Chapter 1257 The Body Gradually Becomes Transparent
He raised his hand and inserted the stardust pen into the groove in the center of the gear.
In an instant, a burst of light shot into the sky.
Blue lines spread along the gears, and the entire glass forest began to tremble. Cracks appeared on the glass, and light and shadow spilled out—some transformed into birds, some into shooting stars, and some were just a gentle breeze, yet they carried laughter.
"Xiaoyue!" Qiming suddenly shouted.
He saw the glass engraved with "Light Chaser" shattering, and the little girl inside looked up and smiled at him.
She opened her mouth and silently said, "I've waited for you, I've come a long way."
Qiming rushed over and reached out to catch the light.
Su Ting stood in the center of the gears, his body gradually becoming transparent. His memories were being ripped away—he forgot his mother's face, forgot the summer he first met Meng Li, forgot why he picked up this pen in the first place…
But he still remembered one thing.
“My name is Su Ting,” he said softly, his voice carried away by the wind. “I… am a dreamer.”
Suddenly, the little girl reached out and gently pressed her hand against his chest.
“Don’t rush to hand it over,” she said. “You still have one last step to take.”
She turned her head and looked up at the abyss above—the new clock tower in the clouds, the clock face fully formed, countless faceless mouths whispering in unison, as if counting down.
"It's about to wake up," Qi Sanjiu murmured.
The little girl smiled slightly: "Then we'll... wake it up."
She grabbed Su Ting's hand and held the star-shaped pen high.
“Listen!” she shouted into the abyss, “All the dreams that haven’t been completely erased—all the dreams that are still waiting for someone to come and take them away—all the dreams that don’t believe that ‘happiness should be prescribed’!”
"Now—scream with me!"
In an instant, 327 beams of light shot into the sky, weaving into a giant net that pointed directly at the clouds.
Su Ting felt his heart pounding—not because of pain, but because of… resonance.
The blue light at the tip of the pen surged, turning his blood into starlight.
"It's not over yet," he murmured. "This is just the beginning."
Qiming, holding Xiaoyue's remaining light, looked up at him and asked, "What's next?"
Su Ting smiled, raised his pen, and pointed to the sky:
"Next—we're going to smash the clock tower."
"Smashed the clock tower?" Qiming murmured, as if he had heard the most absurd joke. "Do you know what that was? That was the heart of the 'Source Law'! The foundation of the entire dream world! It wasn't just a metal frame; it was the law itself taking form!"
Su Ting stood at the apex of the giant ship, the stardust pen inserted into the center of the gears, blood crawling along the metal grooves, transforming into streaks of blue light runes. His voice was calm, almost cold:
"Then smash the laws as well."
The wind swept in from all directions through the glass forest, carrying the whispers of three hundred and twenty-seven lingering dreams. Every ray of light trembled, as if learning to breathe for the first time. Xiaoyue's figure curled up in Qiming's arms, only a sliver of light remaining, yet she still gently raised her hand to caress his face.
She didn't say anything, but Qiming understood.
“She doesn’t want me to save her,” he said in a hoarse voice. “She wants… to come with me.”
739 adjusted his glasses, the star map slowly rotating in his pupils: "Once the clock tower collapses, the 'Source Law' will activate the ultimate purification program—all unauthorized dreams will be forcibly eliminated. Including us."
“Including me.” The little girl chuckled, her figure flickering like a candle flame. “But have you forgotten? We shouldn’t have existed in the first place.”
Su Ting looked up at the suspended clock tower above the abyss. The clouds parted, revealing a massive bronze clock face, the hands slowly approaching twelve. Countless faceless mouths clung to the clock's surface, softly chanting a unified frequency—not sound, but the pulse of rules, the "law" upon which the world operates.
Chapter 1258 Bearing Their Weight
“It is awakening,” Su Ting said. “Once it fully opens its eyes, all the remaining dreams will be judged as ‘wrong,’ and even the traces of its existence will be erased.”
“So…” Qiming took a deep breath and carefully put Xiaoyue’s light into his arms, “We must break its heartbeat before it wakes up.”
The little girl suddenly flew to Su Ting's shoulder and gently patted his cheek: "Are you ready? Becoming a 'Dream Chaser' is not as simple as just drawing with a pen. You have to shoulder all the deleted dreams, bear their weight, their pain, and the reasons why they refuse to close their eyes."
Su Ting smiled.
He looked down at his hands—fine blue lines had begun to appear beneath his skin, the resonance of the stardust pen eroding his flesh.
“I’m no longer human,” he said. “I’m just… a path. The one Mengli didn’t finish walking.”
