Vito followed the instructions to the ventilation duct and then frowned.
"No, it's a bug, it's full of ash and oil."
The ventilation ducts in the movie are so clean they reflect light, but in reality, these pipes are full of all sorts of filth, except for feces.
"What's wrong? Is our company employee, Mr. Vito, a germaphobe?"
T-bug made a joke.
"No, it would be too conspicuous if I came out of the pipes covered in dirt, at least among this group of people in suits."
Vito's explanation.
"I'm sorry, I didn't think of that. I'll replan your route."
T-bug immediately used the camera to observe and plan a new route for Vito.
"Okay, but there are two security guards and a data room clerk on this road, you need to be careful!"
Vito walked out of the storage room and made a casual remark.
"There are only three people. I thought that the server room of a big company would be crammed with at least a hundred people."
“Biotechnology isn’t a security company. Besides, the more people in a server room, the easier it is for something to go wrong. Okay, I’ll manually adjust the angle of that camera in front. You quickly pass through from the outer corner. Remember, you only have four seconds.”
T-bug started giving instructions.
"Four, three, two, one, perfect. Okay Vito, the first security guard is at the fork in the road ahead on the right. He's walking in your direction. I'll briefly control the lights behind to distract him. Here's a hint: you quickly cross the intersection without making a sound."
"OK."
"Wait a little longer, wait a little longer, now!"
T-bug seized the moment when the security guard turned around and gave the command. Vito, like a cat, silently skipped across the intersection and continued walking forward.
“There’s only one security guard ahead. He has a blind spot, so just go around him. But then you’ll be in trouble.”
"What trouble?"
Vito asked after getting past security.
"The archives are a glass room, and the clerk is facing you directly. As long as she's not blind, she can see when someone comes in."
"Can we hack her?"
"Yes, but it will leave traces, which biotechnology can then track."
Vito frowned.
"What if I hack her?"
T-bug said helplessly.
“There are four alarms in her data room. If she gets hacked and accidentally triggers them, then you’ll be facing the biotechnology security team.”
Vito stopped before the last corner.
“I’ll go over there, pretend to be there to inform her, and then knock her out with a tranquilizer gun.”
“It’s worth a try. If it fails, I’ll release the virus. You’ll have one minute and twenty seconds to escape. I’ll then notify Jack to launch an attack to draw fire and buy you time.”
Vito steadied himself and walked toward the data room, and T-bug adjusted the camera angle for him as if by magic.
Vito approached the data room and found a familiar face sitting inside—the female employee who had some connection with the real Santos Roger.
Vito walked toward the archives, waving as he did so. When the female staff member looked at him, Vito put his index finger to his lips, gesturing for her to be quiet.
The female employee thought Santos was looking for her, so she quickly looked at the camera and found that the camera's automatic rotation had just turned to the corner.
"Roger, are you crazy? You don't have permission to be here. Get out of here before you get photographed!"
The female employee said in a low voice.
Vito walked into the data room, gazing at the female staff member with deep affection in his eyes, like a man who was unwilling yet helpless.
"OK, I've set the data room monitoring to automatic loop for the first four minutes. Once you leave the data room, go find the server and upload the virus."
With a soft thud, the female employee, whose attention was entirely focused on Vito's face, was hit by a concealed shot.
The anesthetic was injected into the female employee's body, and she quickly slumped into the chair. Vito stepped forward to block her from accidentally triggering the alarm. Then, Vito adjusted her position and made her look like she was taking a nap, slumped over the desk.
Once inside the server room, Vito began to work.
“The data volume is a bit large, but I have optimized the transmission protocol to bypass their dongle.”
T-bug said.
"Give me three minutes, no, two minutes. As long as no one comes in, we can get what we want."
T-bug has always been very confident in his skills.
"Don't rush, patience is the companion of wisdom."
Vito's voice was slow and powerful.
Chapter 45 In this perilous Night City
Mr. Vito obtained the information he wanted, and in order to avoid being tracked, the medical dispute mediation team downloaded the data to an external hard drive. The biotechnology team could not find out who had accessed their servers.
"Uncle Vito is harvesting vegetables."
Vito put away the outer tray and returned the way he came; everything went more smoothly than planned.
"How is Mr. Santos?"
Vito asked T-bug.
"If your dosage is correct, he will wake up next to his car in an hour, and he may feel like he had a dream."
T-bug turned the last camera, and Vito returned to Santos's arable range.
"I think I've stumbled upon some juicy gossip about a workplace romance. I'll tell you all about it on my way back."
"It is better to pursue nothingness than to have nothing to pursue."
