"Who's there?!"
The Scavenger's sentries noticed the commotion and had just raised their weapons when Vito's Nine-Tailed Kinetic Assault Rifle burst into flames.
Ta-da!
The distinctive high-frequency firing sound echoed through the empty factory. The immense impact of the kinetic bullets blasted the sentry away, the bullets even penetrating his body and leaving countless bullet holes in the wall behind him, but this was only the beginning.
Vito didn't seek cover as usual. His square mask gleamed eerily, and he looked like a vengeful demon from hell as he walked straight into the pink photography studio.
"Kill him! Kill him now!" the cleaner, who looked like a director, screamed, trying to grab the shotgun next to him.
Vito raised the muzzle of his gun, pointing the barrel directly at the transparent container filled with strong acid.
"You like sour flavors?"
Vito pulled the trigger, pushing the Nine-Tailed Rifle's rate of fire to its limit.
chug chug!
The high-velocity kinetic energy bullets accurately penetrated the bottom and side walls of the container.
Whoosh!
Scalding hot acid mixed with glass shards gushed out. The cleaner director, who was about to raise his gun to fire, was instantly drenched.
"Ah ah ah ah ah!!"
A piercing scream echoed throughout the factory. The strong acid rapidly corroded his skin, muscles, and even his prosthetics. He rolled on the ground like a madman, trying to wipe the acid off his face, but his fingers were also corroded until the white bone was exposed.
Vito watched this scene expressionlessly, the Night City nightscape on his mask still slowly scrolling, seemingly indifferent to the bloodshed at his feet.
The remaining scavengers were terrified; they had never seen such a brutal fighting style.
Vito gave them no chance to escape. He strode forward and slammed the butt of his Nine-Tailed Rifle into a scavenger's face, then pulled the trigger, the close-range spray turning the unfortunate man into a pile of minced meat.
The stopping power of the kinetic energy bullet was on full display at this moment, with blood and bits of flesh splattering everywhere, turning the pink studio into a nauseating dark red.
The air was thick with the smells of burning and sourness. Vito stood in the pool of blood, watching the director who was still convulsing, until he died.
"This is true dissolution."
Vito said coldly, then turned and left, leaving behind only a mess and the still-operating camera that recorded this hellish scene.
……
After dealing with the Cleaners, Vito didn't stop. His anger needed an outlet, and the Night City gangsters were the perfect targets.
According to the files, the Tiger Claw Gang had a shipment of newly smuggled goods hidden in one of their hideouts in the Kabuki district.
Vito swapped the Nine-Tailed Rifle for the Malorian Overture revolver, pulling it from its holster on his thigh.
This gun has been heavily modified by him, and with his newly implanted nervous system, it's practically a handheld cannon.
"Let me give you a name, how about 'Punishment'?"
The streets of the Kabuki district remained bustling, but the interior of this headquarters building was eerily silent.
Vito didn't sneak up. He simply kicked the door open.
"Who the hell has the nerve to do this?!"
The Tiger Claw Gang members in the lobby reacted quickly, pointing several katanas and submachine guns at the door at the same time.
However, when they saw the strange man wearing a glowing cube mask standing at the door, they all froze for a second.
"New here? You'll have to get through first if you want to join the Tiger Claw Gang..."
boom!
A loud bang interrupted the petty leader's nonsense.
The distinctive booming sound of a revolver echoed in the narrow hall during the Malorian Overture.
Vito didn't aim for the head, but instead aimed directly at the small leader's chest.
The massive kinetic bullet released all its energy the moment it hit its target. The Tiger Claw Gang member with the chest armor was thrown backward as if he had been hit by a speeding train. His chest armor and flesh exploded instantly, scattering fragments everywhere.
"Fire! Take him down!"
The remaining Tiger Claw gang members frantically pulled the triggers, and bullets rained down on Vito.
Vito stood still, not moving an inch. The square mask on his face glowed red.
Ding ding ding!
Most of the bullets were deflected, and even those that hit the body were stopped by the subcutaneous armor.
"Is this your firepower?"
The square mask flashed.
He raised his revolver and began a one-sided massacre.
boom! boom! boom!
Each gunshot was accompanied by the dismemberment of a Tiger Claw gang member. Vito's marksmanship was precise and ferocious.
A Tiger Claw gang member attempted to charge forward wielding a katana, but Vito fired a shot directly at his wrist, sending his entire arm and katana flying. A second shot shattered his kneecap, and a third shot blew his skull apart.
Blood stained Vito's coat, but his mask remained spotless, and the miniature Night City cityscape appeared even more eerie in the blood-red light.
The remaining Tiger Claw gang members broke down; they dropped their weapons and tried to escape.
"Want to go?"
Vito's reloading motion was fluid and graceful.
“If you enter my hunting grounds, you will bleed.”
He fired six shots in quick succession; the bullets ricocheted off the wall and accurately struck the backs of the fleeing men.
Within two minutes, not a single person was left standing in the lobby.
Vito stood amidst the pile of corpses, gently blowing away the gunpowder smoke from the muzzle. He walked to a broken mirror and looked at his reflection—the square mask gleaming with an eerie light, and his body covered in blood.
He felt himself changing. Every kill, every time he watched his enemy crumble before his eyes, gave him a strange sense of pleasure.
