Davidian's Holy Grail War

But the problems that followed were even more complicated. A snake can't function without a head, but too many heads are also a problem. There would inevitably be new struggles among the kings, each vying for their place in the future, or even for that supreme power.
And it is quite obvious that Toneric, or rather King Lothar, is eager to take a chance.
Unlike King Nantes, who was over sixty years old, they were still young and had great desires, which generated tremendous motivation.
"If it were before, probably not. But things are different now, King Nantes, people change."
The same goes for us. As time goes by, perhaps we awaken to our true selves, or perhaps we realize our mission.
That's why I came. Because sometimes, how will you know the outcome if you don't try?
The emotion in Tonelli's eyes penetrated the King of Nantes before him, and also caused Davian's expression to become complicated...
Chapter 18 But someone has a deeper plan.
Davidian barely listened to the rest of what was said. Tonelli's aggressiveness was on full display at this moment; she firmly controlled the conversation at the table and steered King Nantes in her favor.
It could even be said that if King Nantes hadn't had his own considerations as a king, he might have already firmly sided with Tonellicoe.
At the same time, he also realized the difference in vision; he was still thinking about the war and the battle with Vortigern.
Tonelli and the others were thinking about post-war Britain, who would be in power, who would rise above the rest. Perhaps that's the difference between a warrior and a leader; Davidian wouldn't be thinking about those things right now.
However, precisely because of this, he also basically realized that Vortigern's failure was inevitable. It was just a matter of who would toll his death knell. Unless Vortigern truly defied fate and succeeded.
"By the way, is this your bodyguard? He has a fine sword." King Nantes suddenly steered the conversation toward Davidian. Davidian paused for a moment, but did not reply immediately.
It wouldn't be good if I said something wrong, so I'd better let Tonelli answer.
"He's just a temporary companion. He won't pledge allegiance to me yet, so don't try to find out anything about him. Most of the time, he's practically a mute."
Tonelli was basically starting to ramble, unlike David, who was much more taciturn. But he knew that it was best for him to remain silent at this point.
"Haha. If you put it that way, then I certainly won't be rude. How are Gao Wen and the others doing lately? Their relationship with you should be pretty good, right?"
King Nantes ended the cruel topics and began to chat with Tonelli about everyday things, perhaps to get closer to him, or perhaps out of genuine concern about whether Tonelli's relationship with those people was still acceptable.
Hearing this, Toneric's face darkened. David couldn't help but steal glances at her expression, and it was clear that Toneric's expression wasn't much better.
"I'd be in a better mood if you didn't steer the conversation toward this. Are you trying to drive me crazy?"
Tonelli rarely showed this kind of anger. If this person hadn't practically watched her grow up, she would have slapped him to death right now.
But King Nantes didn't take it seriously and burst into laughter.
“You haven’t been paying much attention to these new developments lately. Gawain recently passed the trial and obtained the legendary sword, Kaledin. He’s now one of the most prominent young knights in Britain.”
This statement made Tonelli even more agitated; it wasn't that she didn't know, but rather that she knew far too much.
It was Gao Wen's destiny to obtain this sword; it was meant to be his weapon, allowing him to achieve countless feats and defeat numerous enemies in the future.
She turned her head and glanced at Davidian. Gawain was probably evenly matched with Davidian now.
It's not that Gawain wasn't strong enough, but rather that Tonelli himself couldn't clearly assess Davian's strength.
Every time she tried to use magic to find out what was going on, a deep darkness would completely erase her magic spells.
This was not from Merlin's blessing, but from the sword at David's waist.
Ever since the battle against the demonic boar, the lord of beasts, in the forest, Tonelli has been unable to discern Davian's true strength.
The sword at Davian's waist naturally prevented Tonelli from probing Davian's full power, or rather, the sword blocked his magical detection.
Because he couldn't gauge Davian's strength, Tonelli also found it difficult to say exactly how much of a gap there was between Gawain and Davian, and could only conservatively assume that the two were evenly matched.
"It's not difficult to get that sword, and it's only natural for Gawain to do so with his strength. Compared to Agravan, his strength is far superior, and he is more impeccable as a knight. If I were simply talking about the person who nurtured him, I would certainly feel a great sense of satisfaction."
Tonelli accepted King Nantes' praise of Gawain, whose outstanding strength and excellent character were undeniable facts.
"It's getting late, so stay here with me for the day. I'll have someone show you around Garrod."
King Nantes also invited Toneric to stay there for the day, as he was a guest from afar, especially given Toneric's special status. He should have taken good care of him.
But Tonelli shook his head: "I'll stay here today, but you don't need to send anyone to show me around. I can wander around on my own. After all, it's a trip for two, so there's no need for another person."
Hearing her words, King Nantes could only smile wryly. He couldn't help but sigh, "You're still the same as ever, unapproachable. Won't King Loth find you awkward?"
“He wouldn’t care about any of that.” With that, Tonelli rose and left with Davian. King Nantes watched her retreating figure, a deep, bitter smile on his face.
Just after Tonellico left, someone emerged from behind the curtain behind King Nantes. Everyone recognized this person, so he hid well, ensuring that Tonellico and Davidian didn't know he had been eavesdropping on their entire conversation.
"Oh dear, if he finds out I'm here, he'll really resent me."
