Chapter 40: The Weasley Family Wins MVP
When Rune took the stage, whispers inevitably arose from the audience, and several red-robed wizards had to take the initiative to maintain order.
Even though they had been informed in advance that a young man had received the Order of Merlin, these purebloods and potion masters thought that even if he was young, he should already be an adult. But when they saw this handsome boy, they realized that the person who received the highest level of the Order of Merlin had not yet graduated.
The purebloods seemed furious. What kind of contribution could a child possibly make? It would be better to award it to me than to him.
In fact, this is exactly what these purebloods do. Unless some wizards make a really significant contribution, these Merlin Medals will be divided up in advance. This award is actually far less valuable than it seems. The most notorious Merlin Medal recipient is Fudge, who is smiling at the camera on the side—at least the purebloods will put on a show.
The potions masters, on the other hand, were much calmer, with many of them looking on with anticipation, as Wizengamor's propaganda mentioned that someone had discovered a new direction for potion research.
Reporters began snapping photos frantically, convinced that the child's appearance would boost their newspaper sales. Only Rita seemed somewhat distracted.
After the speech began, Rune started to introduce the concept of medicinal cuisine from simple to complex. Under Professor Snape's guidance, Rune mentioned brown sugar ginger tea, ginseng and donkey-hide gelatin, which are respectively believed to help with fertility, prolong life and beautify the skin, thus stirring the emotions of everyone present.
As expected, upon hearing this, everyone present began to stir. Some questioned, while others were excited, and the scene quickly became difficult to control.
"What makes you so sure these medicines are effective?" A potion master couldn't hold back any longer and stood up to ask.
"That's what I'm going to talk about next," Rune said. "I think all of you potion masters here still remember the principles for selecting potion ingredients: symbolism and practicality..."
After Rune finished his speech, thunderous applause erupted from the audience. Most of the purebloods didn't even want to linger for a moment; finally, someone had developed a potion that could increase the chances of conception, and the ingredients were simple, the process minimal. They couldn't wait to go home and try it out. It's important to understand that inheritance has always been the most valued yet most unavoidable thing for pureblood families. Apart from the Weasley family, an exception, other purebloods find it difficult to continue their bloodline.
Take the Malfoys, for example. They had no shortage of money or connections, and their home was filled with all sorts of treasures, yet they managed to have only one son. It's fair to say that a wizarding couple would be lucky to have two children after marriage; the Weasleys were probably the only ones in the entire wizarding world to have seven.
Reporters rushed to Rune, eager to interview the newly crowned Merlin Medal recipient. Potions masters wanted to discuss new potion-making directions, but they couldn't even outnumber the reporters. Rune managed to smooth things over with a few words to the reporters before approaching the potions masters himself.
Rune gave the potion masters a brief introduction to the new concept of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and recommended medical classics such as the Compendium of Materia Medica and the Treatise on Febrile Diseases. However, he was stumped by the potion masters' bizarre questions. Rune only had a rudimentary understanding of TCM, knowing that medicinal herbs are classified into four properties (hot, cold, warm, and cool) and that the five internal organs correspond to the five elements. But beyond that, Rune was clueless. After all, he hadn't been a medical student in his previous life.
"Hey, I never thought I'd have to learn Chinese at my age," a potions master with a full head of white hair remarked, though he was complaining, he had a smile on his face.
Another master patted Rune on the shoulder: "Thank you so much for sharing. You could have gained fame and fortune through this new field, but instead you've shown us a new path. I think you're already much better than most of us."
Upon hearing this, Rune repeatedly said he dared not. He knew that his reason for sharing was simply to obtain a potion recipe that would make it easy to find the ingredients. If he had actually lived in the world of Harry Potter, Rune certainly wouldn't have shared it so directly.
He knew he was far less selfless than these masters thought.
"Thank you very much for your selfless gift. On behalf of the Malfoy family, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to you." The person who came to express his gratitude was a man. He was wearing a crisp black robe, with light blond hair that was neatly combed. He had delicate features, frighteningly white skin, and stood up straight with an arrogant look in his eyes.
Rune immediately realized who the person in front of him was.
"You're welcome, Mr. Lucius," he replied politely. "I wish you both a healthy baby soon."
The blonde woman Lucius was arm-in-arm with blushed instantly, but she maintained her composure and bowed to Rune. Westerners rarely expressed themselves this way, but Lucius and his wife appreciated the blessing. Although they had only chatted briefly, a faint smile remained on Lucius's face. Perhaps he was also eager to do something with his wife, so he quickly bid farewell to Rune as well.
The potions masters chuckled softly as they watched Lucius's wife hurriedly pull her husband away.
When Dumbledore left with Rune, it was already late, and the moon was high in the sky.
"Why take off this medal?" Dumbledore asked, looking at Rune's chest. Rune had already removed the gold medal with the colorful ribbon.
"Because it serves no purpose other than making me proud, Headmaster," Rune replied, taking the medal out of his pocket, looking down at it.
"What a fine medal," Dumbledore said with a smile, taking the medal from Rune's hand and carefully pinning it on Rune's neck. "It's not useless. Every time I see it, I'm reminded of your selfless sharing of your knowledge with others. You make me proud, Rune."
Rune looked at Dumbledore, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
The most powerful wizard in the magical world patted Rune on the shoulder, looking at him with satisfaction, his face beaming as if he himself had received the medal.
"If I received this medal at your age, I would pretend to be calm and wear it for three months."
"Do you really want me to wear it for three months?"
"Haha, of course not. Actually, I won't stop you if you want to take it off now."
"Then I choose to respect your hard work, Principal."