He holstered his revolver, stepped over a headless corpse, and walked toward the stairwell.
Chapter 32 The Seventh Chapter of the Night
The rain in the city of night is like a layer of grease that can never be wiped clean, plastered on every pane of glass, every face, and every conscience.
Vito's target was a black Villefort—the company's middle management's favorite understated model, with an exterior like a coffin and an interior like an operating room.
He sneaked into the car, and three seconds later, the door lock made a sound so soft it was almost inaudible.
He slipped into the shadows of the back seat, spreading silently like a drop of ink falling into a glass of water.
Twenty minutes later, Hayashi Jiro arrived.
The deputy commander of the 13th squad of the Arasaka Security Department, 43 years old, dressed in a sharp suit, with a tie clip featuring a miniature version of the Arasaka family crest.
He didn't even glance at the rearview mirror when he opened the car door; the company's employees were used to the world automatically making way for them.
The engine growled, and the Villefort glided into the rain. Suddenly, the company dog caught a whiff of blood.
When the car reached the blind spot at the intersection of Sixth Street and the bridge, Vito started moving.
First came the sound: the hammer of the revolver was slowly pressed up by the thumb, and the metallic scraping sound pierced Lin Jiro's eardrums.
"Keep driving until you reach the underpass."
The sound crept out from the shadows of the back seat, close to the back of Lin Jiro's neck.
"Don't step on the brakes, don't turn on the lights, don't make me think you're looking to die."
Lin Jiro's Adam's apple bobbed. He didn't turn around, but he saw a corner of a glowing mask in the rearview mirror—a square, the flowing city night scene, like a portrait without expression.
He did as instructed.
Under the bridge arch, rainwater was blown diagonally by the wind, hitting the bridge piers and breaking into mist.
Lin Jiro turned off the engine, took his hands off the steering wheel, palms up, as if surrendering, and Vito inserted a signal blocking chip into him.
"name."
"Rinjiro."
"Position".
"Deputy Commander of the 13th Team of the Arasaka Security Department".
Tell me something I don't know.
The barrel of the revolver was gently pressed against Hayashi Jiro's temple; the metal was as cold as ice.
Lin Jiro closed his eyes briefly, and when he opened them again, his eyes were bloodshot. He was a connoisseur; when he climbed up from the bottom of the Arasaka Army, he dealt with modified guns every day. This Malorian Overture could definitely smash his head at this distance.
"What do you want to know? Are you from the military branch?"
"Be mindful of your situation. Only I can ask questions. Let's talk about the Tiger Claw Gang first. Any new information?"
“Last month, the Tiger Claw gang disposed of a batch of ‘defective products’ for us. They were volunteers who failed prosthetic tests. We paid them, they provided the venue and manpower, and finally they used a strong acid pool to collect them all. The corpses were turned into Mewtwo material and then sold to middlemen.”
Vito almost laughed.
"Volunteers? That's an interesting way for a corporate employee to put it."
"What kind of experiment was it, and who was in charge?"
Lin Jiro hesitated for a moment, but finally spoke.
"The project's code name is 'White Porcelain.' The security chief is my superior, and I have no right to know anything else."
Vito didn't say anything, but lowered the gun barrel slightly, pressing it against the back of Lin Jiro's head.
"continue."
"The guy from the Tiger Claw Gang is called Jotaro Seiho. He used to be a prosthetics guy, working as an outsourcer at the Arasaka Medical Center before going solo. He's in charge of turning 'flawed products' into something that can be filmed—cutting nerves, installing inhibitors, and preserving pain sensation. He has a spot in a back alley in the Kabuki district; the address is a fake name, but I know his real name."
"say."
"Kenji Kurosawa, behind warehouse number 44, blue roller shutter door, second floor. He has a robotic cat named 'Rin', which bites."
Vito laughed, and the night scene on his mask suddenly accelerated, as if the city was running wildly.
"money."
Lin Jiro paused for half a second, then gestured to Vito that he was going to open the glove box. He took out his company's chip wallet, then reached into the inner pocket of his suit jacket, and stuffed both anonymous Euro cards into the back seat.
"Thirty thousand in total, the cash is in the trunk..."
"Not enough."
Vito pressed the barrel of his gun back against his temple, and this time, he pulled the trigger.
It wasn't a firing, but rather the empty magazine hammer falling with a crisp "click".
Lin Jiro was stunned for a moment. In that instant, Lin Jiro wanted to gamble that Vito's gun was not loaded with bullets, but the bloodstains on Vito's body told him that this man was definitely a crazy guy.
“I also have a private account, the password is…”
"No need, let's get off the bus and talk."
Vito interrupted him.
He asked Lin Jiro to open the car door, and rain poured in instantly, soaking Lin Jiro's suit.
"Get off the bus."
As Lin Jiro stepped out of the car, the neon lights outside the bridge arch were shattered by the rain and fell on his face like colorful knife marks.
Vito stood behind him, the muzzle of his revolver pressed against the back of his head.
"Kneel down."
Lin Jiro didn't move. He was preparing to find an opportunity to activate Sianweistan. He tried to attract Vito's attention with words while looking for a chance.
"I've given you everything you wanted, there's no need to humiliate me anymore, is there?"
Vito pushed his gun forward.