"Hey, don't be like that. Don't you know that we field workers rely on this little bit of stuff for snacks!"
“I’m not interested in the staff gossip. Jack, get in the car, and give the information to the reporter. If you’re quick enough, you can still make it to your game.”
"Oh no, I completely forgot about the competition!"
Once in the car and out of disguise, Vito urged Jack to hurry back to the Wolves.
Although Romero wasn't in the mood for drinking, he still downed glass after glass to relieve his anxiety.
He kept a close eye on Channel 54 News. Although he often clashed with the reporters on Channel 54 News, it was undeniable that these people had a keen sense of smell, and they could report on any major events as soon as they happened.
"Sir, could you please give me another bottle of tequila?"
Romano called out to Pepi downstairs.
"I'm only treating you to one bottle; you'll have to pay for the rest yourself!"
Vito's voice rang out at the top of the stairs.
Romero heard the sound and jumped up, knocking over an empty bottle on the table.
"Success?"
His voice trembled slightly.
"It's done. They don't know who did it. Of course, if you report these things, they can at least be sure it was you who did it."
Vito handed Romeno an external plate.
Romero took the document and immediately began reading it. Whether from excitement or the effects of alcohol, his face turned bright red.
"Hahahaha, you guys really are the best! I'll have Roger transfer the money to you right away, damn it! With these things, News 54's gossip is definitely no match for me!"
Seeing his client's excited expression, Vito couldn't help but say something.
"At least Channel 54 sends me messages every day with interesting things, but to be honest, I've never seen your news."
Romero didn't think much of it and carefully put away the outer plate.
"Those people just keep spreading messages about entertainment to the death; what I want to do is deliver big news that can awaken the public!"
Vito shrugs his shoulders.
"Alright, I hope you don't get assassinated by those biotech people. Is there anything else? If not, I'm leaving. I have other things to do."
"Please do as you wish!"
Romano was overwhelmed with excitement. All he wanted to do was rush home, review the information, and then create a big news story.
He shouted down to Peppy downstairs.
"Check, bartender. That bottle of tequila is yours for the taking, hahaha."
Pepi, unfazed, put away the wine and muttered something.
"This one is quite generous, unlike the last one, where they wanted a refund after I drank half of it."
During this period, Vito and Jack would order a bottle of wine for the clients whenever they took a job at Wild Wolves. The bigger the job, the better the wine. Gradually, business negotiations at Wild Wolves started using the name of the wine to indicate the size of the job.
The mercenaries would also imitate Vito's squad, ordering a bottle of wine for their clients in the Wild Wolves, but most of the time they couldn't finish the job within the time it took to drink a bottle. Sometimes the clients would even smash the bottle on their heads to vent their anger at messing up the mission.
……
"Jack, drive faster! Old Frye and Old Wesley are calling me nonstop!"
Vito urged Jack on.
"I'm already going very fast. Any faster and this big guy will crash into the sidewalk and kill a bunch of people!"
Jack was fully focused and floored the gas pedal, hurtling towards the track.
beep~ beep~
It was Roger calling.
"Hello, Your Majesty, is there something you need?"
“I’m truly amazed that you completed the commission in just one afternoon, Vito.”
Although Roger said that, her voice didn't reveal anything different from usual.
"Precision and efficiency are essential; I can't ruin my own reputation."
Vito swerved the steering wheel, allowing Jack to dodge a Tiger Claw gang speeder who suddenly appeared.
"Very professional, the client is very satisfied and gave you an extra tip. Your reputation will soon be well-known in the afterlife, so I won't charge you any advertising fees. It was a pleasure doing business with you."
Rogge transferred 35,000 euros to Vito.
Vito whistled.
"Phew~ The media guys are more generous than the president of the new America. This is worth ten thousand more than risking a hail of bullets to save the president!"
According to Rogge's information, Vito was usually such an unreliable person, she chuckled.
"In the next life, as long as you have the ability, you will be able to earn the corresponding reward."
Vito pursed his lips.
"You must have made quite a bit of money too, Your Majesty."
Roger laughed.
"Of course, but I gave you 45%. Normally, newcomers should only get 30%, but I admire you. Keep up the good work, mercenary."
After finishing his sentence, Roger ended the call.
"Damn it, I got sucked by a vampire in my next life!"
Vito muttered a curse under his breath.
squeak~
The screeching of brakes rang out, and as soon as Jack came to a stop, he jumped out of the car, grabbed Vito, and ran towards the stadium, the two of them like passengers who were about to miss their flight.
Fortunately, the two fighters in the previous match were evenly matched, and they fought for a full twelve rounds before the winner was decided by the score.
