Chapter 298 Tracking Signals

“It’s too quiet here,” Su Ting said in a low voice. “Logically speaking, the enemy shouldn’t give up so easily.”

Chen Gang nodded in agreement. "I also feel something's not right. We need to be careful; there might be an ambush."

The three quickly dispersed, leaning against the wall and cautiously observing their surroundings.

They heard faint footsteps coming from the other end of the alley, and they immediately became alert.

"Did you hear that?" Chen Gang asked in a low voice.

“I heard you,” Wang Ze replied, gripping the dagger in his hand even tighter. “What should we do?”

Su Ting frowned, thought for a moment, and said, "We can't wait here. We need to find cover first."

Chen Gang nodded.

“I know there’s an abandoned warehouse up ahead. We can take shelter there for now and then decide on our next move.”

The three moved forward cautiously, trying not to make any noise.

When they arrived at the warehouse entrance, Chen Gang pushed open the dilapidated door and gestured for Su Ting and Wang Ze to go inside first.

The warehouse was pitch black, but they could barely make out the layout using night vision goggles.

There are some old boxes and miscellaneous items piled up here, which seem to have been unused for a long time.

“The environment here is favorable to us,” Su Ting said in a low voice. “Everyone can rest for a while and recover their strength.”

"Good idea." Chen Gang nodded in agreement, took out a few basic medical kits from his backpack and handed them to Wang Ze. "You have some wounds, you should treat them quickly."

Wang Ze gratefully accepted the medical kit and began to treat the abrasions on his arm. "Thank you, Brother Chen."

"Don't mention it." Chen Gang patted him on the shoulder. "This mission is very important, and we must all give it our all."

Just as the three were about to take a short rest, they suddenly heard a series of hurried footsteps outside.

They immediately tensed up and drew their weapons.

"Someone's come in!" Su Ting whispered. "Prepare for battle."

The warehouse's iron door was gently pushed open, and a dark figure slipped in silently.

Su Ting and Chen Gang simultaneously raised their pistols and aimed them in that direction.

"Who's there?" Chen Gang shouted sternly.

"It's me!" the dark figure replied in a low voice. "Zhang Ming, you're the support team member you sent."

Su Ting breathed a sigh of relief and put away his pistol. "Zhang Ming? How did you find this place?"

Zhang Ming, panting heavily, stepped forward and said, "We tracked the signal here and then discovered this warehouse. Headquarters sent me to check out the situation first."

"Has headquarters sent someone to meet us?" Su Ting pressed.

"Yes, they are already on their way and should arrive within ten minutes," Zhang Ming replied.

Su Ting nodded. "Okay, let's hold this place for now and make further plans when reinforcements arrive."

"Understood," Zhang Ming replied. He took a small locator out of his pocket and placed it in a corner of the warehouse. "This way, backup can quickly find us."

Wang Ze stood up, still clutching the bandage in his hand. "So what should we do now?"

"Stay calm and wait for reinforcements," Su Ting replied. "At the same time, we must keep a close eye on the surrounding situation and ensure our safety."

Zhang Ming walked to the door, locked the iron gate again, and added several more locks on top of it.

“I have already set some traps outside, and if any enemies get close, they will trigger the alarm system immediately.”

“Well done,” Su Ting praised. “It’s so good to have you here.”

Just then, footsteps sounded outside the door again, and everyone held their breath, waiting anxiously.

"Has the enemy already detected our location?" Wang Ze asked in a low voice.

Su Ting shook his head. "I don't know, but we have to prepare for the worst."

Chen Gang gripped his gun tightly, his eyes fixed on the crack in the door. "No matter what, we must hold this place and protect this data."

"Who's outside?" Su Ting asked in a low voice, his eyes fixed on the crack in the door, his finger slightly on the trigger.

Chen Gang took a deep breath, gently pushed open the small window on the door, and tried to see the situation outside by the faint light of the night vision goggles.

