Just then, one of the men in black suddenly turned around and noticed their presence. He shouted in terror, "Someone's there!"
The other men in black immediately drew their weapons, ready to fight. Su Ting rushed forward without hesitation, brandishing his longsword and engaging in fierce combat. Kevin, Lena, Leah, and Aiden also quickly joined the battle, each utilizing their own strengths.
The battle lasted for several minutes, and eventually, the men in black were driven back one by one. Su Ting only breathed a sigh of relief after confirming that they were far away.
“Let’s go back,” Su Ting said.
Back in the village, the villagers surrounded them to express their gratitude. The village chief was especially thankful: "Thanks to you all, otherwise our village might have suffered a terrible fate."
“This is what we should do,” Su Ting said with a smile.
"Alright, we need to rest now, we have to keep traveling tomorrow," Kevin reminded them.
“That’s right, get some rest and we’ll set off tomorrow,” Su Ting said.
They returned to the inn and went back to their rooms to rest. Su Ting lay on the bed, closed his eyes, and felt a surge of hope. He knew that as long as they stood together, no difficulty was insurmountable.
"Everything will be alright," Su Ting said silently to himself.
The next morning, as the first rays of sunlight appeared on the horizon, Su Ting led his companions on their journey once more. They strode confidently into the distance, new challenges awaiting them.
Su Ting and his group packed their belongings, bid farewell to the innkeeper and the village chief, and continued on their way to their next destination. Sunlight shone through the sparse clouds, bringing them new hope and energy.
“Last night we were almost caught off guard by those men in black,” Kevin said as he walked at the back of the group.
"Fortunately, we were all well-prepared," Lena replied with a smile. "However, we still need to be careful; the journey ahead may be even more dangerous."
Chapter 927 Rolling Hills
“Yes, Alexander once said there are several dangerous places around here,” Aiden said. “We need to stay vigilant at all times.”
They walked along a winding path, flanked by dense woods and rolling hills. Occasionally, birdsong drifted from the depths of the forest, adding a touch of life to the scene. Su Ting walked in front, occasionally turning back to remind his companions to be careful.
"Su Ting, what do you think we'll encounter next?" Lia asked.
“I don’t know, but we must be prepared for anything,” Su Ting replied. “After all, our mission is not simple.”
“That’s right,” Lena agreed. “No matter what difficulties we encounter, we must not back down.”
Just then, a strange sound came from ahead. Su Ting immediately stopped and signaled everyone to take cover.
"What was that sound?" Kevin asked softly.
"It sounds like an animal's cry," Aiden replied softly.
Su Ting cautiously peeked out and saw a huge beast roaring not far ahead. It was several meters long, with thick fur, and its eyes gleamed with ferocity.
"What kind of monster is this?" Lena asked in surprise.
“I don’t know either,” Su Ting said, frowning. “But we can’t let this thing block our way.”
"Then what do we do?" Leah asked.
"Kevin, take Leah and retreat a bit, find a safe place to stay," Su Ting instructed.
"Okay, be careful." Kevin nodded and led Leah back.
"Aiden, can you handle such a beast?" Su Ting asked Aiden beside him.
“No problem, I’ll distract it, and you guys attack while I’m at it,” Aiden said confidently.
Aiden rushed forward, shouting loudly to attract the attention of the giant beast. The beast roared and pounced on Aiden. Aiden nimbly dodged, attacking its vitals with his dagger as he did so.
"Attack!" Su Ting shouted, rushing forward with Lena.
Su Ting, sword in hand, aimed for the beast's eye and thrust. The beast roared in agony, violently shaking its head and slamming Su Ting aside. Taking advantage of the moment, Lena leaped up and struck the beast in the neck with a magic arrow, but it seemed largely unaffected and continued its frenzied attack.
"This guy is too strong!" Lena exclaimed.
“We need to find a way to solve this,” Su Ting said.
Just then, Aiden suddenly noticed a prominent wound on the giant beast's abdomen, from which blood was flowing continuously. He had a flash of inspiration and shouted to Su Ting, "Su Ting, attack its wound!"
Su Ting immediately understood. He quickly adjusted his direction and thrust his sword with all his might into the giant beast's wound. The longsword pierced deep into the wound, and the giant beast let out a miserable cry before collapsing with a thud.
"Well done!" Kevin and Leah ran over and exclaimed in admiration upon seeing the scene.
"We need to get out of here quickly," Su Ting said, wiping the sweat from his brow.
“Yes, let’s get going before it recovers,” Aiden said.
The group quickly left the area and continued towards their next destination. The sun rose higher, and the scenery along the way became increasingly spectacular. But Su Ting knew that this journey was far from over, and more challenges awaited them.
"Where are we going next?" Lena asked.
“We need to find the next camp first, and then determine the next direction,” Su Ting replied.
Chapter 928 A Strange Sound
“I hope we can get there soon,” Leah said.
