisely because of this that Garcin has always harbored ill will towards Geotix, a fact that Vinilana is well aware of. Moreover, the various things Garcin has done over the years have only made her dislike him even more.
Vinilana said, "The members of the Felix tribe are all too extreme in character, which makes them very passive in diplomacy. Although they always manage to gain benefits, the cost is far too high. Now, apart from a few staunch allies of the Felix tribe, who else will stand by their side? And even those staunch allies only do so because maintaining the alliance with the Felix tribe maximizes their own interests; once the Felix tribe can no longer bring them benefits, they will betray them faster than anyone else."
Unbeknownst to both Geotix and Vinilana, right above their heads, an unseen paper crane remained, observing the events unfolding within the room.
This paper crane is one of Li Wei's eyes and ears. Paper cranes like this are now found all over the Demon Realm, and Li Wei is constantly making new paper cranes to increase the number of his eyes and ears.
These paper cranes come in two control modes. The first is directly controlled by Li Wei. This manual mode is specifically designed for key targets that need to be observed. The second mode is an automatic mode. The paper crane has simple intelligence. Although it is not very smart, it has the thinking ability of a hunting dog. It can automatically collect intelligence outside and then transmit the intelligence back in the form of video recordings at regular intervals.
A manual transmission is like watching a live broadcast, while an automatic transmission is like watching a recorded video playback.
Chapter 1. The Three Major Powers of the Bible
Seeing the strange smile on Li Wei's face, Himejima Akeno said with some confusion, "Li Wei-kun, why do you smile... a little strange?"
Li Wei laughed and said, "I just remembered a joke I heard before, and suddenly realized that I have a pretty low threshold for laughter."
Li Wei casually changed the subject. The other paper crane he released had already caught up with García, the patriarch of the Felix family. He could get news of any movements from the Felix family immediately.
Li Wei said, "To be honest, the plants here in the Demon Realm are quite monotonous. You can hardly see any flowers on the wasteland. Even if there are plants that bloom, they are the kind of flowers that have become unattractive in order to adapt to such a harsh environment. It's a real pity."
Himejima Akeno laughed and said, "This is why so many demons yearn for the human world. If it weren't for the constraints of Heaven and the fallen angels, the demon race would have already entered the human world on a large scale and colonized it."
Li Wei smiled. He was well aware of Himejima Akeno's so-called colonization. He knew what kind of people the demons were. Although it wasn't depicted in the anime, from the perspective of a human with normal values, they were monsters who treated human life like dirt.
Demons would never talk about love and peace with humans. Colonization is always bloody and violent. Without Heaven, fallen angels, and other mythological systems to check and balance the demon realm, demons would be absolutely capable of doing many evil things that subvert ordinary people's values.
Anime perspectives are limited. From the protagonist's point of view, the high-ranking demons around him seem like decent people. However, there is ultimately a divide between demons and humans. Even a demon larva can easily kill a strong adult male. To demons, humans are like livestock. Without various checks and balances, demons would have already bared their fangs at humans.
Because of censorship considerations, anime often hides many truths beneath the surface, preventing viewers from seeing them. Only by truly experiencing this world firsthand and observing it with one's own eyes will one realize that what the anime depicts is merely the tip of the iceberg compared to the entirety of this world.
Having spent some time here, through his own investigation and questioning of Himejima Akeno, Li Wei has come to understand the attitudes of the three great powers of the Bible towards humanity.
Demons have a complex attitude towards humans. When they encounter individuals with potential, they will try to turn them into their own. As for the vast majority of ordinary people, they are indifferent to them like weeds. They will not cause large-scale killing unless necessary. However, if necessary, demons are capable of massacring entire cities without any psychological burden.
As for cult rituals and blood sacrifices, those are considered basic practices for demons. In the original anime storyline, the demons under Rias's command are considered a "disgrace" to their race. They show no malice towards the ordinary people who summon them, making them even more bizarre than the demons in "You're Being Summoned by Azazel."
At least, the demons in "Azazel Is Calling You" would probably have turned the human world upside down long ago if their powers hadn't been restricted by "Kazukebe the Great Demon King".
