"What secrets have you discovered about them?"
Vito took a sip of the freshly served whiskey.
"No, I've just been cooped up for too long and wanted to talk."
Tommasino mingle with Vito.
"Really? You little brat, you're not hiding something from your old man, are you?"
Vito moved to the side.
"Don't be so sensitive. When I was doing that job for Hans, I saw their data, which was about prosthetic implants for youth team members."
Thomasino looked at Vito, seemingly somewhat surprised.
"That's all? You should have told me sooner, then I wouldn't have wasted my time going to Thiago's shabby lab to watch a few kids sweating it out the day after tomorrow."
"You know about this?"
"Of course I know, many people in continental Europe are doing this, you know, a successful sport can bring a lot of wealth."
Vito finished his whiskey in one gulp.
"Alright, I was making a big fuss, Don Mosso. I won't be surprised if I see your plans to destroy the world next time, because your bottom line is really low, almost to the earth's core."
Thomasino put his arm around Vito and poured him a full glass of whiskey, so full it was almost overflowing.
“Little Vito, you are so righteous. When will you get rid of this bad habit of sympathizing with others? But Thiago has something to hide from his partners on the continent. Wade and I have discussed it, and Thiago can no longer do business in Dogtown.”
So, I hope you clash with Thiago the day after tomorrow, interrupt his rambling, and then you can put your talents to good use. And don't let me see Thiago again.
After saying that, Thomasino handed the cup to Vito.
Vito didn't take it; instead, he picked up the whiskey bottle directly.
"You used to make me Zeta's assassin, and now you want me to be your Mafia's button maker? Old Tom, you've got quite a few identities."
Thomasin put the cup down.
"Faced with such a powerful force, you don't even have the slightest thought of joining? You're still going to go find Thiago with a gun, while for me, if I really wanted to make Thiago's business disappear, it would only be a matter of saying a word. We people never care about the rules."
Vito took a sip of whiskey.
"Then why don't you say so?"
Thomasinho smiled.
"Because it doesn't look good."
Vito put down the bottle and asked the ghost hound soldier next to him to bring another bottle of whiskey.
“Old Tom, you’re just people who trample on the conventional laws and then create new ones to control the system. Rather than saying you don’t care about the rules, it’s more accurate to say you’re enjoying the pleasure of trampling on them. You can never truly do whatever you want.”
Thomasinho still had a smile on his face.
“Well said, little brat, I can’t help but applaud. But think about it, if you stand higher, can’t you do more? With a single word, you can bring justice to the people. With a single word, those you couldn’t save before can live. With a single word, those who follow you can risk their lives for your goals.”
Looking at Tommasino's face, Vito couldn't understand why Tommasino would go to such lengths to entice him to join him.
“The stories from my hometown tell me that sometimes you can lead people forward, and sometimes you are pushed forward by the people behind you. I feel pretty good now, without having to look down on everyone else.”
Thomasinho's smile vanished.
"Hey kid, where's your hometown? Why are you so nosy!"
Vito poured Tommasino a full glass of whiskey.
"Let's drink, Old Tang Tou. You have a lot of identities and secrets. Stop thinking about making me your son or your company dog."
The tower and the demons told me to keep my distance when dealing with you, and to be wary of your lies. They said I would get the job done within three days of our meeting.
After saying that, Vito handed a full glass of whiskey to Thomasinho.
Chapter 129 Gray Track
After arriving in Dogtown, many things seemed to become like octagonal mirrors, each reflecting different angles and each with its own logic.
This shipment is no longer a simple mix of black, white, and gray; it's a cesspool created by the combined anxieties of many people.
"You waited until Thomasino returned to Night City before coming to see me. That's a careful choice. Would you like some tea? I roasted it myself and just ground it today."
In Mr. Henz's office at the Concerned Club, Vito met with the middleman of Dogtown.
"No, thank you. I don't like matcha."
Mr. Henz sat down opposite Vito and placed a tablet on the table.
"Are you still used to Dogtown?"
"It's alright, not too bad, but not too good either."
"I guess the less-than-ideal part must include Dogtown's narrow roads, which are comparable to those on the European continent."
Mr. Henz chatted with Vito like a kind elder.
Vito wasn't in a hurry; he would answer Hanz's questions, but wouldn't speak unless Hanz asked.
Gradually, Hanz's topic began to be incorporated into the delegation.
“I don’t usually break a delegation into several parts, but this time is a bit special. Since you said you’re not inserting a chip, then take a look at this data.”
Vito picked up the tablet and looked at it carefully. This was a simplified version of the data he had obtained, but the content was largely the same.
"What's next?"
Mr. Henz did not answer directly, but asked Vito instead.
"Have you seen Dr. Thiago? Last night?"
Vito nodded and recounted what had happened the previous night. He was confident that even if he didn't tell, Henz would find out eventually, since there were many people around when they met Thiago, and one of them might have been Henz's ear.