"Yes, we will definitely arrive safely," Su Ting said firmly.
They quickened their pace, their hearts filled with anticipation and determination. Although the road ahead was long, they believed that as long as they were united, nothing was insurmountable.
As they were passing through a dense forest, they suddenly heard a strange sound coming from ahead. Su Ting immediately stopped and looked ahead warily.
"What's going on now?" Kevin asked in a low voice.
"I don't know, but it's definitely not a good thing," Su Ting said.
“We have to go check it out,” Lena said.
"Okay, everyone be careful," Su Ting nodded.
They moved forward cautiously, preparing to face a new challenge.
They cautiously made their way through the dense forest, the sound growing ever closer. Su Ting gestured for everyone to stop, then whispered, "Listen, what's that sound?"
"It sounds like...crying?" Leah whispered, a hint of worry flashing in her eyes.
"Could they be people in danger?" Lena frowned. "We have to go and rescue them."
“That’s right,” Su Ting nodded, “but we must be careful. Any sound here could be a trap.”
They continued walking and soon saw a figure crouching under a tree, her shoulders heaving, seemingly a girl crying. Su Ting immediately took a few steps forward and asked in a low voice, "Are you alright?"
The girl looked up, her face streaked with tears; she appeared quite young. "I...I've gotten separated from my family," she choked out. "My name is Annie. Can you help me find my family?"
Lena felt a pang of pity for Annie's pitiful state. "Of course we can, but it's dangerous here right now. We have to get you out of here first," she said gently.
Su Ting frowned, carefully observing his surroundings, a sense of foreboding creeping into his heart. "This is so sudden, Annie, what are you doing here?"
Anne sobbed, “When my family and I were passing through this forest, we encountered a group of wild animals. Everyone scattered and ran away, and I accidentally fell and got separated from the group.”
“Okay, then come with us first,” Su Ting said, “but please remember, no matter what happens, don’t leave our side.”
Annie nodded and followed closely behind them. Kevin and Leah were responsible for keeping watch around in case of any sudden attacks by people or animals.
The group continued onward, the atmosphere growing somewhat heavy. After walking for about ten minutes, an open area appeared ahead. Sunlight shone brightly on the ground. Just then, Su Ting noticed some tiny footprints on the ground, and these footprints seemed to be facing in opposite directions.
“Wait a minute,” Su Ting stopped and looked down to examine the footprints carefully. “The footprints here are a bit strange. They look like they were left on purpose.”
"What's wrong?" Lena asked, her expression turning serious.
“These footprints might have been left on purpose to mislead us.” Su Ting looked up at Annie. “How did you get here? I remember you just said that you got separated when you were escaping.”
Annie's expression turned somewhat flustered. "I...I don't know how to say it."
Aiden suddenly drew his weapon and stood warily beside Su Ting. "Who are you? Why are you following us?"
Chapter 929 I Was Forced into It
Faced with everyone's questioning, Annie finally broke down, crying out, "I'm sorry! I was forced to follow you! They threatened to kill my parents if I didn't lead them to you!"
Su Ting and his teammates exchanged glances, knowing this was a meticulously planned conspiracy. Just then, a slight rustling sound came from the surrounding woods, followed by several masked men rushing out from all directions.
"You're surrounded!" one of the masked men shouted. "Hand over what you have, or don't blame us for being impolite!"
Su Ting gripped his longsword tightly, his eyes scanning the surroundings, searching for an opening. "It seems we have no choice but to fight."
Aiden had already taken his stance, ready to face the enemy. "Suting, you take Leah and Lena and retreat. Kevin and I will hold them off here."
“No,” Su Ting said firmly, “We are a team, and we will face this crisis together.”
The words had barely left his lips when the two clashed. With his agile movements and superb swordsmanship, Su Ting weaved through the crowd with ease, each strike accurately hitting his opponent's vitals. At the same time, Lena unleashed her magical arrows, shooting them with pinpoint accuracy, catching her completely off guard.
After a fierce battle that lasted for a while, the masked men finally began to retreat, no longer daring to approach. Seeing this, the leader of the masked men glared fiercely at Su Ting and the others, "You may have won today, but this is only the beginning. We will definitely be back!"
As he left, the masked men around him also dispersed, leaving behind only a silent forest. Su Ting turned to look at Annie, "You're safe now. You can tell us where your family is, and we'll help you find them."
Anne nodded gratefully, tears welling up in her eyes again. "Thank you so much. I don't know what I would have done without you."
“Don’t say that,” Lena comforted her with a smile. “We are all family, and we will always help each other.”
"Yes, thank you..." Annie said, sobbing.
“Alright,” Su Ting clapped his hands, “we can’t stay here too long, we need to find a safe place to rest quickly.”
"Where are we going now?" Leah asked curiously.
"Let's find a place to settle down first, and then plan our next step," Su Ting said, leading everyone on their journey once again.
