104 True and False Knight (Part )
After returning to the room, Shirley said she wanted to rest for a while.
Winette was not sleepy, so she waited for Shirley to fall asleep, then left the cabin and prepared to go to the deck to enjoy the sea breeze. It was afternoon, and the temperature was relatively warm, so it was a good time.
She took a bottle of mineral water, went to the tiered, wide deck, and walked to the edge where there were few people. All she saw was a piece of blue, and even though she couldn't see the specific lines, she could still feel the shock.
As she was looking at the sea, she heard the sound of footsteps approaching.
The person who came was not Shirley, but a man of medium height. She heard the sound of a tripod falling to the ground. The other person was probably a photographer. Is there anything to take pictures of here? If you want to enjoy the sea view, it is better to avoid other people.
"Excuse me, ma'am. Could I take a few pictures of you?"
"I would very much like to refuse, sir."
She turned her head and saw a camera in front of her, but the man of medium height did not take the photo, but asked for her consent. When facing a gentleman who was polite and respectful enough, the priests usually would not refuse their small requests.
But Winnett didn't want her appearance to be known by many people, especially when the man in front of her was professional enough.
The man changed the angle of the camera and said while adjusting it, "Madam, I guess you are worried that your photos will be spread around. But don't worry, I won't do that. If you really mind, I can just take pictures of your back. There are many vulgar people on this ship. We can't get along with them, right?"
The man spoke in a tone that inspired empathy. He was wearing a tight white sweater with something that looked like a coat of arms embroidered on it. His eyebrows were very firm and he was about 30 years old. His expression and tone of voice showed that this was not a must. He seemed quite gentle.
Winnet refused again: "I'm sorry, sir."
He tilted the camera upwards. "Well, ma'am. I'm Odysseus, a freelance journalist who's on his way to Japan to film. Perhaps we could chat and kill some time before dinner."
Odysseus waited for a reply.
Winnet agreed to his request, thinking that this might give her a simple idea of the ship and the people attending the party, so that she would not be unprepared at the dinner.
Odysseus smiled, bent his body, and looked up into the sky to catch the moving seabirds.
"Mr. Odysseus, I don't think Uncle Edward will allow a reporter on board. This is a very private trip, isn't it?" Winnett spoke first.
Odysseus smiled and pressed the shutter button.
"I didn't board the ship as a reporter. Rich people like secrets, and they regard sneaky reporters as rats stealing privacy." Odis shook his head meaningfully, "If I was doing it for money, I wouldn't do this job... I want to shoot the scenery and humanities. Two months ago, I was still in a war-torn country in Africa, but it was too cruel there. After the shooting, I had to flee to the United States in shame."
"God bless you to return safely, sir."
"Thank God, but Africans don't believe in Him, and they won't treat me differently because I'm a believer. Well, ma'am, I'm a lucky man who happened to inherit an estate. My uncle died in America. He was not only a rich man, but he had no children."
"Me too, sir. Uncle Edward will reintroduce me tonight."
"Oh, my God!" Odysseus laughed, "I thought you were a princess from some small country. You are as beautiful as a white bird flying in the sky, making an old man lose his composure."
"But I'm a country clergyman, sir. I'm terrified about what's coming. Can you tell me about it?" Winnet brought the subject to what she wanted to ask.
"Of course, ma'am. Almost all the people on this ship are shareholders and partners of the Durant Group. They are allowed to bring their friends and enjoy a vacation of not too long or too short." Odysseus took out his notebook and took out a folded paper from the middle. He handed it to Winnett, "This is the invitation list for the banquet. I marked the names of the shareholders."
Winnett put the list in front of her and read it very closely. She confirmed the names of the shareholders, and besides the names of the shareholders who had been marked, there was also the name of Suzuki Chairman Shiro Suzuki and some of the powerful people in the Japanese company. "I'm curious, why did you mark their names?"
Odysseus noticed Winnet's eyes.
"I was negligent. I should have read it to you. As for the answer to this question, since I have decided to give up my shareholder status, but the Durant Group prohibits me from selling shares to outsiders, I can only look for a transferee among the group's shareholders." Odysseus explained, "So I just use this catalog as a list and find a good buyer from it."
"So that's it."
"It's a kind of speculation. If I can sell it at a better price, my life will be much easier in the future."
"Good luck to you, sir."
"Thank you, ma'am." Odysseus added, "There are a few difficult guys in there, including young people. They were all dreaming of share restructuring, but you suddenly appeared. Those immature kids may not be very friendly. There are also a few weird guys on the list, such as Baron Alman. Damn it, I have never heard of this person."
