Chapter 18 Last Night's Tide

"Hahaha, Peppy, you really should ride in Vito's car. It's as fast as in an old movie, uh, what's it called again, that bald guy?"

"Fast and Furious".

"Yes! Fast and Furious! Vito, you have a good memory!"

Jack and Vito sat in their usual spot, several bottles of Dionysus 400 opened in front of them. Pepi was nearly overwhelmed with work today, juggling entertaining the Valentino gang's drunkards while listening to Jack's requests for the day.

"Alright, Pepi, I'll take care of the bar. We have a lot of customers today, you can't be in two places at once."

A woman with graying hair called Pepi out.

"Uh, Mom, what brings you here?"

Mrs. Wells laughed when she heard her son's silly question.

"This place is called Wild Wolf Bar, not Jack Bar. I'm so busy today, but I still have to come and look after my little shop."

As Mrs. Wells spoke, she cut a plate of lemons for the two of them.

"Mom, you're getting old, so please take more rest. I'm here for you!"

Mrs. Wells removed the empty bottles from the bar and smiled.

"Really? I'm not so old that I can't move, and all I see is poor Peppy working non-stop, while my son is like an old engine, constantly being pumped with alcohol."

Jack shrank back and complained.

"Mom, don't talk about me when my best buddy is sitting here! Oh, by the way, Mom, let me introduce you, this is Vito."

"It's a pleasure to see you, Mrs. Wells."

“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Vito. I’ve heard your name from everyone around me tonight. You’re a great young man. Come over for dinner more often.”

“I will, Mrs. Wells.”

"Alright, I won't interrupt the two young people's conversation anymore. We Gen Z kids are almost being eliminated by society. Jack, you watch the bar. Today is your big day, but promise me you won't empty the liquor cabinet, okay?"

Jack single-handedly flipped over the bar counter while supporting himself on the table.

"Just watch, Mom, your son can handle everything!"

Mrs. Wells smiled at her son's reckless behavior, gave Jack a few instructions, and then went upstairs.

Jack breathed a sigh of relief after seeing his mother leave.

"Phew~ To be honest, I'm really afraid of my mom."

Vito took a bite of the lemon and laughed.

"I didn't realize that Mr. Jack Wells, who isn't afraid of bullets, is afraid of his own mother."

Jack picked up a slice of lemon, put it in his mouth and chewed it haphazardly for a while, then used a glass of 400g Rabbit Dionysus Tequila to get rid of the sour taste in his mouth.

“It’s not that kind of fear, I’m afraid of disappointing and hurting my mom.”

This surprised Vito a bit, and he immediately became attentive.

“I used to be in the Valentino gang. Once, I was shot in a fight with the Sixth Street gang and was in the hospital. When I saw my mother crying uncontrollably, I decided to leave the gang.”

Vito poured Jack a glass and said.

"There's really no future for short mules; you never know when you might end up dead in the street."

At this moment, several members of the Valentino gang came over to offer a toast.

"Uh, hello, are you Vito?"

Vito turned around and answered.

"If there isn't another Vito here, then I am. What brings you here?"

Those people raised the cups in their hands.

"No ill intentions, just came to have a few drinks. Jack is our brother, and we're here to congratulate him and his partner."

Vito picked up the bottle.

"A few glasses aren't enough! Let's have a few more bottles, and I'll pay for them!"

Alcohol is the best catalyst for relationships, and after drinking a few bottles, the group started talking non-stop.

A gangster named Pollivel told the crowd an urban legend.

"Do you know the killer whale? That legendary submarine from before!"

Everyone immediately transformed into the straight man, Yu the Teacher.

"I've heard a few rumors about it, why don't you tell me in detail?"

Pollivel was pleased and continued.

“There used to be several big shots in Los Santos, one of whom, Pavel, was the helmsman of this orca!”

One of the gang members asked, puzzled.

"He's a big shot, shouldn't he be the captain?"

Pollivel pressed his hand down into the air.

"Don't rush, let me finish. That Pavel is a big shot, but his boss, the one nicknamed 'Little Mute,' is the captain."

Jack began to speak.

“Little mute is not a nice nickname.”

"Don't let the unpleasant nickname fool you, that man is a true legend. Anyone who crosses him will suffer the consequences. He could turn Los Santos upside down!"

Jack poured him a glass of wine.

“Go on.”

Pollivel took a sip of wine to moisten his throat and then spoke.

