Hollywood Director 1992

#324 - Horse riding, playing cards, traveling around the world

"Hey, Link, what are you thinking about? Hurry up and play a card!"

Inside the Hollywood Boulevard Kapok Club, Link rested his chin on his hand, lightly stroking two smooth, snow-white playing cards with his fingers.

His mind, however, was replaying the scene from a couple of days ago when he had a date with Vivian Chow and the others. They were all wearing identical light nightgowns, the same perfume, and their long black hair was similarly loose, asking him to put on a blindfold and guess who was who from behind.

In the darkness, he groped around like he was feeling for the faces of playing cards, hearts, clubs, spades...

But before he could guess, Nicolas Cage rudely knocked on the table, forcing him to snap out of his amorous recollections and face a group of smoky, gambling addicts.

Today was the weekend, and Link had originally planned to stay home and spend time with the women in his household.

But Nicolas Cage and the others called him to come out and play Texas Hold'em.

He wasn't very interested in playing cards. No matter how much he won or lost, it couldn't ignite his enthusiasm, and after playing two rounds, he couldn't help but drift off.

Hearing Nicolas's reminder, he perked up a bit and looked at the two hole cards in his hand, "Are the cards you guys are dealing rigged? Why are my hole cards always so small? I haven't seen a single straight in two rounds."

"The key to playing Texas Hold'em isn't the size of the cards, but skill and luck. When I was playing cards in Las Vegas, I won $60,000 with two pairs."

Nicolas Cage said smugly, puffing on his cigarette.

"Last time you said you lost over $500,000 in Las Vegas, how did you win $60,000 again?"

Johnny Depp asked.

"I lost it later. Someone at the table had better luck than me."

Nicolas Cage shrugged.

"Link is pretty lucky too, why does he always lose when he plays cards?"

Bruce Willis asked.

"Link has answered this question before. He said the goddess of wealth doesn't support his gambling."

Jim Carrey said with a wink and a smile.

"That's true."

Link smiled and put $100 into the pot.

Jim Carrey quickly followed suit, saying he was going to win his money back.

"Link, I heard that the seven major studios are planning to jointly suppress the films under Guess Pictures during the summer blockbuster season, with a greater impact than last year's summer season. Are you guys prepared to break the seven major studios' blockade with strong box office results?"

Bruce Willis put down his cards and took a sip from his whiskey glass.

"Link, tell us quickly, I'm also quite concerned about this matter."

"It's not just you guys, everyone in Hollywood is concerned about the Second World War between the seven major studios and Guess Pictures. Everyone wants to see a good show."

Nicolas Cage and Jim Carrey said.

Link shrugged and smiled, "Guess Pictures is a new company, and its production and distribution capabilities are even worse than MGM, the weakest of the seven major studios. In this situation, it can't win against Warner Bros., Disney, or Paramount, let alone the seven major studios joining forces.

What we're considering now isn't how to defeat the seven major studios, but how to survive the seven major studios' bombardment and prevent being put on the dinner table by them."

"Don't be so pessimistic. Last year's biggest winner in the summer season was 'Seven'. Even the critically acclaimed 'Forrest Gump' and 'The Lion King' couldn't compare. This year's summer season has your 'The Butterfly Effect' and Tim Robbins' 'The Shawshank Redemption', maybe they can sell as well as 'Seven'."

Keanu Reeves said.

"It's difficult. Last year, 'Seven's' big sales were mainly due to luck. That's not possible this year. Moreover, the movies released by the seven major studios this summer season are all commercial blockbusters. 'Apollo 13', 'Waterworld', and Bruce's 'Die Hard with a Vengeance'. Before the summer season even arrives, the publicity for several movies is already overwhelming.

In comparison, the themes of Guess Pictures' movies are more niche and less commercial, so it's difficult to compare with those movies in terms of box office results."

Link flipped over his hole cards, three 8s with two unmatched cards, while Depp's biggest hand was a 3/8/J/Q/A flush, which was bigger than his, losing him three hundred and fifty.

"Link, I didn't know they were going to use this movie to compete with you when I took the role in 'Die Hard'."

Bruce Willis said.

"Top five is not bad. Guess Pictures is a new film company. As long as it maintains a top seven level for several consecutive years, Guess Pictures will become an old film company like Warner and Paramount in the future."

Bruce Willis said.

Link nodded, picked up his hole cards and glanced at them, a diamond 8 and a club 3. He wanted to throw them away when he saw these two hole cards.

"Hey, why didn't you guys call me when you came to play cards?"

At this moment, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Joaquin Phoenix, and Edward Norton pushed open the door and walked into the room.

"Ben, I heard you were depressed, are you better now?"

Jim Carrey grinned and laughed.