"You Are Being Summoned by Azazel" is a hilarious work that will make you laugh until your stomach hurts, but its worldview is actually the same as that of High School DxD. It is a very serious, even cruel, work disguised as comedy.
In that world, due to special restrictive spells, demons were summoned to the human world and turned into cute dolls. However, their true forms were mostly massive, mountain-like demon kings. If they were to fight in the demon realm, the collateral damage would be calculated in the tens of thousands.
If those guys were allowed to enter the human world in their true forms, the art style of that anime would instantly transform into that of Godzilla: Planet Eater.
That's why Li Wei felt that the demons under Rias's command were all part-time workers who weren't doing their jobs properly.
The demons of this world are not exactly friendly towards humanity. If it weren't for the constraints imposed by other forces, they would have already bared their fangs. However, the other two of the three major forces in the Bible aren't entirely benevolent either. Take the fallen angels, for example. Their favorite pastime is to tempt ordinary people into corruption, using this method to transform those with potential into newborn fallen angels. To the fallen angels, humanity is merely a reserve force. At the same time, humans are also toys for them, allowing them to unleash their wildly imaginative and "wonderful" ideas.

Of the three major powers in the Bible, Heaven is the one that is relatively friendly to humanity. Although in many works, Heaven is often depicted as the mastermind behind everything, in this world, Heaven is generally inclined towards the lawful good camp, and apart from a few oddballs, it doesn't have any significant flaws.
In Heaven, the God who created the Wishing Machine system has fallen. Heaven is now ruled by four high-ranking angels, who maintain the system's positive influence on the world. Many extraordinary powers in this world are related to the Wishing Machine system created by God. However, because God has fallen, the system has developed numerous bugs after many years of operation. The high-ranking angels in Heaven are now repairing and maintaining the system to ensure it doesn't have any negative impact on humanity.
This wish-granting machine system utilizes the power of faith from ordinary people, transforming the collected faith power into a special power that allows one to make a wish, achieving an effect similar to an "omnipotent wish-granting spell."
This paradise on earth provides shelter for ordinary people in many places, but most ordinary people are unaware of this.
The reason Li Wei didn't intend to bet all his chips on the demon race was because the demons in this world were not benevolent, and a few exceptions could not prove that all demons were good people.
As a human supremacist, he wouldn't have bothered coming to the demon realm if it weren't for the fact that the female protagonist and her companions were on the demon side.
However, for the sake of checks and balances and to prevent Heaven from becoming corrupted, Li Wei would not place all his bets on Heaven. The existence of demons and fallen angels also has its significance; at least their existence can ensure that Heaven does not fall and become a mountain of faith-harvesting machines that steal from its own people.
Chapter 1. You've Been Enhanced
Li Wei looked at Himejima Akeno and said, "I remember Akeno, you use the power of lightning, right?"
Himejima Akeno nodded and said, "Although I don't like the power of lightning, it's a gift from my father's bloodline, and it's quite useful."
Himejima Akeno wanted to complain that her father was a high-ranking officer in the Fallen Angel camp, but the power he used was lightning, which was only in the lower tier of exorcism abilities.
Lightning is a relatively common power in the Heaven faction, and it has a doubled ability to restrain "evil beings". Various evil beings are easily "penetrated" when facing lightning.
It is precisely because of this that her father was able to gain a great advantage in the civil war among fallen angels, as well as in battles against demons and other evil factions.
Her father was not an ordinary fallen angel, but a ten-winged fallen angel of the highest level of fallen angels. He was also a member of the fallen angel race, ranking among the top four in strength and among the top in power.
She was transformed into a demon, and other demons dared not joke about her origins because her father was someone not everyone could afford to offend. Although she was Rias's familiar, her status within the Gremory family was quite special, equivalent to that of Geotix and Vinerana's adopted daughter.
Li Wei laughed and said, "Lightning is quite useful, but Zhu Nai, would you like the ability to control flowers and plants?"
Himejima Akeno imagined herself being able to control flowers and plants, turning a barren wasteland into a sea of flowers. This beautiful scene left her somewhat stunned.
Coming to her senses, Akeno Himejima said, "Is this really possible? Ability like this must be very complicated to learn, right?"