Suddenly, a dark shadow flashed across his field of vision. He immediately became alert, but did not take immediate action. Instead, he continued to observe.

"There's movement," Chen Gang said softly, then turned to look at the others. "Get ready, we don't know if it's the enemy."

Zhang Ming nodded, quickly picked up a submachine gun beside him, and checked the magazine.

"I'm ready. If anything seems amiss, I'll open fire immediately."

Wang Ze also gripped the dagger tightly in his hand, his eyes firm yet tense.

Although his injuries have not been fully treated, he still stood upright and stood aside, ready to deal with any potential dangers.

The footsteps outside the door grew closer, and everyone's heartbeats became unusually heavy at that moment.

Time seemed to stretch out infinitely, and every second felt exceptionally long.

Suddenly, a soft metallic clanging sound came from outside the door, followed by an almost inaudible whisper.

"Did you hear that?" Su Ting asked in a low voice, almost inaudible.

"I heard it, it sounds like someone is talking," Zhang Ming replied, his palms slightly sweaty as he gripped the gun barrel tightly.

Just then, a voice came from outside the warehouse, clear and urgent.

"Su Ting, it's me! Open the door quickly, we're the support troops!"

Upon hearing the voice, a hint of surprise flashed in Su Ting's eyes. "It's the captain?! How did you find this place?"

Su Ting and Chen Gang exchanged a glance, then cautiously walked towards the door.

Chen Gang opened a small window on the iron gate and saw several familiar figures standing outside.

Indeed, leading the group was their captain, Li Hua. Behind Li Hua were several fully armed team members, each looking tired but with a determined expression.

Su Ting quickly unlatched the door and let Li Hua and his team in.

"That's great, you've come at the perfect time!" Su Ting breathed a sigh of relief and greeted Li Hua.

"You've worked hard." Li Hua nodded, looked around to make sure the situation was safe, and then said to Su Ting and the others.

“We encountered some trouble on the way, but fortunately, we have all made it here now.”

"What happened?" Chen Gang asked, a hint of worry in his eyes.

Li Hua sighed and said in a heavy tone.

"The enemy outnumbered us more than we expected, and their equipment was also very advanced. We finally managed to break through the blockade to get here."

"How's the data? Make sure it's safe?" Li Hua looked at Su Ting with concern in his eyes.

"The data is here." Su Ting took out the precious little box from his bag and handed it to Li Hua.

Li Hua took the data box, carefully inspected it, and breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that it was intact.

"That's good. We can't stay here too long; the enemy might track us down soon. We need to leave immediately."

Chen Gang nodded. "Okay, we will proceed according to your plan."

Li Hua turned and walked towards the door, instructing his team members to begin setting up an evacuation route.

"Everyone get ready, and move quickly. Our helicopter is waiting five kilometers away."

Su Ting turned to look at Wang Ze, patted him on the shoulder and said, "Let's go, we must leave here as soon as possible."

Wang Ze nodded, tidied up his equipment, and followed Su Ting's pace.

Just as they were about to leave, a commotion arose outside the door, as if a group of people were approaching the warehouse.

"Everyone stop! There seems to be some noise outside!" Chen Gang shouted alertly, immediately raising his weapon.

"Is it an enemy?" Su Ting asked, frowning, his gaze once again locking onto the crack in the door.

Li Hua quickly signaled his team members to stop, and everyone immediately went on alert.

He whispered, "Don't fire, observe the situation first."

Chen Gang approached the door again, carefully observing the outside movements through the crack in the door and the night vision goggles.

After a moment, he said softly, "They have a considerable number of people, are well-equipped, and don't look like ordinary enemies."

"It could be another enemy force," Zhang Ming added nervously.

Li Hua frowned and pondered for a moment, then suddenly his eyes lit up.

"Wait, if they were really the enemy, they would have attacked long ago. I think they might be friendly forces or civilians."

Su Ting nodded. "You're right. We need to be careful, but we also need to be prepared to deal with any emergencies."
