Chapter 524 Ares's Incompetent Teammate
Chapter 524 Ares's Incompetent Teammate
"Something's wrong with Gotham Sanctuary. Can anyone take a look?"
Wang was anxious. In just a moment, the shield would be fully deployed, and ordinary people would be free from the invasion of monsters such as demons and otherworldly creatures. But at this moment, one of the sanctuaries encountered a problem.
He dared not imagine the current state of Gotham Sanctuary and could only turn to the others present for help.
Clark looked around and found that the situation was under control. Under his leadership, all the mages were doing their best to protect the king and the magic he was performing, while the demons and the slime-like creatures were all routed.
The demons were still attacking everything in their path—including their own kind—while the slimes had long since vanished, leaving only a few corpses lying on the ground.
Of course, the greatest credit for this battle belongs to Rune, who brought the strongest demon to the Dream Kingdom. Otherwise, with the First Fallen present, even Superman from the main universe would probably have been doomed.
"I'll go!" Clark shouted.
However, Clark's identity made Wong hesitate. He was Rune's brother, and Gotham Sanctum was obviously facing a powerful enemy. If something happened to Clark, how would Wong explain it to Rune?
Wang was hesitant and didn't open a portal for Clark, but the helpful Zatanna patted Clark on the shoulder and said, "This mage is still maintaining the protective shield and can't free up his hands, I'll take you!"
After saying that, she opened a portal and headed to Gotham Sanctum with Clark. Her series of actions were so smooth that by the time Wang's eyes widened in horror and he realized what had happened, the two young people had already been teleported to Gotham Sanctum.
Raven: I haven't gotten on the bus yet! I haven't gotten on the bus yet!
Blood soaked into the marble floor of Gotham Sanctuary, and when Clark and Zatanna arrived, a strong smell of rust hit them.
This place was originally one of the three holy sites that all mages could visit with peace of mind and that guarded the entire earth, but now it has become a morgue.
Zatanna carefully avoided a pool of still-wet blood with her high heels; her lips trembled slightly, not from fear, but from anger.
"We're too late—" Clark, who had been filled with ambition to protect the world alongside others, lost all his enthusiasm upon seeing this tragic scene. Even his voice became much lower.
The moment the words left his lips, two powerful energy fluctuations emanated from the depths of the sanctuary. Accompanied by heavy footsteps, a figure clad in ancient Greek armor and wielding a blood-stained spear emerged from the shadows.
Beside this powerful being, a deity with purplish-black skin floated in mid-air, golden light flickering in its palm.
"Who are you?" Clark demanded. Even if he was slow to realize, he could tell that these two were the culprits who had slaughtered the entire Sanctuary.
-
"Kryptonians?" Ares recognized Clark's race at a glance. He used to love this race, but after the Kryptonians became weak, he stopped paying attention to them. He never expected to encounter one here.
I may not care, but that doesn't mean Ares isn't angry.
"Kryptonians? What do you mean? Have you seen any other Kryptonians?" Clark asked hastily, but Ares didn't say a word and instead raised his spear to stab Clark in the heart.
Ares's previous affection for the Kryptonians has only fueled his current loathing. Peace? Peace is a lie used by the weak to comfort themselves, a breeding ground for cowardice and decline. He turned warriors into farmers, and lions into fat sheep.
"Look! Wolves never negotiate with sheep, and storms show no mercy to trees," Ares roared. "All things prove their worth through struggle. The strong prey on the weak, survival of the fittest—this is the only true and undeniable truth!"
Superman dodged to the side, his heat vision colliding with the spear and creating blinding sparks. He didn't forget to refute Ares's fallacies, "But the greatest thing about mankind is that they can transcend instinct and choose compassion; they can transcend hatred and choose forgiveness."
"
Neither Zatanna nor Apollo expected Ares to attack right away.
Apollo, in particular, didn't like Ares, a brute, much. If Ares hadn't helped him seize the throne of the gods, Apollo, whose divine duties included light, the sun, medicine, animal husbandry, and music, would never have taken the initiative to contact Ares, let alone learn about the races that Ares liked.
Apollo would rather have spent more time having fun with a few nymphs than waste his time on that.
Zatanna quickly chanted a spell, and blue magical chains shot out from the void, wrapping around Ares's limbs. However, the war aura surrounding Ares distorted the magical effect.
Even on Mount Olympus, Ares remained the most hated god. He was bloodthirsty and extremely warlike, bringing endless war wherever he went. He was a symbol of slaughter, war, and disaster. Similarly, his power was affected by the extent of the war.
At his peak, Ares was even able to rival Darkseid in strength, but now he is clearly much weaker, at least only slightly stronger than Clark.
Apollo didn't just stand there dumbfounded. He raised his hands and grinned maliciously. An exceptionally bright ray shot out from his palms, carrying terrifying heat and striking Clark directly.
Ares, however, turned and glared at Apollo, knowing all too well the power these Kryptonians possessed.
As expected, the moment the solar rays struck Clark's chest, Apollo's anticipated scream of agony did not occur. Instead, Superman was enveloped in an unprecedented golden light, and his eyes shone like two newborn stars.
"That's impossible!"
Apollo was shocked by this sight. He looked at his hands in disbelief, as if the sun had abandoned him.
"Idiot!" Ares yelled. Kryptonians enhanced by the yellow sun were even capable of destroying a planet single-handedly, which was a major reason why they were able to create a space colony empire.
Clark, feeling this unprecedented power, tentatively punched Ares, and the powerful force sent Ares flying.
Ares, having encountered a terrible teammate, lay on the ground, yelling at Apollo, "Look what you've done, you idiot! We should get out of here right now!"
Apollo's face was contorted with rage, though it was unclear who he was angry at. But he did open a portal to Ares that shone with white light before quickly leaving, leaving behind a mess.
Clark slowly descended, the light emanating from his eyes and body gradually fading due to Apollo's departure. He sighed in disappointment, his hands clenched loosely, still recalling that powerful force.
"I wish those purple grapes had stayed a little longer—"