"I'll pay attention to that. Thank you for your help." Winnet thanked him politely, "Then I'll take my leave first."
Winnett had a keen sense of time, and based on her understanding of Shirley, she was almost awake by now.
"When dealing with shareholders, I just hope they don't mess with Shirley." Winnett didn't understand the world of rich people. Some might be polite, while others might have inherited a family business, have childlike minds, or be arrogant. These were not the people she would deal with in the future, so they seemed insignificant.
However, Shirley is not the type to suffer losses.
Winette quietly opened the door and happened to see Shirley coming out of the bathroom.
The white mist passed by her in front of her, and her vision was filled with a pure whiteness. In a year or two, it would not be too much to be pure and beautiful, just like the lilies in God's field. Winnet had heard the nun preach about beauty more than once.
"What?" Shirley asked.
"nothing."
"We didn't bring bathrobes or anything like that. That was a mistake." Shirley sighed. "At the speed of this ship, it will take about ten days to get to Japan."
"It takes a long time." Winnett was a little embarrassed. If it weren't for her matter, it might have taken only one day to arrive by plane.
"Modern ships generally pursue speed. This ship was obviously built not long ago. With the financial resources of the Durant Group, I believe that its specifications are also top-notch in long-distance passenger transport. Well, just treat it as a vacation."
Shirley was naked, taking milk out of the refrigerator. Winnet was familiar with this scene, as there were similar plots in Japanese comics.
……
105 Let my princess appear perfectly
"Winette, help me get my handbag from the locker."
Winnett's movements were obviously reserved, and she handed the bag to Shirley from a distance, as if there was an invisible area ahead. After treating Shirley differently, it was difficult for her to return to the relaxed attitude she had when they first met.
Miss Winnett felt that she might be a very emotional person.
"Why such a big reaction?" Shirley laughed. In her opinion, Winnett was a little too reserved, no different from a conservative Oriental, as if she came from a strict Catholic family.
"See no evil."
"Oh, Confucius. You have such a wide range of interests." Shirley was a little surprised.
"Well, I have a wide range of interests in reading." Winette lied casually. She couldn't bring up things from her past life.
"But no matter who you look at, it's just like looking at a mannequin in a store, right? It's just blurry white. Even if you were shown it specifically, you wouldn't be able to appreciate its beauty."
Just for me? Winette was dumbfounded, her mouth and throat dry, not to mention the word "wonderful". She felt that Shirley was good in every way, except that she was always sharp-tongued and always teased others. She needed to change that, otherwise it would easily lead to resentment.
It doesn't matter how I treat her.
Winette, who is more conservative in character, thinks it is not good for Shirley to always say these things. She is not a saint and there will always be some guilt in her mind.
"How is that the same?" Winnett retorted, "When you see someone you're not interested in, at most you'll admire them for a second, but if it's someone you like, the feeling is completely different."
"You're just saying you like me in broad daylight. You have no shame!"
Winette was speechless.
Shirley opened her handbag and took out some olive oil to apply on her face. She started taking care of her skin at such a young age? Winette muttered to herself that a certain country girl had grown up rough since she was a child, climbing trees, fighting, and everything else. For a while, Sister Alyssa even complained that Bridge had raised her like an American monkey.
But perhaps because she is naturally beautiful, she has no skin problems for the time being.
Shirley applied olive oil on her cheeks to make them look softer and more plump.
"Instead of staring at me, maybe you should consider using skin care products." Shirley said, "Well, I don't think you need to use makeup. It's good for you to keep your temperament like this."
What kind of temperament? Miss Winnet was a little confused, but she had never been interested in makeup, and the pastor rarely did so, unless it was a big occasion, he might put on some light makeup to make his skin look brighter and more shiny.
But Shirley is only thirteen, right? Winnett thinks that precocity is a double-edged sword, and that children should have their own cute qualities. Shirley doesn't understand her little thoughts.
"You'd better get ready, too. Aren't you going to a party tonight?"
"Ah."
Winnet walked into the bathroom, which was much more luxurious than the attic, with a bathtub that could accommodate two people. Wait, two people? Miss Winnet shook her head. She saw an unopened nail brush next to her, so she took a hot bath while trimming her nails.
When she turned off the water and wiped her body with a towel, the door was pushed open.
"Wear today's clothes or this one?" Shirley came in and urged.
Winnet saw a light dress, all pure white, and couldn't help but ask, "Uh... where did it come from?"
"How about the gift I bought for you?" Shirley raised her hand sideways and showed her smile.