"When we met, Tommasino said you had a conflict with him, but he didn't admit it, saying that you were on good terms. Later, Tommasino said that you and Tommasino decided to make his business disappear."
Mr. Hanz continued to ask questions, his voice calm and unhurried.
"So which one do you think is true?"
Vito estimated that both things were true. It was not unusual for people like Dog Town to be smiling today and to have others shovel them down tomorrow. However, he did not say anything and just shook his head.
"I don't know, and I don't want to know. I'm just a mercenary who does the work, regardless of who's real or fake."
Mr. Hanz chuckled softly.
"If you say you're not from the Mussol family, I certainly won't believe you. You're just as slippery as old Tommasino."
I'll cut to the chase. Thiago and I have indeed worked well together. His businesses have made my friends a lot of money. However, he's keeping things from his friends in Europe and has been secretly in contact with several companies in Night City. I've even heard that he's getting very close to the new American government.
I can be indifferent, but my friends on the continent can't, and neither can Colonel Kurt Hansen. In their eyes, Thiago is trying to steal from his friends while eating their food.
Vito checked the information in his mind and then replied.
"But we don't need to go through all this trouble to take him down, do we?"
Mr. Hanz took out a chip and inserted it into the tablet.
"They didn't need it before, but they do now. He supposedly has a new technology that every old, wealthy person wants. You know, older people are obsessed with the idea of turning back the clock, and they're willing to take the gamble even if it's fake."
Therefore, if Thiago dies, those petty old men who control wealth and power will hate the people of Dogtown, which is something no one wants to see.
Vito now finds that these so-called high-level officials have even more rules to break, he said nonchalantly.
"If you want to live forever, go find the Fountain of Youth. I know it. Find a handsome young man to trick a mermaid into shedding her tears and dripping them into a holy cup. Then drink the water from the fountain and you'll be young again."
Mr. Hanz had a smile in his eyes.
"That's funny, Vito, are you kidding me?"
"You were the one who joked with me first, Mr. Henz. Arasaka's Relic is nothing more than the transmission of a soul imprint. Anyone who believes in true physical immortality is a fool."
Mr. Hands clapped his hands to indicate his agreement.
"But those elderly people are very willing to pay for these kinds of stories. If you find the so-called Fountain of Youth today, you can set up a stall and sell it to them who are lining up in long lines tomorrow."
Therefore, let Thiago give up his business, spare his life, and let him leave Dogtown alone.
"Aren't you worried that one day he might change his fortunes and return to power?"
Mr. Hanz smiled.
“Vito, you’re quite the storyteller. Thiago isn’t important; his business is. He can only make a comeback if he actually creates a magic potion that reverses aging.”
Vito nodded and stood up. The matter had been discussed to a sufficient extent. All that remained was to force Thiago out of Dogtown tomorrow.
Big Joe is right. These guys are hypocrites. They're afraid of looking bad or getting their suits dirty when they stab someone in the back.
Henz said to Vito, who was about to leave.
"Have a good trip. I've prepared a little something for you, which is perfect for the road conditions in Dogtown."
……
In Thiago's laboratory, a man Vito had seen slowly rose from the operating chair.
She was completely naked and moved slowly, as if she hadn't yet adapted to her new body.
"How do you feel?"
A voice asked.
A woman's clear voice rang out.
"It feels pretty good. I'll get used to it quickly. Scapolo, do I look good?"
Scapullo pinched the woman's cheek.
"Walking around the streets with the face of Arasaka the Traitor, can your brain really do anything for us? Are you even planning to name yourself Kim Yeon?"
Kim Yeon pretended to be in a lot of pain and said coquettishly.
"I really like her, Scarporo. Hasn't anyone told you you're really strong? You're going to crush my face!"
Scarpoll released his grip and draped a coat over Kim Yeon.
"This isn't a cyberspace. Put on some clothes; it'll make you look more like a human being."
Kim Yeon didn't care at all.
"Like a human? That's ridiculous. Let's go, I can't help but want to see the other people."
Scaplow inserted a chip into Kim Yeon's brain.
"You go back first. The Dream Project has begun. I need to stay in Dogtown for a while to bring Starfire back."
Kim Yeon opened her coat, hugged Scarplow, and whispered in his ear.
“I felt that last time too, but why is a lost guy more important than us?”
Scarpo turned his face toward Kim Yeon, and the two felt each other's breath.
"Because Xinghuo is the most human-like one, and is the most important part of the plan."
Kim Yeon pressed her face against Scapolo's, her hot breath hitting him.
"Do I look like a human now?"
Scarplow used his index finger to push Kim Yeon's lips apart.
"Stop wasting your time here and get to work. The council elections are about to begin, and there are still many important people on the list whose issues haven't been resolved."
Kim Yeon pulled Scapolo's fingers away, stood on tiptoe, and quickly touched Scapolo's lips.
"To be a human being, you have to work. It's so tiring. Goodbye, Mr. ED Scarplow!"
