And a well-fed and elegant black cat, and a kitchen that's a complete mess.
In their efforts to capture Erin, old Rani and Fedor not only scattered kitchen utensils and tableware all over the floor, but also got injured.
Old Rani's left cheek was injured, and Fedor's right cheek was injured.
The two look very symmetrical.
"Sorry, my cat is a bit naughty."
Locke had already guessed what had happened. Eileen must have eaten all the seafood rice in the pot, and then the two cooks started to chase her away, which led to the current situation.
“Locke, if you are going to bring this taster again, you must abide by the kitchen rules.”
Old Rani said with a serious expression, "Here, I am the boss."
He had barely finished speaking when he reached out and slapped himself across the face.
Fedor's mouth dropped open, and he asked with concern,
"Old Rani, are you alright?"
"No, it's nothing. What happened to me just now?"
Old Rani was also stunned.
Locke coughed twice, then pulled the black cat into his arms to stop her from playing any more pranks.
He whispered,
“If I lose this job, Mick will never buy you groceries again, and you'll only be able to eat cabbage every day.”
Eileen pouted.
"I hate cabbage."
Old Rani's eyes suddenly reddened, and he excitedly grabbed Fedor.
"It must be Doris, it must be Doris. Whenever I said those words before, she would slap me without hesitation. Just now it must have been Doris's spirit. I knew she hadn't left me, she hadn't left me."
Fedor looked around nervously, his beer belly jiggling. "No way? Don't scare me."
“Foolish, Doris would never hurt me, she is the love of my life.”
Old Rani cursed.
Locke wiped the sweat from his brow. "We still have broth. How about I make some seafood rice again so we can all eat together?"
"Okay."
Fedor nodded in agreement.
“Then we need to wait until lunchtime is over. Now we should get to work. Doris loves to see me working hard.”
As he spoke, Old Rani pushed a bucket of boiled lamb into the passageway connecting the kitchen to the dining hall.
Fedor pushed a bucket over and waved to Locke, "Locke, come along."
"it is good."
Locke also pushed out a bucket of unidentified vegetables, followed by the two experienced chefs.
The black cat jumped onto his shoulder.
Locke entered the canteen and saw a group of strong temporary workers who were not wearing purple sheriff uniforms, but gray ones.
The group chatted and laughed, but when they saw the chefs arriving late, they began to complain.
"Why is dinner served so late today? Haven't they hired enough staff for the kitchen yet?"
"Old Rani, you're moving so slowly, shouldn't you retire?"
“Look, isn’t this a new face? Is he Old Rani’s new apprentice?”
"Such a gentle and delicate young man looks really nice."
Two tall, muscular men whistled at Locke, who chose to ignore them.
If they provoke him again, Locke plans to send them on their way with a longsword.
"Damn scoundrels! Shut up, or you'll miss lunch and instead eat my spittle and excrement!"
Old Rani roared and lifted the bucket lid.
The aroma of mutton filled the entire canteen, attracting the temporary workers who started jumping around excitedly.
They all gathered around Old Neil and the others.
"It smells so good, old Rani! You've finally decided to change the menu? I don't have to eat potato curry today."
"Old Rani, let me have a taste."
"Line up! You bunch of short-lived idiots! Line up! Otherwise, you'll get nothing."
Old Rani yelled at the top of his lungs. He didn't understand why the Sixth Sheriff's Court was recruiting so many thugs. In his eyes, these people were just worthless bastards who contributed nothing to society.
Although Locke found Old Rani's words somewhat harsh, he also felt they were inexplicably apt; these people's life bars were indeed very short.
They are most likely cannon fodder recruited by the magistrate's court. Some strange incidents cannot be handled entirely by investigators, so these cannon fodder are needed to pave the way, probe ahead, and provide necessary support.
As Locke pondered this, the black cat on his shoulder growled in dissatisfaction.
"What a stinky working environment."
"Well, that's how it is in places with lots of men, but it's winter now, so it should be alright."
Locke muttered to himself.
"If you had my keen sense of smell, you would find this place to be a disaster."
"It can't be any worse than the sewers in Pete Street, can it?"
Eileen proudly raised her head, refusing to discuss such topics with this pet owner who had lived in the slums for a long time; his nose was probably already broken.
Even the usually mild-mannered Fedor became serious and yelled at the temporary workers around him.
"If you don't line up now, your lunch will be canceled!"
The muscular, tough guys started lining up, pushing and shoving each other and threatening one another as they waited, making the cafeteria look just like a prison.
Locke noticed that those who were slightly thinner were basically pushed to the back.
Perhaps these people are the pitiful wretches and unlucky guys that old Rani was talking about, who had nowhere else to turn.
The team split into three groups, with Old Rani, Fedor, and Locke each responsible for distributing meals to one group.
When the mutton and broth in the large bucket were all gone, Locke felt his hands were a little sore.
This job is comparable to that of the cafeteria ladies at the school.
Old Rani's lips twitched slightly as he listened to the temporary workers' endless praise.
"You bastards, you haven't tasted truly delicious food yet. I hope you'll still be around when I recreate 90% of the flavor of this dish."
"Old Rani, if it weren't for the explicit rule against hitting cooks, your head would have been shoved up your ass long ago."
"Hey you shit, come on, let's see whose asshole blooms first."
The hot-tempered old Rani got into an argument with several dark-skinned, muscular thugs, and in the end, old Rani won. In any case, none of them dared to lay a hand on the cook.
I left the noisy cafeteria and returned to the kitchen.
Locke exhaled a breath of stale air, feeling the enthusiasm of the villains.
"Haha, Locke, you'd better get used to it quickly; it's part of our job."
Fedor said in a good mood.
Old Rani stroked his red beard and said seriously,
“Locke, you can’t be merciful to these thugs. If you show weakness, they’ll bully you in the future.”
"Ok."
Locke nodded.
After having lunch in the kitchen, Rani, Fedor, and Locke finished Locke's early shift for the day.
Georgia and Graf took over from Fedor and Locke.
Locke looked at old Rani with curiosity.
"Old Rani, aren't you going to rest?"
"I'm the head chef, so I have to stay here all the time. You'll understand when you become the head chef."
Old Rani revealed his intention to hand over the next head chef position to the prodigy young Locke.
Locke immediately waved his hand, "If I have to work year-round without rest and be on duty all the time, I refuse. I need time."
"Well, that's really too harsh on someone who hasn't been in a relationship or gotten married yet. Maybe I'll let Fedor take over after I leave the company."
"why it's not me?"
"Georgia asked."
Old Rani pointed at his eye, "A person with only one eye is not qualified to be a head chef. This is not a pirate ship."
"I don't argue with widowed people."
