Chapter 517 The Three Sanctuaries of the DC Universe
Chapter 517 The Three Sanctums of the DC Universe
Rune certainly wouldn't go alone; he would take Raven, Clark, and Barbara with him.
The locations chosen for the three Saints in the DC Universe are quite interesting. Among many regions around the world, Wong chose Shanghai, China; Gotham City, USA; and the Rock of Eternity. Although the Rock of Eternity can be accessed from Philadelphia, it is not actually located on Earth.
Fortunately, it's not yet time for housing prices to soar in the future; otherwise, Wang might have had to put in a lot more effort to buy a bungalow in Shanghai that would be able to afford the sanctuary's mission.
House prices in Gotham vary greatly. Houses in non-core areas are incredibly cheap. Even without paying, you can usually find a house where the owner has long since disappeared, as long as you're not afraid of encountering gang deals or witnessing murders.
It's important to know that there was a reason why the previous homeowner mysteriously disappeared.
House prices in Gotham's inner city are outrageously high, with most of the money going towards security. However, for mages, if it's just a sanctuary, the inner and outer areas don't really matter much; they can simply stay indoors and set up more defensive magic arrays.
Rune was somewhat surprised that Shazam was willing to offer the Rock of Eternity to the Sorcerer Supreme.
After all, the seven deadly sins are sealed there.
"Do you think this outfit suits me?" Clark tugged at Rune, hoping to get help from his cousin about his attire. After all, it was his first time visiting a region where many mages gathered, so he was both excited and a little apprehensive.
Rune's train of thought was interrupted, so he turned to look at Superman and noticed that he was dressed unusually formally in a dark blue suit. It must be said, Clark's inverted triangle physique made him a natural clothes hanger.
"Of course." Rune gave his assessment. Not only Clark, but he himself was dressed in a solemn black robe, wearing a pointed hat, and with a snake emblem embroidered on his chest.
Raven stayed by Rune's side the whole time. She was dressed exactly like Rune, but the little girl never wondered why Rune was dressed like that.
This is the Hogwarts uniform, and Rune happens to be a Slytherin student, a status he has always been proud of, even though most of the magic in this school isn't actually that powerful.
In fact, Rune's habit of using language to mock others was inspired by Professor Snape, although Rune doubted whether his sarcasm could reach even a third of the professor's level.
Barbara did get her own clothes these past few days—provided of course by Rune. She was quite attentive to this trip, or rather, what woman wouldn't put on makeup before going out?
"But—" Clark frowned, pointed to himself, then to Rune and Raven, "I see you're all wearing robes, so I was thinking—well, maybe I should wear a robe like you?"
"There's no need." Rune helped Raven tidy his appearance. "Look at Constantine, can you tell he's a mage from his clothes?"
Clark sighed; it was indeed impossible. Constantine always liked to wear a beige trench coat and disliked doing laundry, which caused his trench coat to quickly turn a dark yellow.
Even in the Harry Potter universe, wizards have a policy called the Law of Secrecy, the main function of which is to prevent magic from being exposed to ordinary people.
"Alright, alright," Clark raised his hands in surrender, giving up on wasting time on the topic. He looked at the portal Rune had already opened and shouted, "Mom, I'm off!"
"Take care on your journey," Martha replied, then added, "There are other people too. Have fun."
She was not young, nor was she a wizard, so she was unwilling to go out and participate in such formal activities with the other children.
As perhaps the most important magical node in the entire universe, the Eternal Rock is undoubtedly the core of these three sanctuaries.
Therefore, this location was chosen as the venue for the ceremony.
When Rune led the other three into the Eye of Eternity, the first thing that caught their eye was a seemingly ordinary building: dark brick walls, arched windows, and a solemn gate—
Mages dressed in various styles were continuously pouring into the building. Many of them noticed Rune. Some mages took the initiative to greet him, some were obsequious, and some sincerely thanked Rune for introducing a new spellcasting system to the entire magical world.
.
However, most of the mages around were whispering among themselves. Among them were mages who were frightened by Rune's past actions, as well as some who had conservative mage friends. These people were talking badly about Rune behind his back.
This is Rune's current status: a small number of mages are grateful to him, while most fear him. If Professor Snape were here, he would most likely sneer.
"Ha, I told you he'd become the Dark Lord sooner or later, didn't I?"
However, Rune didn't care about those who feared him and were too lazy to talk bad about him. He just dealt with the mages who wanted to gain benefits by flattering him with a dark face, while smiling at the mages who sincerely thanked him.
Individual heroism is prevalent in universes like DC and Marvel, and Rune only needs to win over a few sorcerers to manipulate the future of the entire magical world—such as Constantine, Doctor Fate, and Wong.
However, he mostly chose to let the magical world develop peacefully, until Naboo angered him.
After finally dealing with all the mages who came forward and dared to communicate with him, Rune led the few people behind him into the building.
The interior of the building is far more expansive than it appears from the outside, and the air is filled with a complex odor—the musty smell of old parchment, the mysterious fragrance of dried herbs, and a mixture of various strange smells.
"Achoo!"
Barbara sneezed, then whispered something to the raven, who answered in a low voice while following Rune closely.
Soon, they met acquaintances there.
"Rune, you've finally arrived!" Zatana was still wearing her tuxedo, but this time she wore stockings. After looking Rune up and down, she smiled and exclaimed, "You look so 'wizard-like'!"
"Isn't my outfit a bit too ordinary?" Clark's humorous self-deprecation made Zatanna cover her mouth and laugh.
After exchanging pleasantries with Raven for a while, Zatana turned her gaze to Barbara. Looking at the other woman's face, she asked with some doubt, "Have we... met before?"
