Chapter 244 Attracting the Enemy's Attention

Xiaoya hesitated for a moment, but quickly took the rope that Su Ting handed her.

The two men used both hands and feet to quickly climb up the tree trunk, trying to hide themselves in the dense foliage. They were completely concealed just as the enemy rushed around the corner.

"There's nothing here! Where did all these rats go?" the tall, burly man in the lead said angrily, clearly extremely dissatisfied with not finding their target immediately. "Split up and search! I don't believe they just vanished into thin air!"

Soon, the sound of rustling footsteps could be heard all around, and the beams of flashlights spread out, illuminating the dark night.

Su Ting and Xiao Ya didn't dare to breathe, their nerves on edge as they waited for the enemy's search to end. Just then, Xiao Ya accidentally knocked over a tree branch beside her, and the slight "crack" sound made both of them tense up instantly.

The tall man keenly caught the noise. "What's that sound?!" he shouted immediately. "Stop right there! Did you hear that? It's over there!"

Several beams of light shone directly in their direction. Su Ting suddenly pulled Xiao Ya closer to him, their bodies almost touching.

Fortunately, just then, a cry of surprise came from not far away: "Captain! I found some traces! It seems someone just passed by here!"

"Let's go! Let's see what's going on!" the tall man ordered, and then led several people in that direction.

Only when their footsteps faded into the distance did Su Ting breathe a slight sigh of relief and whisper to Xiao Ya, "We're safe for now, but we can't let our guard down. We need to find a way to escape as soon as possible."

"Do you have a plan?" Xiaoya asked softly, trying her best to remain calm despite her racing heart.

“Hmm.” Su Ting nodded, then slowly took out a small drone from his backpack. “I brought this on purpose; we can use it to draw the enemy’s attention. Once we have a chance, we’ll retreat quickly.”

With a flurry of fingers, the small drone silently started up and gradually rose. Su Ting remotely controlled it to the spot where the enemy had just spotted it, adjusted the angle, and began to simulate the sound of a human running.

Sure enough, it wasn't long before the enemy troops returned to their original spot and began to search the area carefully. Su Ting then whispered to Xiao Ya, "Now, follow me, and be sure to move quietly."

The two carefully moved along the tree branch to the other side, then silently slid down the tree. After landing, they crouched low and ran through the grass, speeding northward.

"We need to find a place to hide first, and we'll talk again when it's light," Su Ting said to Xiao Ya as they ran. "Have you managed to contact Qin Hao?"

"I just tried, but the signal wasn't very good," Xiaoya replied breathlessly. "I'll keep trying to contact them."

Just then, a familiar figure appeared not far ahead, quietly moving towards them. It was Qin Hao!

"It's good that we met you guys." Qin Hao greeted us in a low voice. "We've found a place to stay in an abandoned hut not far ahead. It's relatively safe there. Come with me."

The three said no more and quickly followed Qin Hao, stealthily advancing. Before long, they came upon a dilapidated brick house, surrounded by overgrown weeds, clearly an abandoned dwelling that had been uninhabited for a long time. The doorframe was half-open, and the interior was pitch black, with only a few rays of moonlight shining into the room, barely revealing a blurry outline.

Just as the group was about to enter the cabin, they suddenly heard a series of rapid footsteps in the distance—it seemed that more enemies were approaching!

Sutin immediately made a decision: "Let's go inside and block the exit from the inside. Alexander should be waiting for us inside."

As soon as he finished speaking, he pushed open the door and slipped inside. The others quickly followed and immediately closed and locked the door.

The room was silent, broken only by their rapid breathing. Xiaoya tried to re-establish contact with the person Qin Hao had lost touch with, while Qin Hao checked the doors and windows for sturdiness.

Chapter 245 Take Immediate Action

Alexander was already waiting inside. As the group entered, he whispered, "Quickly, seal the windows. The enemy may find this place soon."

Su Ting nodded and quickly began to reinforce the window with the tools he had brought. Xiao Ya assisted him, piling up some planks and miscellaneous items at the window frame to block the view from the outside.

"Qin Hao, how's the situation on your end?" Alexander asked.

"We've had a relatively smooth journey so far, but the number of enemies is greater than we expected," Qin Hao replied in a low voice. "We must find a way to leave this place as soon as possible, otherwise being surrounded will be troublesome."

At that moment, the footsteps outside the door grew closer, and low voices of conversation could be heard.

"This place looks like it's been uninhabited for a long time, but we can't let our guard down," a voice said.

"Search every corner carefully," another voice commanded. "Divide into groups and move quickly!"

Upon hearing this, everyone in the room tensed up. Su Ting quickly adjusted the drone's position, preparing to use it again to draw the enemy's attention.

"Alexander, I'll take the drone to the west in a bit to buy you some time. You guys take the opportunity to evacuate through the back door," Su Ting quickly arranged the plan.

Alexander nodded in agreement: "Good, we'll act immediately once the enemy turns around. Qin Hao, do you know the exact location of the back door?"

Qin Hao nodded: "Understood, I will lead everyone away safely."

As soon as the words were spoken, the sounds outside seemed to get closer, making everyone hold their breath.

Xiaoya gripped her phone tightly, trying to contact the outside world again. Although the signal was still unstable, she persisted in sending emergency distress signals.

She whispered to Su Ting, "I sent an encrypted message, hoping it will get through. Our current coordinates have been recorded."

Su Ting took a deep breath, activated the drone, and steered it westward. A few minutes later, the faint sound of an engine could be heard in the distance, followed by the gradual fading of heavy footsteps. Clearly, the drone had successfully drawn the enemy's attention.

