Chapter 105 Say it again, who did you save?
Jonathan treated Clark and Rune with completely different attitudes, but this was not due to his differential treatment, but rather because the two men had worlds apart in personality.
After Rune made money, his first thought was to renovate the farm, buy himself a car, and then save the money. And Clark? He would definitely spend it lavishly, buying snacks, clothes, and shoes. At school, Clark was always the first person to wear the latest designer brands.
Of course, Clark would buy designer clothes for his parents and Rune quite often. But every time Jonathan saw Clark doing this, he felt a headache coming on. Should he say something? But this was money Clark had worked hard to earn; if he didn't say anything, Jonathan worried that one day Clark wouldn't even be able to afford his own car insurance.
If Clark could be as frugal as Rune, Jonathan would be laughing in his sleep.
Rune was quite nonchalant about it, largely thanks to the incredibly lucrative job he was doing. Do you understand how valuable it is to wake up in the morning to a Jerusalem-shaped puppet whining at you?
Back in London, Constantine had already amassed a room full of beautiful puppets, the kind you could actually play with. Every time Rune saw Constantine, he would remind him not to ruin himself. After all, if the future Constantine set his mind to it, he could even destroy a specific parallel universe. Rune didn't want to see such a magical SSR-level character ruined in his hands.
Although this line of work sounds somewhat shameful, it's incredibly lucrative. It's enough to support not only Superman, but even a shark king. Furthermore, with Rune now selling alchemical items and potions, his wealth will only continue to grow.
"Alright, let's go find the person you saved." Rune patted his clothes, his casual wear now replaced by his familiar white suit. The others weren't surprised, as he'd also changed everyone else's clothes into formal attire. However, Martha didn't want to go out, and no one insisted.
"Are you driving?" Clark asked. Then, under the watchful eyes of Jonathan and Rune, he remained silent for a while before saying dejectedly, "Oh! Damn it, I definitely need to find a chance to get my driver's license."
However, when Jonathan drove to the address left by the rescued person, he was somewhat angry—in front of Jonathan was a towering building with a glass curtain wall covering its exterior, reflecting the sunlight in a dazzling light.
In the upper middle part of the building, there are several huge red letters: Lex.
"God, this is terrible!" Jonathan sighed, forcibly suppressing his anger. Lexcorp was notorious; it had done every imaginable evil, from monopolies and hiring gangsters for unfair competition to other illegal activities. And its boss, Lionel Luther, was an arrogant, ambitious, and extremely controlling man.
"Are you sure this is the place?" Jonathan asked.
Clark nodded, completely shattering Jonathan's last hope.
So Jonathan took the two children to the lobby of the building and found the receptionist. She was a very pretty little girl.
"Do you have an appointment?" she asked with a polite smile.
"No, please inform them that the person from this morning came looking for Luther," Clark said with a smile in his magnetic voice. He had grown quite tall and possessed a handsome face that exuded righteousness and a sunny disposition.
With a confident smile on his face, he made the little girl blush slightly before quickly leaving.
Clark looked at the little girl blankly, then whispered to Rune, "Is she afraid of me?"
Both Rune and Jonathan heard this. Jonathan pretended not to hear, while Rune covered his face. "Look at you, you think you can get Lana Lang?"
A moment later, a boy strode over. He actually looked quite mature, with a slightly thin face, delicate features, and a cunning and shrewd look in his eyes. His slender build gave him an air of intelligence and competence. If it weren't for his slightly frivolous behavior at that moment, Jonathan might have even mistaken him for a grown man.
Of course, what impressed Jonathan the most was his head, which was as big as a light bulb—perhaps this is what is called being extremely intelligent?
"Luther!" Clark walked over happily and shook hands with the boy.
"Hello, Clark." Luther seemed pleased, at least on the surface. He noticed the man and boy behind Clark, deliberately adopting a mature demeanor, shaking hands with Rune and Jonathan in turn, then asked, "And these two are..."
"This is my brother." Clark patted Rune on the shoulder happily, then pointed to Jonathan. "This is my father. He's here to see you."
Hearing this, Luther led the group to the upstairs conference room. Clark then explained their purpose. Luther readily agreed. This matter would not only benefit Clark, but also himself, and even the Lexcorp Corporation itself.
The Lexcorp has a terrible reputation these days, and that's a mild way of putting it. In the eyes of ordinary people in the metropolis, the Lexcorp is almost comparable to the US government. These days, when citizens encounter misfortune, half will curse the government, and the other half will curse the Lexcorp.
Clark saving Luther, and Luther reciprocating by gifting him a luxury car, not only allows Clark to cultivate an image of gratitude but also provides an opportunity for publicity. With a bit of luck, his father might even be able to retire a few years earlier if those foolish shareholders actually believe in his supposedly grateful persona.
With such a good opportunity, Luthor naturally gave his full support. He not only approved it on the spot, but also summoned reporters from the Daily Planet and the television station, and even treated the three of them to a sumptuous dinner. After Clark finished his interview, Luthor personally escorted them out of Lex Building.
As he left, Rune glanced back at Luther. The future infamous villain was all smiles, and even nodded at Rune when he looked at him.
Rune smiled and then turned to leave.
Jonathan complained the whole way. The LexCorp chefs were excellent, and the food was delicious, but that still couldn't bring a smile to Jonathan's face at Luther's. As a farmer, Jonathan's previous contact with LexCorp was limited to its factory in town. LexCorp had bribed local government officials to turn a blind eye to the factory's excessive emissions.
Jonathan's farm is located downstream of the river that was being drained.
"I should have asked you beforehand who you saved—" Jonathan said resentfully.
