Su Ting suddenly opened his eyes, realizing that a part of his memory had been forcibly interrupted. It wasn't a simple replay of the past, but a crucial point that someone had deliberately hidden.
“Su Ting…” He came to his senses and wanted to ask more, but found that the person was no longer beside him.
Only a few strands of silver-gray hair were stirred up by the wind.
Qin Ran frowned and said in a low voice, "That guy Su Ting is probably going to go through the main storyline on his own."
"Wait!" Su Ting rushed out immediately, but the person's figure had already disappeared among the ruins.
As the torrential rain poured down, Su Ting stood amidst the ruins of the devastated city, the words still echoing in his ears: "Do you think you are fighting against fate? But you are already deeply entangled in the web of fate."
He looked down at his palms, his cold fingertips still seeming to retain the warmth of that memory.
Leah... am I just a part of him? Just a substitute?
"No," he growled inwardly, "I am no one's shadow."
"What are you saying to yourself?" A familiar voice came from behind.
Su Ting turned around abruptly and saw Cheng Yuan standing atop the ruins of a collapsed tower. Energy chains were wrapped around his shoulders, and behind him lay a shattered city and churning dark clouds.
"What are you doing here?!" He instinctively took a step back.
“You shouldn’t doubt Su Ting.” Cheng Yuan slowly walked down the stone steps. “Every decision he made was just to give us a chance to start over.”
“Start over?” Su Ting’s voice rose. “What do you take me for? An experimental subject, a tool, or a vessel of hope? Who am I, really?!”
Cheng Yuan stopped in front of him, his eyes filled with a complex yet resolute expression.
“You are not a substitute, nor a copy. You are the end of the ‘Leah’s Consciousness Fission Project’, and the only survivor—you carry all of Leah’s emotional fluctuations, choices of will, and even… his regrets.”
Su Ting's eyes widened, his lips trembling slightly: "This is impossible... You all said the plan had failed long ago!"
“It wasn’t a failure,” Cheng Yuan said in a low voice, “it was just not a complete failure.”
"What do you mean?"
"Back then, Leah fell into data dormancy due to a system malfunction, and Su Ting tried to forcibly revive her. But as a result... her core personality split. We had to peel off a complete segment of her personality and seal it into a new vessel—you."
Su Ting's fingers clenched into a tight fist, his nails digging into his palms without him noticing: "So... I'm not me, I'm his copy?"
“No.” Cheng Yuan grabbed his arm. “You are you. Because he chose a future he had never had and gave it to you. And that future… the humanity, weakness, and struggles he couldn’t face became your starting point.”
Suddenly, a violent explosion rang out in the distance, and a beam of blue light shot into the sky.
Qin Ran's communicator rang:
[This is battlefield area C3. Enemy entities have breached the third line of defense! Repeat, the enemy is approaching the main storyline entry point!]
"Oh no, Su Ting went there alone!" Cheng Yuan's expression changed drastically.
Su Ting snapped back to his senses and ran without hesitation toward the direction of the explosion, roaring as he ran:
"Don't tell me he's planning to rewrite everything with his own life again!"
Cheng Yuan caught up and shouted, "He said that the outcome of this round must be changed. Only you can truly awaken Leah's core memories."
"How can I wake up? I don't even know what I am anymore!!" he screamed, stumbling and falling in the muddy ruins before quickly getting back up.
Chapter 984 Are You Crazy?
The rain fell in torrents.
When Su Ting finally arrived at the entrance to that distorted space, he saw a time rift that was almost torn apart. Countless streams of data swept across the sky and earth like a raging storm, and at the center of the rift, Su Ting was kneeling on the ground, his chest covered in blood.
Su Ting rushed forward to support him: "Are you crazy! You knew this was a dead end, yet you still barged in!"
Su Ting gasped for breath, a bitter smile playing on his lips: "If I don't come in, you won't be able to."
"What do you mean?" Su Ting gritted his teeth.
"The timeline is collapsing." He raised the terminal, projecting a completely new image—
Those were Leah's last memories before she was sealed away.
In the video, the girl is sitting alone in the control room, with a man in a white protective suit sitting next to her; this man is Su Ting.
He took his hand and said softly:
"I'm sorry, I can only save you this once. But next time... if there is a next time, I want you to meet yourself."
