Xiao Liu clutched his backpack tightly to his chest, his eyes flashing with tension and suspicion. Su Ting glanced out the window; the city's night view flashed past the car window as they sped away from the scene.
“Alright, we’ll trust you for now, but you have to guarantee our safety,” Su Ting said in a deep voice.
“Don’t worry, this is my responsibility,” Li Ming replied. “Now, I want you to tell me exactly what that sample tube you have is, and how you obtained it.”
Su Ting remained silent for a moment, but ultimately decided to trust the man before him. "It was a blood sample containing an unknown virus, which we found in an abandoned laboratory. We suspect it's a new type of biological weapon."
Li Ming's expression turned serious: "This is more serious than we imagined. We must send it to a research institution for analysis as soon as possible."
The car sped along and finally stopped in front of an inconspicuous building. Li Ming led Su Ting and the others into the building and into a heavily guarded office. A middle-aged man in uniform was waiting there, his eyes firm and steady.
“I am Chen Gang, deputy director of the State Security Bureau. Mr. Li has already reported your situation to me,” Chen Gang said. “I can guarantee that this place is absolutely safe.”
Su Ting looked at the deputy director and breathed a slight sigh of relief. He handed the sample to Chen Gang, who carefully placed it into a sealed container.
“We will immediately conduct a detailed analysis of this sample and take appropriate measures,” Chen Gang said. “But before that, you need to rest here for a while and wait for further instructions.”
Su Ting nodded, knowing full well that the battle had only just begun. Xiao Liu and the others were also moved to the next room to rest; everyone looked exhausted.
A few hours later, Chen Gang reappeared before everyone, his face showing a hint of solemnity.
"Preliminary test results show that the sample is indeed a novel biochemical virus. We need more time to confirm its nature and transmission route."
"What should we do next?" Su Ting asked.
“We will send a professional team to the laboratory where you were before to thoroughly investigate all the clues there.”
Chen Gang said, "At the same time, we also need to protect your safety to prevent the enemy from attacking again."
Su Ting nodded; he knew the importance of this mission. He turned to look at his team members, whose eyes were all filled with determination.
"No matter what happens, we must persevere to the end," Su Ting said firmly. "We are doing this not only for ourselves, but also for the entire country."
Chapter 473 Late-Night Secret Talk
As night fell, the city gradually drifted into slumber in silence.
Inside the unassuming building, a tense atmosphere still enveloped everyone. After Deputy Director Chen Gang left, Su Ting and the others were taken to a temporary lounge to await further instructions.
Xiao Liu leaned back on the sofa, his eyes unfocused, seemingly recalling everything that had just happened. "Captain, can we really trust the National Security Bureau?" he asked softly, a hint of uncertainty in his voice.
Su Ting looked at him with unwavering eyes. "Now, we have no other choice. Since we've come this far, we can only trust them."
Zhang Tao chimed in, "But what's with Li Ming? His sudden appearance and his escape from danger seem too coincidental."
“Perhaps he really did come to help us,” Ah-Qiang said. “If it weren’t for him, we might already be in the enemy’s hands.”
“But in any case, we must remain vigilant,” Su Ting cautioned. “This matter is far more complex than we imagined.”
Just then, a soft footstep sounded outside the door, and everyone immediately became alert. Li Ming pushed the door open and entered, holding several documents in his hand, his expression serious.
"Latest update." He walked up to the group and handed them the documents. "We found some clues in the surveillance footage near the lab."
"What clue?" Su Ting asked immediately.
“There were a few people loitering around the lab,” Li Ming explained. “They entered the lab after you left, and they were obviously also looking for that sample tube.”
"Who are these people?" Su Ting pressed.
"Our initial assessment is that they are likely agents sent by an international biological weapons research institution," Li Ming said in a deep voice. "They may have been keeping an eye on this laboratory for a long time."
"What should we do now?" Xiao Liu asked anxiously.
“We need to develop a detailed action plan as soon as possible to ensure the safe transfer of samples and to locate the whereabouts of these people,” Li Ming replied.
"What is the specific action plan?" Su Ting looked at Li Ming with sharp eyes.
“First, we need to strengthen the defenses here to ensure everyone’s safety.” Li Ming paused, then continued, “Then, we will send a small team back to the original laboratory to gather more clues.”
“Alright, I will lead the team myself,” Su Ting said without hesitation. “We cannot allow the enemy to take advantage of the situation.”
"Captain, you need to be careful too." Xiao Liu looked at Su Ting with concern.
“Don’t worry, we’re prepared.” Su Ting patted him on the shoulder, then turned to Li Ming. “We need more details about these people’s actions and their organizational background.”