Some embarrassment flashed across Ben Affleck's face. It sounds cool for an actor to get into character when filming, but after coming out of the role, thinking about the things he did in the past is like acting like a drunkard in a square after getting drunk, which is very embarrassing afterwards.

"Ben is fine! We took Ben to the amusement park to ride a roller coaster like Link said, and he recovered in less than half a day."

Matt Damon smiled.

"Sounds good."

Link didn't want to play anymore, stood up and gave his seat to Ben.

"Hehe, thank you! I haven't played cards in a long time, I must kill everyone today."

Ben Affleck rubbed his palms excitedly and sat down.

Link sat in the nearby rest area drinking tea and chatting with Matt Damon, Joaquin, and the others.

Last year, Matt Damon's "Good Will Hunting" was a big hit and won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. Matt Damon also became popular because of this and became a quasi-first-line star in Hollywood. Although he is not as good as Ben, he is not far behind.

After becoming popular, Matt Damon successively received leading roles in several films, the leading role in Guess Pictures' "Rounders", and the leading role in Francis Ford Coppola's new film "The Rainmaker".

Joaquin Phoenix is also developing well, often playing important roles in films produced by Guess Pictures, including "To Die For", "Scream", and "U Turn".

After filming "Final Destination", Edward Norton studied at a performing arts school for a period of time. Recently, he came out to act again, but compared to the other people in the "Final Destination" crew, he is far behind.

Link asked him to go to Guess Pictures when he had time. There were two movies with protagonists that were more suitable for him. He could take a look at the scripts first to see if he had any ideas about acting in them.

Edward Norton nodded excitedly in agreement.

"Edward, you're so lucky, you can get a role as soon as you come, you must treat us."

Joaquin patted him on the shoulder excitedly.

"No problem."

Edward Norton grinned and smiled.

"It must be, if you don't believe me, ask Link."

Link was chatting with a few people when someone on the next table called him.

"What?"

Link turned around and asked.

Jim Carrey smiled and said, "Ben said that he went to the WMA agency yesterday to talk about work and saw a beautiful woman in the aisle, blonde hair and blue eyes, tall, and not very old, she looked very beautiful. Ben was moved and wanted to pursue her. We advised him not to do this, that beautiful woman is likely to be your secret girlfriend."

"Link, is it true?"

Ben Affleck looked over with a sad and indignant expression.

Link was speechless, "I don't know who you're talking about, there are hundreds of female stars in WMA, it's impossible for them all to be my girlfriends."

"Charlize Theron, she is Mr. Sam Haskell's newly signed client, is she your girlfriend?"

Ben Affleck looked very uneasy.

"Sam mentioned her, but I haven't met her yet, is she really that beautiful?"

Link smiled.

"No, no, not beautiful, just average."

Ben Affleck said quickly.

"Hahaha!"

Jim Carrey, Nicolas Cage, Johnny Depp and the others couldn't help laughing when they heard him say this.

"Ben, that girl is an artist signed by Mr. Haskell, he will introduce her to Link sooner or later, is it useful for you to hide it?"

Joaquin Phoenix teased.

Ben Affleck frowned, looking at Link with a wary expression, "Link, you have dozens of girlfriends, and I don't have one, you won't rob me, will you?"

"Don't worry, I never steal other people's girlfriends."

Link said.

"Hehe, Ben, does Link need to steal girls? He's so charming and talented, girls will take the initiative to stick to him when they see him. What you need to worry about now is not whether Link will rob you, but whether the girl you like will take the initiative to pursue Link. Once she becomes obsessed with Link, do you still have a chance?"

Joaquin Phoenix smiled.

Hearing his words, Ben Affleck's face slowly sank, and the straight flush in his hand was no longer fragrant.

Link shook his head helplessly.

Everyone's prejudice against him was too deep.

His current situation is very similar to Guess Pictures.

After Guess Pictures grew stronger, it was envied and ostracized by the seven major studios, and after he had many girlfriends, many male actors and directors disliked him.

If it weren't for his high position, power, and wealth, he would probably be surrounded by enemies in Hollywood.

So he gradually understood a truth, when a person's status reaches a certain level, there is no choice but to keep moving forward.

Once the status declines, those former friends will turn against each other, and those who hate him will show their fangs and divide him up.

Link sat for a while, received a call, then got up, said goodbye and left.

"I bet he's going to pick up girls."

Ben Affleck said with a pout.

"It's a woman's voice, speaking French, I understand a little French."

Jim Carrey nodded.

"French?"

Ben Affleck stood up abruptly, "Miss Charlize Theron is also from France, could it be her?"

Everyone looked at him with pity, the poor guy was heartbroken before he even started dating.