Suddenly, 739 raised his hand, his glasses vibrated, and a screen of light was projected—on which were countless flashbacks: Mengli running in the rainstorm, clutching a stardust pen that hadn't burned out; Xiaoyue leaping through the data stream, chasing a beam of light that could never be caught; Qiming hiding in a corner of the observatory, crying uncontrollably as he looked at the words "Lin Xiaoyue - Account Deactivated" on the screen...
“These… are not the end,” 739 said softly, “they are just parts of the journey that were forcibly cut off by the system.”
The little girl raised her hands, and three hundred and twenty-seven rays of light from the lingering dream rose into the sky, swirling in the void like a flock of migratory birds that had finally received their call to arms.
"Listen up!" she shouted again, her voice piercing through the layers of dreams, "You are not mistakes! You are not redundant! You are—dreams that refuse to close their eyes!"
The light suddenly converged, like a galaxy rolling back, and poured into the stardust pen.
Su Ting's body jolted violently, his knees nearly buckling. Memories slipped through his fingers like grains of sand—he forgot what his mother's red bean soup tasted like, forgot whether the old locust tree outside his elementary school had blossomed, forgot what colors he used when he first drew a picture…
But he remembered the pen.
I remember what Mengli said when she put this pen in his hand: "Someone always has to leave something behind to fight against being forgotten."
“I’m here,” he said softly, raising his pen and pointing to the clock tower.
The star-studded pen burst forth with an unprecedented brilliance, a blue so intense it was almost white, like a star about to explode as a supernova. A bridge of light extended from the gear, climbing against the abyss and pointing straight to the clouds.
"Qiming!" Su Ting turned around, his voice now carrying a metallic resonance, "Take Xiaoyue away! Don't look back!"
"And what about you?!" Qiming roared.
“I need to pave the road on top of it,” Su Ting laughed. “Otherwise, who will ring the bell?”
Before he finished speaking, his body began to disintegrate, turning into strands of light that rose up along the pen. With each inch it rose, his presence became fainter.
Suddenly, Qi Sanjiu took off his glasses and threw them hard on the ground.
The moment the lens shattered, a beam of light shot into the sky—it was his last memory before being deleted by the system: a rainy night, he stood on a street corner, clutching a crumpled drawing in his hand. The drawing depicted three children holding hands under a starry sky. The title read: "When we grow up, we'll dream together."
“I’m going too,” he said, his figure beginning to blend into the stream of light.
"Are you insane?!" Qiming roared. "You've already died once!"
"Because I've died," 739 smiled, "that's why I know—some dreams are more important than living."
Chapter 1259 Colliding with the Base of the Clock Tower
The little girl was the last to fly towards the stream of light, glancing back at Qiming.
“Remember,” she said, “if you hear a bell, however faint, it means the dream hasn’t ended.”
She spread her arms, transforming into a sky full of stardust, following Su Ting and Qi Sanjiu, going against the current.
The bridge of light crashed into the base of the clock tower, causing the entire cloud layer to tremble violently. The bronze bell emitted a muffled sound, like a giant beast convulsing in a dream.
The cracks started spreading from the edge of the clock face.
“Xiaoyue…” Qiming held the ray of light, looked up at the clock tower that was about to collapse, “Let’s go.”
He turned around, ready to leave.
But at this moment——
"elder brother."
A voice softly rang out.
It's not Xiaoyue.
She is not a little girl.
It was a... even younger child, with a nasal voice, as if speaking from inside a closet.
Qiming suddenly turned around.
Deep within the glass forest, in a nearly forgotten fragment, a small figure emerges—wearing an old-fashioned school uniform, holding a sketchbook, looking at him timidly.
[Lin Xiaoyue - Dream Type: Light Chaser - Status: Unregistered - Awaiting Awakening]
But... this piece of glass was clearly broken just now.
“You…you’re already…” Qi Ming’s voice trembled.
The child tilted his head and smiled: "The one you took away is the version of me I wanted you to see."
She opened the sketchbook. The first page depicted Qiming writing in his journal at the observatory; the second page showed his back as he wept alone late at night; and the third page showed the moment he clenched his fist and decided to step into the abyss.
“I’ve been watching you all along,” she said. “I remember every step you took.”
Qiming's tears fell to the ground, splashing up a circle of shimmering light.
"Then why didn't you come out sooner?"
“Because…” the little girl lowered her head, “the real me is never afraid of the dark. But I’m afraid—that you won’t dare to come in.”
She reached out her hand: "Now, are you willing to take my hand... and walk with me on the last stretch of the road?"
Qiming knelt down and grasped that hand with trembling hands.
