Chapter 9

Hai Tang House

I follow Long Zi Xuan from behind as he walks through the door.  A person wearing golden robes stands in front of a book frame on the west side of the building.  He is very tall, and has a few streaks of grey on his hair.

Long Zi Xuan casually sits on a stool before pointing towards another stool next to him.  I follow his prompt and elegantly sits down.

“Xuan Er, is this the one Guoshi said to have fate with you?  She looks really refreshing and refined.”  The emperor slowly turns around.

“This common girl, Xiao Duo, greets Your Majesty.”  Such deep eyes, such outstanding facial features, this emperor must have been very good looking in his younger years.  Just, his eyebrows are a little dense.  I stares at him rigidly, wondering if I should be kneeling.

“No need to be so formal, Miss Xiao Duo.  Just consider this as your own home.”  The emperor sits next to Long Zi Xuan.  I heaves out in relief.  The entire atmosphere feels amiable, but from the begonia courtyard until in here, I didn’t see a single servant.  Not even one eunuch or maid.

“Xuan Er, have you decide?” the emperor must be referring to me?  Oh God!  I glance at Long Zi Xuan, wondering what this ice block is going to say.  From his face that detests me, what good words can he possible says?

“Imperial father, let’s wait until Guoshi returns first, then, we’ll speak.  Perhaps, Xiao Duo is just a coincidence.  Besides, I never truly believes all this nonsense.”  He is still with his cold tone, not a single trace of warmth.

Hearing their conversation, I am truly left out.  At least the cakes on top of the table looks exquisite.  I quickly grab one.  The yellow hibiscus cake has the faint fragrance of begonia, how delicious!

“Woah, this is too delicious!  I have never tasted any cake that has begonia flavors before, not even in the prince’s manor!” Eating the cake while gazing at the scenery outside, how comfortable ah!

The emperor and Long Zi Xuan stares at Xiao Duo who is eating heartily, threads of warmth flashing in their eyes.

“Seeing Xiao Duo eating that cake reminds me of your mother.  She used to love that cake the most.  She even gave it a name, ‘Ling Long Hai Tang’.  She put my name and her’s in the middle of the name.”  The emperor sighs after saying that.

“Your Majesty, I apologize oh!  Seeing the begonia garden outside, I can already tell that the owners have had a romantic relationship in the past, I didn’t think……”  I look at the emperor who is getting immersed in his past and Long Zi Xuan who is showing no particular reaction, as usual.  Who did I provoked and who did I angered ah?  I was only eating a cake and yet the reaction……

“Don’t be like this ah!  Why don’t I tell you about me?  Don’t be like this, Her Ladyship probably hates seeing you two like this. Okay?  Long Zi Xuan.”  I grab his sleeves.  He turns and roll his eyes at me.  I glares at him in return.  Let’s see whose eyes are bigger!

“Haha, Miss Xiao Duo is really fun.  No maiden dares to treat Xuan Er like that before.” The emperor looks at me in appreciation.  With that, I no longer has anything to fear.  I stand up and clears my throat.

“Would you like something to wet your throat?” Long Zi Xuan mischievously says.

“Long Zi Xuan, only now did I find out you can tell a joke!  But it’s cold!”  (TN: she means that joke is cold.  He ain’t being funny.)

“Cold?  This place is not cold at all?”  The emperor suddenly quips in.  Oh God, I will go crazy.  Breath in carefully, show a virtuous image.

After that, I told them everything about where I came from, how I got here, how the 21st century was.  I basically answers all the questions they have.  They bombards me with question that in the end, I am left with a coarse throat.  I take a tea pot from the table and place it on my lips.  Oh no- I forgot to be virtuous.  I quickly cover my mouth with my sleeve as I drink.

The emperor and Long Zi Xuan looks a little out of it after listening to me.  There is really such a place in this world?  Xiao Duo looked so earnest and honest, she didn’t seem like she was lying.  And the way she speaks can be pretty bizarre too.

“Wei, I finished speaking.  I know both of you finds it unbelievable.  Actually, I find it unbelievable myself.  I don’t know if I can go back or not…”

Hearing her talking about going home, Long Zi Xuan’s heart sinks.  When the emperor sees Long Zi Xuan’s dim eyes, the corner of his lips slowly rises.  Xuan Er, seems like you can’t run from this one.