This person could only be Merlin, of course. He arrived here half a day earlier than Tonellicoe and Davidian, and King Nantes had been wondering what he was doing here. But now, he understood completely.
"You are truly despicable. Once she noticed you here, she would probably tear off all her pretenses and want to throw you into the abyss. Yet you dared to hide in the back like this until now."
King Nantes really had nothing to say about Merlin's wicked character; after all, that bastard Merlin was immortal and probably old enough to be his grandfather.
"So why not just keep her in the dark? Besides, I don't really care about her. Her resentment has its reasons, but if we let her come, the situation in Britain will take a completely different turn."
In that case, world history wouldn't accept a Britain like that. Ultimately, although the island chose her, the world didn't choose Britain; the Age of Gods had come to an end.
Merlin felt no regret or pity; a single pillar cannot support a collapsing edifice. King Uther simply didn't understand this; what good was Artoria alone? It was merely a delaying tactic.
King Nantes, after hearing his words, knew what Britain's ultimate fate would be.
Unfortunately, he knew those things had nothing to do with him anymore. He knew very well that he wouldn't be able to hold on until the final outcome.
So all he could do now was lament that only Merlin could see the ending, but even the only one who saw the ending felt that such an ending was enough.
Chapter 19 Gawain
"Is he planning to sit back and watch the fight unfold? Or is he simply old and frail, so he can only place his bets after the winner emerges?"
It was only after King Nantes's men had left, and only Tonelli was by his side, that David asked this question.
He himself couldn't easily judge people's hearts; that was a matter of experience. But Tonelli was different; judging from her demeanor, she clearly understood this principle well.
Tonelli glanced at Davidian, smiled, and then replied:
“He is indeed a bit old, but not to the point of dementia. However… after hearing what you just said, do you still want to continue traveling with me? You should understand now, right? I am destined to be the enemy of the person you serve.”
This statement practically spells it all out: they will be enemies in the future, Davidian and Toneric. The two of them will one day draw their swords and fight.
This is a fact that Davidian is unwilling to acknowledge, but Tonelli is different; she is more aggressive and more direct. At this moment, she won't feign ignorance.
"Don't you ever pretend to be confused? Now I don't even know how to respond to what you're saying."
David's words were tinged with helplessness, revealing his frustration with Tonelli's bluntness.
This person was clearly not incapable of feigning ignorance; she simply consistently and intentionally projected an attitude that would lead Davidian to break his initial vow.
Tonelli shrugged, adopting an indifferent attitude that left Davidian speechless, feeling like he was being a scoundrel.
The two of them walked silently toward the accommodations arranged by King Nantes. It wasn't that Davidian didn't want to say anything, but he just felt there was no need to.
He felt that staying where he was was enough. Tonelli did want him to change, but he wasn't swayed enough.
But when the two arrived at the lodging, Tonelli was surprised to find a blond young man sitting there, wearing silver armor and a green cloak, his face as warm as the sun.
But this meeting was completely unexpected by Tonelli. How could this be? Why would he come here?
“Gawain? What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you have gone back to Orkney?” she asked instinctively, but only three seconds after she said that, Tonelli immediately realized why Gawain was here.
It seems someone is guiding him, and he can guess who it is.
Upon hearing the name Gawain, David was somewhat surprised. Was this the Gawain that King Nantes had spoken of, the one who possessed the sword Caledin?
David glanced over instinctively and, sure enough, saw the greatsword at Gawain's waist. It was a bright silver, beautiful greatsword.
The blade and hilt were both blue, and David could feel a strong power emanating from it. That sword's power should be able to rival his own dark sword.
"I originally planned to go straight back to Orkney, but last night I had a dream that told me you came here."
So I changed my plans halfway and came to Garod's. You seem to be in good health, Mother.
Gawain bowed respectfully to Tonelli and addressed her as Mother. His excellent upbringing and demeanor were truly admirable at that moment.
David, standing nearby, was completely dumbfounded.
Mother… Mother? Toneric? She’s actually the mother of this young man named Gawain? Then, how old is Toneric?
But Toneric's composure had completely crumbled. She'd barely made a move when Merlin had already shattered it. Could a mere few months of collaboration compare to such a massive revelation?
"And who is this?" Gawain then looked at David, who was standing next to Tonley, his eyes sharpening at that moment.
If his gaze was gentle like the sun shining on the earth before, then at this moment it has become that of a brave warrior.
Clearly, he noticed the dark sword at David's waist and his calloused hands. This short-haired young man was undoubtedly an excellent warrior.
"Davian, Davidan Sleeryk. Nice to meet you, Mr. Gawain. I heard you passed the trials and obtained Kaleidin; you must be an excellent knight."
Davidian seemed somewhat reserved, after all, the person in front of him was undoubtedly powerful and noble, and he was unsure whether his reply was appropriate.
Gawain smiled, his previous sharpness vanishing without a trace. He waved his hand, indicating that Davidian didn't need to be so tense.
"There's no need to address me like that; it's too distant. Since you're traveling with my mother, you must be someone worth getting to know. Let's just call each other equals."
"Yes, Gawain. You call Miss Tonerico 'mother,' so you two are mother and son?"
Gawain soothed David's nervousness, and David felt that this man's temperament was somewhat similar to Artoria.
Gawain looked surprised upon hearing this. He glanced at Toneric, but Toneric gestured for him not to say anything more. Gawain understood and remained silent.