“It’s beautiful, but…”
"Then we'll go with this one. There are only two or three pieces, so there's not much to choose from." Shirley helped Winnet decide on the result.
"OK then."
Winnet murmured to herself. She had never worn anything like it before. It made her feel like the white robes in a Catholic choir, but in a battle-damaged version.
"Hey, let me help you." Shirley walked behind Winnet.
"Uh." Winnet shrank her shoulders unnaturally.
"There's a white hair here." Shirley pulled out Winnet's white hair and touched her neck with her cold fingers.
Winnet felt like she was getting goosebumps.
"How can you tell white hair? Isn't my hair white?" said Winnett.
"It's just that you can't tell it clearly. It's actually a lighter silver-blue... But it's easy to miss if you don't look carefully."
"Is there a difference between silver and white?" Winnet originally thought that she had some kind of gray hair disease, but it seems that it is just a characteristic of the world.
A diary with a low sense of existence is still in the box. I might as well open it and take a look today, she thought.
"How can they be the same? The latter is probably caused by pathological factors."
Shirley answered, and then asked Winnet to sit on the stool in front of the dressing mirror. She wanted to cover up the front, but Shirley's eyes were clear in the mirror.
This made her feel as if they were already used to similar situations, like they were more closely related to those couples who had been together for a long time. But, couple? She felt ashamed of her thoughts, especially since Shirley was right behind her, and she became even more uncomfortable when she realized that she was looking at them.
Shirley said nothing, and reached out to comb Winnett's hair. Then she applied something on her cheeks, Winnett didn't know, she just let it do it.
"Yeah, perfect."
"Hmm." Winnett was unfamiliar with the hairstyle in the mirror, "Princess braids?"
"Aren't you the protagonist tonight?" Shirley asked back.
Dressing up the person you like beautifully also gives you a sense of accomplishment. This strange feeling makes Shirley feel unfamiliar. To be honest, she used to be too lazy to think about life. Buying goods was more like a way to vent her anger and kill time. She lacked initiative. Shirley felt that such a lifestyle was too boring, so she also wanted to actively change it.
At least, let Winnet feel her emotions. She looked at the person in the mirror and felt that she really had the feeling of a noble lady on the screen. Although her appearance was a bit superficial, there was no doubt that her Winnet was at the top level.
"That's true, but..."
"I want my princess to look perfect."
Winnet was gagged by Shirley's words. No matter how you think about it, it's not appropriate for a member of the organization to make an appearance. This makes Miss Winnet feel strange as a spy. Maybe she should learn from Jacques. But since Shirley has expectations, she has to respond. Even if it's revenge and crime, she has to see the target's miserable appearance to be happy. The response is very important, Winnet thought.
"Stay like this for a while."
Winnet followed Shirley's instructions, and when her body was almost dry, she changed into the light skirt Shirley prepared; the fabric was warm but thin, as if it had no weight, which made her feel uncomfortable. But when she saw Shirley pushing her in front of the half-length mirror and showing interest, she gradually dispelled her concerns.
There is also timidity and hesitation about banquets.
There was not much time left before the banquet, and after a while, Shirley was ready.
Winette was already waiting for Shirley at the door.
……
106 True and False Knight (IV)
They headed to the restaurant where the banquet was held. On the way, Winette couldn't help but sneak a glance at Shirley. Since she was standing very close to her, she could see clearly. The slim-fitting dark blue shirt and the black long skirt made Shirley look more mature. With the addition of the impression, Shirley's every move became more mature, exuding a sense of mystery.
When they arrived at the hall, they found an empty table and stood beside it, waiting for the banquet to begin.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was completely different from that in the daytime, with warm lights, the aroma of food and the faint smell of alcohol. Everyone was dressed very formally and waited meticulously. During this process, some people held up their glasses and chatted with others, while others waited alone.
"You are here too."
Masaru Ota from the Film Research Club came up to talk, followed by a group of people from the Film Research Club, a blond man, and a tall woman with gorgeous makeup.
The woman stepped forward, and Winnet was able to see her full face; her features were somewhat arrogant, and despite her mature makeup, she was still young. Winnet deduced that she was about the same age as Suzuki Ayako.
"Hello." The woman extended her hand to Winnet.
Winnett shakes hands with the women.
During this process, the woman's expression changed slightly, as if she was a little disgusted.
"Maybe you should take care of it. It feels like a man to me." The woman reminded in a low voice.
Winnet didn't care. It was hard to tell from the feel of her hands what caused the calluses; shooting was only one aspect, as was holding cold weapons, minor bruises, and the effects of working in the church.
She was not a young lady, so naturally she would not care about this.