“Pavel was in charge of the little mute’s trip to the island. There was a lot of wealth on the island, but it was controlled by a blond boss. The blond boss had hundreds of men and countless weapons and equipment, but there was nothing he could do. In the little mute’s eyes, the island was simply undefended!”

Pollywell paused, glanced at the expectant looks in the eyes of the people around him, and then continued.

“The mute guy goes to the blond boss’s vault every few days to take things, and the thing he takes most often is a kind of good wine. Do you know what it is?”

Vito's lips twitched, and he couldn't help but say something.

"Aha, Cisimito!"

Pollivel paused for a moment.

How did you know?

Vito waved his hand.

"You continue."

Pollivel continued.

"Later, Little Mute went to Sin City, and Pavel retired, but the orca had an accident and sank into the sea, taking countless tequilas with it, and now lies quietly on some continental shelf!"

Jack sighed.

"So many top-quality agave plants have been ruined just like that."

"It's not destroyed!"

Pollivel interrupted Jack.

"I heard that Arasaka Yoriyuki, the young master of the Arasaka Group, that rock-and-roll gangster, has found Orca. Now he not only has a lot of original products, but he's also preparing to produce new Cissimito tequila exclusively for rich people!"

A member of the gang interrupted Pollivel.

"How do you, a street urchin, know about Arasaka Yoriyuki? Did he call you?"

Everyone burst into laughter after hearing this, except for Pollivel, whose face turned completely red as he spoke.

"Damn! Believe it or not, not everyone knows this information."

After everyone laughed and joked for a while, Valentino said goodbye and went to another table to continue drinking, leaving the bar to be the personal domain of the Jack and Vito brothers.

Jack sighed.

"If I could drink Cissimito, I would have no regrets in this life!"

Vito laughed.

"If this wine really exists, it shouldn't be difficult for Night City Legend to get a bottle, but the prerequisite is that the Legend is alive."

Jack became interested and said.

“Every Night City legend has a cocktail recipe. Let’s think about it now, so we don’t stammer when someone asks us about it.”

"Okay, you go first."

"Hmm~ Let me think, a glass of vodka, ice, lime juice, and some ginger beer, oh right, and one more essential ingredient."

"A little love?"

"That's so right, Mano, you understand me so well. What's your recipe?"

"Let me think, a glass of rum, no ice, a bit of pure alcohol, five drops of hot chili oil, oh right, and a lemon slice on credit."

"Holy crap, that sounds amazing!"

Jack exclaimed in surprise, but then smiled.

"But that sounds legendary!"

Chapter 19 Ascension

Time marches on, Night City continues to stink, and our David is training.

Mann helps David complete his employer Vito's mission. Mr. Dougher's men have now reunited with Mr. Dougher, but Mann also discovers that although David is talented, he lacks training. In short, David needs special training.

David trains his physical fitness at night, his combat skills in the morning, and his marksmanship in the afternoon. During the training, he also becomes more and more familiar with the other members of Mann's team.

Captain Mann, a burly veteran, is the backbone and decision-maker of the team, responsible for liaising with the middlemen, and has some powerful prosthetics.

Vice-captain Dorio, a burly female warrior, is skilled in hand-to-hand combat and is Mann's right-hand woman. She is adept at calming down the team members.

Lucy, the team hacker, is responsible for team intelligence gathering and network security, and is skilled in using monolithic wires.

Qiwei, a team hacker, is responsible for network intrusion. She wears a mask and is skilled at hacking into prosthetic bodies.

Pierre, also known as Pira, is a technical expert who provides technical support and equipment maintenance to the team.

Rebecca, Pierre's sister, is one of the team's gunners. She is petite but has excellent marksmanship.

boom!

David missed again. As he fired, he unconsciously thought of the day his mother was in a car accident, and he shook his head.

"Only by working hard and improving can I protect my mother!"

David silently recited the command in his mind, then fired a shot. Although it didn't hit the bullseye, it was still much better than before.

Mann then arrived at the shooting range.

"You need to practice with a different gun. The gun Vito gave you will be better suited for you after you've finished practicing with it. Using it now will only make you less comfortable with other guns."

David stroked the short, sturdy Ghost-Slayer axe, then closed the safety and put it in its holster.

"I knew this gun was different."

Rebecca pulled the short, sharp Ghostblade from David's holster with a speed David could hardly react to, and then fired a few shots at the target.

boom! boom! boom!

Three shots hit the target precisely in the head and face.