Li Ming nodded in agreement: "I will contact headquarters immediately to obtain more information."
Just as they were having a heated discussion, there was a knock on the door. Zhang Tao got up to open it and saw a staff member in uniform standing in the doorway.
"Mr. Su, Deputy Director Chen requests your presence in his office," the staff member said politely.
Su Ting nodded, got up and walked towards the door. "Okay, I'll be right there."
"Captain, be careful in everything," A-Qiang instructed.
"No problem, I'll be back soon," Su Ting replied, then followed the staff out of the lounge.
In Chen Gang's office, the lights were dim. Chen Gang was sitting at his desk, on which a map was spread out, marked with several key points.
"Mr. Su, please come in." Chen Gang's voice was calm and firm.
Su Ting walked into the office, closed the door, and sat down opposite Chen Gang. "Deputy Director, is there any new progress?"
“There’s some important information.” Chen Gang pushed the map toward Su Ting. “We just intercepted a communication from the enemy. They seem to know the sample is here.”
"So fast?" Su Ting frowned.
“Therefore, we must take action to ensure the safety of the samples,” Chen Gang said. “I have already assembled a special operations team, ready to raid the enemy stronghold before dawn.”
Chapter 474 Prepare for the Worst
“Okay, I understand,” Su Ting nodded. “Then we need to act immediately.”
Chen Gang nodded.
“I’ve already arranged the vehicles and equipment. You’ll lead your squad with Li Ming. This operation is crucial; we must strike decisively.”
"Understood." Su Ting stood up. "I will do my best."
He turned to leave the office when Chen Gang suddenly called out to him, "Mr. Su, wait a moment."
Su Ting stopped and turned to look at Chen Gang.
"This mission is very dangerous, and you should prepare for the worst."
Chen Gang said solemnly, "Make sure everyone understands this."
“We understand,” Su Ting said firmly. “We will do our best to complete the mission, but we will also ensure the safety of our team members.”
Stepping out of the office, Su Ting felt an inexplicable pressure.
Back in the lounge, Li Ming was discussing specific action plans with the other team members.
Upon seeing Su Ting enter, everyone immediately stopped talking and turned to look at him.
“The situation has changed, and we need to act quickly,” Su Ting said directly.
"What happened?" Zhang Tao asked.
"The enemy already knows that the samples are in our hands and may take action soon."
Su Ting explained, "Deputy Director Chen has already assembled a special operations team. We need to launch a surprise attack on the enemy's stronghold before dawn."
"So how should we divide the work?" A-Qiang asked.
"Xiao Liu and A Qiang, you two stay here and assist the National Security Bureau in strengthening the defenses here to ensure the safety of the other samples."
Su Ting said, "Zhang Tao and I followed Li Ming to raid the enemy's stronghold."
Xiao Liu looked at A-Qiang somewhat uneasily, "Captain, isn't this too risky?"
"Don't worry, we are well prepared," Li Ming reassured him. "The National Security Bureau will provide full support."
Su Ting patted Xiao Liu on the shoulder, "We'll be careful, and you all need to do a good job of defense here."
The group quickly split up. Su Ting and Zhang Tao followed Li Ming to the equipment room to collect their combat gear. Everyone silently checked their weapons and equipment; the atmosphere was tense and serious.
Shortly after, several black SUVs pulled up at the gate. Su Ting and his team quickly boarded the vehicles, and the convoy sped away, disappearing into the night.
"Where are we going now?" Zhang Tao asked.
"According to intercepted communications, one of the enemy's temporary strongholds is located in an abandoned factory."
Li Ming replied, "We need to take control of them before they move."
The convoy sped through the night, with sirens blaring along the way, clearly indicating that special forces were on alert.
Before long, the convoy arrived at its destination. The abandoned factory looked particularly eerie in the darkness. Su Ting gestured for everyone to get out of the vehicles and began assigning tasks.
"Zhang Tao, you take one group and enter through the main gate. Li Ming and I will lead another group to flank from the side," Su Ting instructed in a low voice. "Remember, be extremely cautious and don't alert them."
"Yes!" Zhang Tao responded, leading several team members toward the main gate.
Su Ting and Li Ming, along with a few others, carefully circled around to the flank.
They stopped beside a dilapidated wall and carefully observed their surroundings.
"Is everything ready?" Su Ting asked in a low voice.
“We are ready and can act at any time,” Li Ming replied.
Su Ting nodded, signaling everyone to prepare their equipment, and then gave the order: "Move out!"
As soon as the order was given, everyone rushed into the abandoned factory, and bursts of gunfire echoed through the night sky.
