Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star

Chapter 118 - Ch. 118 Diego And Max

Maximillian blinked a few times, wondering how he had fallen asleep. He was sure he wasn't doing any tiring activity that put him to sleep.

Max kneaded his temple and noticed the bandage covering the entire back of his hand and fingers. He just remembered yesterday afternoon that he had put all his energy into dealing with Vectis's power. His life energy was drained thanks to that so that his body felt tired. No wonder he overslept.

Max lifted his head towards Diego's bed and was confused by what he saw. Right now, the one lying on the bed wasn't Diego but Chleo? Then where is Diego?

"Are you awake?"

Max turned to his side and was a bit surprised to see Diego sitting next to him. Why was he completely unaware of his presence?

"What are you doing?" Max was even more confused when Diego was engrossed in playing with his smartphone as if the boy had not fallen ill.

"Ah, my friends are furious because I didn't online yesterday. So today, I make up for it." Diego answered with his eyes still focused on the game on his smartphone.

"How are you now?"

"Much better. Wait a moment. Let me finish this one."

Max winced at that. How strange. Why did he feel that there was something different about this young man next to him? But he had no idea what was different.

In the end, he decided to get up to see Chleo, who was still asleep. As he walked, Diego glanced scornfully at his back briefly before returning to his game.

Max stroked the top of Chleo's head with a gentle smile. This was the first time he had seen the girl's face while sleeping. Chleo looked more innocent and peaceful while sleeping, as if there was no burden on her mind.

"Can I ask you something?" said Diego in an even tone.

"Do ask."

"Do you have twins?"

"No."

"An older brother, maybe?"

"No. I'm an only child." Max replied, still looking at his lover without any suspicion at Diego, who was interrogating him.

"I wonder if your real hair is black? It's rare for an Englishman to have jet black hair like you."

The hand that was still stroking the top of Chleo's head stopped for a moment.

"There are quite a few people with black hair in the area where I live."

"Oh. I think you'd be better if you dyed your hair silver or something. Have you ever done that?"

Max sighed then turned to face Diego to find out what the teenager was looking for about him. At first, he thought Diego was wondering just because he wanted to confirm whether Max deserved his sister or not. Therefore, Max was willing to cooperate and answer any questions the boy had.

But now, Max wasn't sure that Diego's question had anything to do with his relationship with Chleo. What did Diego want from him? What did the young man want to know from him?

"Why are you interested in my hair color? Would you approve of my relationship if I dyed my hair silver?"

Diego gaped at the blunt question. He believed he had not mentioned the relationship between the man and his sister at all. Why did this guy strike him straight away?!

"I didn't say anything about your relationship," Diego said in a flat tone, but Max could still detect a hint of displeasure in his voice.

"Diego, did something happen before you passed out?" this time, it was Max who shot him head-on.

Of course, something happened. Diego had remembered everything in his previous life. He knew what his sister was going through and suffering.

"Why do you think like that?"

"You're not like the Diego I met a moment ago."

"…"

For a moment, neither of them spoke. They just stared at each other, trying to figure out what the other person was thinking. Even Max himself was amazed. Until their last meeting, Max could still understand what the young man was feeling with ease.

He could immediately tell what the young man's mood was like, but now… it was challenging for him to break into the young man's thoughts. He felt he was dealing with someone who was not a 16-year-old teenager who should still be innocent and carefree, but with someone who had experienced bitterness and tough times in his life.

It seemed that the Diego in front of him had changed from the Diego he had met. But… how could someone change so drastically?

"Hm…" a mumbling sound from behind him broke Max's thoughts.

"Diego? Max?" called Chleo in her hoarse voice because she had just woken up.

"Hi, good morning," greeted Max, ignoring Diego, who was still looking at him probingly.

"Good morning. Where is this?" for a while, Chleo's brain system network progressed very slowly. As soon as her brain functioned normally, only then did she think of her brother. "Diego! Where is he? Why am I here?"

"Shh. Calm down. He's fine." Max replied in a soothing voice as he glanced at Diego, who was still sitting on the comfortable sofa.

Chleo also glanced at Diego, who was now smiling broadly at her while waving his hand.

"Good morning, sis."

"Diego! You!!" Chleo promptly stood up and walked over to the puzzled boy. She cupped Diego's face with both hands and pinched both cheeks. "What are you doing lying around in the backyard, huh? Why not wear a jacket? Why did you have to faint?"

"Ow… heft hi ho!" Diego struggled to get his sister to release the pinch on both cheeks. As soon as Chleo let go, Diego rubbed his cheeks which were now slightly red from his sister's dead pinch. "I'm not a kid anymore. Why do you still like to pinch me? What if my good looks are reduced because of your pinch."

"You…"

"Okay, I understand. I was wrong. I won't do it again. So don't be mad anymore, hm?"

"Hmph! Next time I won't take care of you if you're reckless like yesterday."

Diego chuckled before promising his sister that the same thing would never happen again.

Diego could feel a pair of eyes watching his movements as he interacted with Chleo. But he pretended not to know and acted normal like the usual Diego.

On the other, Max recalled something in his mind.

"IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT!! YOU SHOULD NOT MEET MY SISTER! GO HELL! DON'T SHOW YOUR FACE AGAIN!"

Instantly Max's chest seemed to rumble seeing this memory image. This time, he could clearly see a person's face—honey-like blonde hair with similar blue eyes.

The person who shouted at him was unmistakable… that person was… Diego?!