"Now!" Su Ting shouted quickly, "We need to be fast!"

The group quickly traversed the dark room and, following Qin Hao's directions, found the back door. Qin Hao carefully unlocked the latch, peered outside, and, after confirming that there was no movement around, signaled to everyone that they could proceed.

"Let's go, follow me." Qin Hao took the lead and walked out the door, with the others following closely behind.

They followed a pre-scouted route, passing through a narrow alley and arriving behind a small hill. The area was overgrown with weeds and densely wooded, providing some concealment.

“We need to find a safe place to rest,” Su Ting said. “Everyone must be tired.”

Xiaoya nodded and wiped the sweat from her forehead. "I hope we can find a slightly secluded place to catch our breath. I was too nervous just now."

“There’s an old mine shaft over there; we can go in and hide for a while,” Qin Hao pointed to the shadows not far ahead. “That should be the best option right now.”

The group continued on their way and soon arrived at the mine that Qin Hao had mentioned. The entrance to the mine was almost completely hidden by vines.

Su Ting first peeked inside to make sure there was no one there for the time being before waving for everyone to enter in turn.

“Don’t speak loudly once you’re inside,” Alexander cautioned. “We need to be careful not to make any noise that might attract attention outside.”

Following their instructions, the group groped their way forward in the darkness, finally stopping to rest in a relatively spacious area. Xiaoya lit a dim flashlight, barely enough to make out each other's faces.

“We should be relatively safe now,” Su Ting said in a low voice, “but we also need to hurry up and formulate our next course of action. Do you all understand what our objective is?”

"First, we need to ensure that communications are unimpeded," Qin Hao interjected. "Only by restoring external contact can we receive subsequent support."

"So what do we do now?" Xiaoya asked.

Qin Hao glanced at the simple map in his hand: "There are several friendly outposts in this direction, not too far away. If we can break through this dangerous area, we might be able to rendezvous with them."

Chapter 246 A Good Choice

“But our current situation is not ideal,” Alexander interjected. “We are not only exhausted, but also short of weapons and ammunition. If we encounter the enemy again along the way, we may not be able to handle it.”

Su Ting nodded and added, "We must develop a sound plan as quickly as possible. Time is of utmost importance to us."

Xiaoya opened her backpack, rummaged around for a while, and took out a few energy bars and a bottle of mineral water, handing them to everyone. "Let's eat something to recover our strength first, so we can at least hold on for a while," she suggested.

"Thank you." Qin Hao took the food and ate while thinking about his next plan.

“We need to leave this area as soon as possible. According to my assessment, the friendly outposts in this direction are about ten kilometers away. If we can avoid the enemy patrols, we still have a chance.”

"So how do we determine the specific route?" Alexander asked.

Qin Hao spread the map out on a flat rock and shone it with a flashlight.

"Look, there's a valley here. Going through it will take us directly to our target location. There's a dense forest along the way that can provide some cover."

Su Ting looked at the map and nodded: "Good idea, the dense forest is indeed a good choice. We can take advantage of the night to reduce the risk of being discovered."

Alexander checked the time: "There's still some time before dark. We need to rest and recuperate during this time. We'll set off as soon as it gets dark."

“It’s settled then,” Su Ting agreed. “Let’s take this opportunity to close our eyes and rest for a while.”

Everyone agreed and found a relatively comfortable corner in the mine to sit down, trying to relax.

About an hour later, it slowly began to get pitch black outside. Qin Hao was the first to open his eyes, stood up, and gently patted Alexander beside him. "Wake up, we should go."

Everyone quickly organized their equipment and checked that their belongings and gear were intact. After confirming that everything was in order, they quietly left the mine.

As night fell, they headed north along the pre-determined route.

The shadows of the trees swayed in the forest, and the occasional rustling of leaves in the wind was enough to make one wary. However, thanks to Qin Hao's keen sense of direction and Alexander's alertness, the team did not lose their way or encounter any obstacles.

Just as they were about to cross the last stretch of dense bushes, Su Ting suddenly stopped and whispered, "Wait, there's movement!"

The group immediately stopped and scattered, each seeking cover to observe their surroundings.

After a few minutes of silence, Qin Hao slowly poked his head out of the bushes, signaling that everyone was safe for the time being, and whispered, "It should be the sound of animals moving. Everyone stay alert, follow me, and move quickly."

As they continued to move forward, the group remained highly vigilant.

Finally, as dawn approached, Qin Hao raised his fist and made a stop gesture. "The friendly camp is just ahead. Can you hear that? That sounds like the sentries changing shifts."

"That's wonderful!" Xiaoya exclaimed, unable to contain her excitement. "We've finally arrived safely!"

“Don’t let your guard down,” Alexander cautioned. “Although we’re close to the camp, we can’t rule out the possibility of an ambush. Let’s approach the entrance cautiously first.”

So, under his leadership, the five men quietly approached the perimeter of the friendly base...

Qin Hao tapped the barbed wire fence at the camp gate three times, then retreated into the shadows to await a response. A moment later, a hoarse voice came from inside: "Who goes there? Password!"

"The Big Dipper, the Pearl of the Orient," Su Ting replied immediately, which was the pre-arranged code for their meeting.

Upon hearing the correct command, the sound of metal scraping against the ground immediately came from inside the gate—clearly, the sentry was opening the gate…

Chapter 247 Vitality and Energy

The iron gate slowly opened, and a sentry carrying a rifle poked his head out. He first looked around warily, and only relaxed his guard after confirming that there was no danger.

"Come in," he waved his hand, "The commander already knows you're here. Please follow me."
