Ice Prince: Rewrite The Star
Chapter 165 - Ch. 165 Summoned By The Chairman
After enjoying the beautiful scenery over her head, Chleo extracted one of the flowers to take it with her. She couldn't possibly carry such a large flower inside, so she only took one for her.
On her way to her office floor, many female employees approached her to ask questions about the flower sender. Chleo managed to escape from the crowd with great difficulty and headed straight for Division I, where she worked.
Instead of being free from questions, she was now attacked by the curiosity of her senior colleagues.
"Love is blooming, and spring has come. It turns out that someone already had his eyes on our little girl."
"Ah, what a pity. I planned to introduce you to my brother. You'll be a great match."
"So, tell us, junior co-workers. Is it from your boyfriend?"
Chleo blushed sheepishly at her seniors' teasing. They tried to fish out about the sender, but Chleo sealed her lips tightly.
It's not that she didn't want to admit that she has a boyfriend, but she still doubts whether the flower sender is Max.
Max did say he would send her a New Year's gift to her office, but the man didn't say what kind of gift it would be. Furthermore, she felt sure the sender wasn't Max.
It made sense if it was her father's family or Alvianc who sent the flowers. But it wouldn't make sense if Max sent it unless the man had an extraordinary background.
Or had she been wrong all this time? Chleo had just realized how little she knew about her boyfriend. Even though all this time they had often chatted but all she knew were small things like the man's favorite food, the man's habits when he was with her, or the man's hobbies.
But the family or the background of the young man was utterly unknown. All she knew was that Max's parents were gone, and the man had no siblings except for a few whom he considered as brothers or sisters.
Other than that, Chleo knew nothing. To be more precise, it was Max who always turned to ask her about her family.
Chleo still wanted to hide her identity at that time, so she often shifted the conversation to other things.
Chleo placed her elbow on the table and rested her chin against her open palms. She couldn't focus at work today. For a moment, she forgot the happy event where her design works would be realized and sold at the gala show next month.
"You look like a depressed person for someone who got the best news of all time." Jay's voice brought her back to reality. "What's bothering you?"
"Nothing. I'm just confused."
"Confused about your work being accepted or about the flower gate at the door?"
Chleo's gasp at this sudden realization.
"The flower sender knew that my work was admitted here. That means the sender also works here, right?"
"It seems so. After all, this gala show project will be announced on the fourteenth. So outsiders still don't know about this project. They only know the products will be launched on Valentine's Day."
"Exactly. Apart from you and Mrs. Montgomery, I never show my designs to anyone. And yet, all of my designs were already submitted and accepted. Isn't this very strange?"
"Are you sure no one else has seen it?"
"I'm certain." or not. Chleo had shown it to Max once too, but it wasn't countable, was it? Max doesn't work here.
"So, someone else did see it. It might be this person was the sender."
"But he doesn't work here."
"Hm, I doubt that. But what is certain is that this person is not ordinary if he could afford to buy and send fresh flowers directly from France. I thought that only Kinsey would go to extreme measures to please his wife in this world, but your secret admirer is worse than your uncle."
"What are you talking about?" snorted Chleo. "I don't have a secret admirer."
"You don't? Then what do you call the boys swarmed up in the front of your school gate every morning and evening?" Jaydn continued with amused laughter remembering he had seen it with his own eyes Chleo was surrounded by youths making Diego and other bodyguards unable to get rid of them from Chleo.
Chleo grumbled silently. It was a very long time ago, and she was not proud of it. It was a lie if she said she didn't enjoy the opposite sex's attraction to her. She was happy and proud of herself, but... her female friends became distant from her. They didn't bother her, but they didn't want to be near her.
If given a choice, Chleo preferred to spend time playing with her female friends rather than males. But if she could, Chleo wished to be friends with everyone. The more friends, the better.
At least she won't be awkward when she receives a confession of love from the young men. Chleo would not give false hope and could befriend them without feeling burdened.
Alas... the only ones who wanted to hang out with her were the male ones.
"By the way, what are you going to do?"
"Why?"
"You're in big trouble if it turns out that the flower sender doesn't work here."
"Ha? Why am I in trouble?" Chleo couldn't help but feel restless and panicked when she heard she was about to get into trouble.
"I heard our commissioner is coming today. If he saw something abnormal in front of his company, he would investigate the cause. Don't be surprised if he will summon you after this."
Chleo gulped nervously. "You… you just want to scare me, right?"
"No, I'm not. Why would I scare you? Just pray that our commissioner won't mind it and won't call you." Chleo immediately followed Jay's suggestion.
Unfortunately, her prayers were not answered.
"Miss West, you have been summoned to the boardroom. The chairman wants to see you."
Instantly Chleo went limp, and she felt her heart stop beating.
Is this what it's like to get terrible news after hearing the best news of all time? If she could re-vote, it would be better if she didn't have to get this good news. She didn't mind if Daphnia did not choose her design work.
"Good luck." Jaydn patted Chleo on the shoulder while smiling amusedly.
Why did she feel that the man was enjoying her misery so much?
Not only that, the female employees who had never paid attention to her were now talking about her. At first, they were friendly and congratulated her, but now they acted otherwise.
They all sneered at Chleo and smiled sinisterly at her as expected. They were all just jealous because Chleo, as a newcomer, was able to get this fantastic flower after almost all of her designs were approved to be used at the gala show later.
But... it wasn't her fault that she got chosen, right? Why would everyone be so evil toward her?
"Be careful," a sweet, loud voice greeted Chleo. "I heard that our new commissioner doesn't like his workplace making a fuss. You've just caught a lot of people's attention, and there's already a sea of people underneath. Get ready to face his wrath. Don't let yourself fall prematurely." said the girl with a broad smile showing a row of clean white teeth.
Chleo kept a straight face, even though her heart was filled with uneasiness. Calmly, Chleo pressed the elevator button for the employee to decide not to respond to the woman's insincere warning.
"Miss West, don't take that elevator. Please come with me."
Not only was Chleo surprised, but the woman who had just given her a warning also looked surprised with wide eyes.
"We'll take another one. It will take us directly to the main boardroom floor."
Chleo glanced at the woman who had just warned her. She shook her head, seeing the insincere lady instantly fix her face and put on the sweetest expression.
"Good afternoon Mr. Hammilton."
"Hmm." Dietrich only mumbled briefly, then turned his focus back to Chleo. "Follow me. "
Chleo nodded slowly and followed Dietrich to the glass elevator.
"Mr. Hammilton, why did the commissioner want to see me? Am I going to be fired?"
Dietrich smiled reassuringly. "Don't worry. Our commissioner is not a narrow-minded person."
"Then what was I called for?"
"You can ask him when you meet him."
The problem was that Chleo had the urge to run and didn't want to meet this famous chairman. It would be a different story if she came as Chleora Regnz. Even then, she would still be nervous because she definitely wouldn't be able to talk about business matters. But at least she could use her family as her main defense.
Chleo bit her finger nervously as the elevator door opened, and Dietrich led her down a long corridor where a classic modern door was clearly displayed.
"Good day, Mr. Hammilton, Miss West. The chairman is waiting for you inside." announced a secretary who greeted them warmly.
Dietrich turned to Chleo and pushed her inside. "Good luck."
Huwaaaaa… why do so many people say 'good luck' to her? Is Daphnia Fashion's chariman that scary?
On her way to her office floor, many female employees approached her to ask questions about the flower sender. Chleo managed to escape from the crowd with great difficulty and headed straight for Division I, where she worked.
