A translucent white tiger emerged from the white mist, but perhaps because it was a guardian deity, it did not appear ferocious.

"It's a success..." Rune understood. The Guardian Charm didn't necessarily have to be built with happiness; any positive emotion should work. Rune turned to Afu with a smile: "Thank you for your hospitality these past few days. I think I've found what I want to do."

"It seems I'm the only one left in this manor." Afu sighed. In just a few days, Zatanna and Bruce had both left, and Rune was leaving too... Sigh, he really did prefer a more lively home.

Looking at the old man, Rune's heart softened, and he immediately said, "Maybe I'll come back for a free meal sometime. Just don't look down on me then." But in his heart, Rune sighed. The young master that Afu was looking forward to would die in this long trial, and only Batman would return... Afu would be very busy then.

Just as Rune turned to leave, Afu grabbed his sleeve: "Please wait for me."

Not long after, Afu reappeared, pulling a small suitcase in his left hand and holding a cell phone in his right: "Take this. When you meet Miss Zatanna and the other mages again, you can't be wearing this outfit."

Rune looked at his clothes and couldn't help but laugh.

After leaving Wayne Manor, Rune returned to the place near the slums. Although Wayne Manor was more luxurious, with a more comfortable bed and better food, he still felt a bit uncomfortable living as a guest. He had only stayed in this cramped rented room for a few days, but he felt much more at ease here.

Rain began to fall from the sky. Rune cursed his bad luck and was about to open the door when he heard a whoosh. He watched helplessly as his pocket was slashed open and his bone wand was severed. A throwing knife struck Rune squarely in the chest. Fortunately, thanks to Hogwarts' protection, the knife only grazed his body.

What is this... Rune stared in astonishment as the throwing knife slid down. His defenses were already impervious to small-caliber bullets, so in theory, this throwing knife shouldn't have been able to penetrate his defenses at all, but it just inexplicably left him with a wound.

As Rune's wand was destroyed, a man dressed in black armor and wearing an owl helmet emerged from the darkness.

Rune's pupils contracted. It was the claws of the Court of Owls. This also explained the problem of the throwing knife breaking through the defense. The throwing knife should be made of N metal. This metal can not only counteract gravity and allow the user to fly, but also make the user immortal and regenerate severed limbs. Most importantly, this metal has the effect of breaking magic.

Rune quickly retreated and summoned Fiendfire. From the crimson flames, a serpent monster made of fire rushed out and bit at the claws. However, the monster did not even try to dodge. Instead, it stared straight at Rune, its eyes blazing with killing intent.

Some of the flames were blocked by the N metal, but the Fiendfire was not without effect. The powerful flames penetrated the glass goggles on the opponent's owl helmet and ignited the opponent's head.

"So that's all..." Rune thought to himself, but he didn't let his guard down. Instead, he continued to retreat, casting an Iron Armor Charm on himself to prevent his opponent from resorting to desperate measures. However, at that moment, two sharp blades easily shattered his Iron Armor Charm, even leaving him with a deep, bone-revealing X-shaped wound.

Rune turned his head and another Claw came into view. He was wearing the same black armor as Claw One, but his owl-shaped helmet was not a full-coverage one.

Rune instantly understood the opponent's plan: one threat would draw fire, while the other would launch a sneak attack. He also immediately recognized the opponent's weakness—the chin!

Fiend reappeared, lunging straight at Claw Two, but Claw Two didn't need to draw attention; it nimbly leaped away, its speed even more than Fiend's. Rune's heart sank. Meanwhile, Claw One was still alive, rushing to within three meters of Rune.

"Obstacles are numerous!"

Hold them off, at least until Claw One dies!

Claw Number One swung his blade, slashing down with a cracking sound. He tried to continue, but found himself blocked. Unable to hold on any longer, he collapsed to the ground. However, Claw Number Two threw several throwing knives, completely blocking Rune's escape route.

Rune had not received any systematic evasion training, so he was immediately stabbed hard by two throwing knives. He felt a chill, and what was even more despairing was that red eyes appeared in the darkness. Next to the burning corpse of Claw Number One, two Claws wearing owl helmets stepped out, and four more Claws emerged from behind Claw Number Two.

We must escape!

Rune frantically used Iron Armor Charms and numerous obstacles while retreating. The rainwater on the ground transformed into ferocious beasts, charging forward to tear at the Claws. Claw Number Two caught the giant bear's paws with his slash, pushing and slashing, the bear's head falling to the ground and returning to the rainwater. Several other Claws easily dealt with the beasts nearby and continued running towards Rune, throwing knives incessantly, but each one fell to the ground after passing through two or three layers of protective magic.

They have extensive combat experience; we can't waste our magic!

Rune changed tactics, turning the rain into barbed wire that ensnared the claws. Caught off guard by their high speed, the claws all tumbled and fell flat on their faces. Seeing that his blocking tactic was effective, Rune breathed a sigh of relief.

The solid concrete road suddenly softened and turned into a swamp. The claws, having just severed their restraints with their N-metal blades, immediately sank into the mud. They struggled aimlessly, but this only made them sink deeper.

One of the claws slashed wildly at the swamp, but the result was that the transformation spell failed, and the part of the blade below the knee merged into the ground.

Solved!

Rune finally relaxed a little, but then he suddenly felt a chill on his shoulder, followed by a loud gunshot.

A sniper with superb marksmanship, and whose bullets contain N metal!

After being thrown back by the force of the bullet, Rune didn't hesitate. He immediately got up, turned around, and sprinted towards the river. He could no longer stroll around as leisurely as before; facing this accurate sniper, every second counted and he could be shot again.

One shot, and it hit! It pierced his left arm and lodged in his right leg muscle. The throwing knife behind him was blocked by numerous obstacles. Two hundred meters from the river.

Bang!

Perhaps due to the unpredictable wind direction in the rain, the shot missed. The sniper on the other side grew anxious. Rune, meanwhile, used the rain to conjure a cheetah, carrying his now trapped self as they ran. They were still a hundred meters from the river.

Thud, thud!

Two shots were fired in quick succession. One missed, but the other struck the cheetah, instantly turning it into rain. Rune was thrown away. He felt icy cold all over, his breathing was rapid, and his head throbbed with pain from the constant casting of spells. He was now only three meters away from the river.

A series of hurried footsteps approached from a distance, and a cold-looking man walked over, followed by a large group of gangsters.

It's Falcone...

He moved closer, and someone held an umbrella over him. The sniper in the distance stopped firing.

"What a pretty little face." He reluctantly pulled out his pistol. "What a pity, someone offered a fortune for your life..."

The trigger is pulled...