The girl nodded, her eyes devoid of tears, yet brimming with boundless tenderness.
Then he closed his eyes.
Su Ting stared at the screen for a long time, feeling as if someone was choking him.
"Was it voluntary? Did he deliberately tear himself apart, trapping himself in an eternal cycle of reincarnation?! Why?"
Cheng Yuan slowly said from the side, "He said that if we didn't do this, we would all die at that moment. He wanted us to live so that we could find the real answer."
Su Ting's breathing quickened, and anger, resentment, and an indescribable pain welled up in his eyes.
"You're all making all the decisions for him! Nobody asked me if I wanted to be that person!!"
He suddenly looked up at Su Ting, tears mingling with the rain as they streamed down his cheeks.
"I'm asking you! You say I can break the cycle, is it because of whose choice I made, or because I can actually do it?"
Su Ting looked at him quietly and smiled with difficulty: "You asked the wrong question."
Su Ting was taken aback.
He raised his blood-stained hand and gently touched his forehead:
"The one who can break the cycle... is you now. Not the Leah of the past, not our hope, but you—you who are willing to believe that you can make different choices."
“…I don’t believe it.” He shook his head, tears streaming down his face. “I don’t want to bear such a heavy fate.”
"Then don't believe in fate." He smiled, the light in his eyes dimming. "Only believe in yourself."
The last scene is darkness, and when you open your eyes again, it's empty.
Su Ting has disappeared.
Only his terminal remained, floating in mid-air, emitting its final line of text—
[Initiating the final option: Reboot or Destruction. The choice is yours, 'Free Will'.]
Su Ting stared at the string of flashing codes, his voice trembling as he spoke:
"Is this the 'gift' you left for me?"
After a moment of silence, he gritted his teeth, extended his bloodied finger, and pressed a button on the terminal:
"I don't know if I have free will... but I can at least try once."
The terminal suddenly lit up, and the entire sky seemed to tremble.
A blurry figure appeared at the edge of the crack; it was someone who didn't belong to this time, someone who was also the original him.
Leah said softly, "You've finally come."
Su Ting raised his head, his eyes sharp as knives:
"What do you want to say to me? I don't want to hear any more about the past."
Leah smiled:
"Alright, let's talk about the battles to come."
"You've seen everything, haven't you?" Leah's voice was gentle yet carried an undeniable power.
Chapter 985 Don't try that.
Su Ting snorted coldly, "Yes. You've treated me as your last card, a trump card to break the vicious cycle."
“I am not.” Leah took a step, as if each step was on his heartbeat. “I have been waiting for you, not to fulfill my wish, but... to let you decide your own fate.”
Su Ting frowned: "Don't give me that. You think I'll be moved to tears by a few nice words? Every single one of you is using 'future' and 'responsibility' to strangle me, not even sparing the dead!"
Lia looked at him, a cryptic expression appearing in her eyes, a mixture of sadness and relief.
"So, what exactly is the purpose of your trip here?" he asked.
"I want to end all of this with my own hands."
"Ha!" Su Ting sneered. "Do you really think you're a savior? You think a simple 'free will' will make me put aside all my doubts and take the consequences for you? Don't be ridiculous."
“I never asked you to take responsibility.” Leah’s tone was calm, but a sharp glint flashed in her eyes. “I said that I chose to give up the part of Su Ting that was human, vulnerable, and struggling. But you now—you are the real human being.”
The air seemed to freeze for a moment.
"So?" Su Ting slowly uttered two words.
Leah stretched out her hand, and a crystal-clear data sphere appeared in the void: "This is the last fragment of my memory, and also the key information that was blocked in the main program. Only you can decipher it, because you are the only one who truly possesses 'human emotions'."
"If what you're saying is true, then why did you seal yourself away in the first place? Why didn't you give me complete clues? Why did you make everything so dramatic!" Su Ting's voice was filled with anger and exhaustion.
“Because I don’t want to make any more mistakes.” Leah finally showed a hint of emotion. “I know I’m too rational, too cold-blooded. I don’t dare to gamble, and I don’t dare to make any more decisions. So I sealed myself in the core of the program, waiting for the day when… a real ‘person’ can come here and help me draw the end line.”
Su Ting was stunned.
“You think…you can control me, right? Just like everyone else?” He suddenly laughed, but the laugh was utterly cold. “But you’re wrong.”
