Chapter 59 Who dares to bully my catgirl?
As Rune entered the farm, he immediately spotted a light stubbornly standing in the darkness not far away. Upon closer inspection, it was indeed Jonathan and Martha; they were still awake, waiting for Rune and Clark.
"I'm back." Rune pushed open the door and put down the packed food. "Eat up."
Jonathan and Martha happily hugged Rune and Clark. Then, Clark excitedly discussed with his parents the punch he had thrown back then.
As for Zatanna's accommodation, the final solution was to have Rune temporarily turn the sofa into a large bed so that Zatanna could sleep in their room.
"These past few days have felt like a dream." Zatanna turned to look at Rune, smiled happily, and said, "Thank you, and thank you Clark too. It's so nice to have you both here."
Rune nodded. He had already saved the world once, so he didn't have any special thoughts; he just wanted to get a good night's sleep. Perhaps due to exhaustion, he fell asleep the moment his head hit the pillow.
In the Slytherin dormitory at Hogwarts.
A familiar dampness made Rune toss and turn. He had to force himself to open his eyes, get up, and wash. Fortunately, a dose of vitality potion instantly woke him up. He patted his face and let out a long breath.
During this time, the potion masters developed many potion recipes with Eastern characteristics. Moreover, since Rune himself shared the brown sugar ginger tea potion recipe for free, these lovely masters also chose to publish the potion recipes they discovered, although they all applied for patents.
The purpose of this patent is actually to protect the commercial interests of potion recipes. If you only intend to use the potions yourself after making them, then it doesn't matter; but if you plan to sell them, then don't blame the Aurors of the Ministry of Magic for being ruthless and sending you to Azkaban.
Furthermore, wizards learned assembly line production. Merchants lowered costs by buying herbs in bulk and then mass-produced potions. Eventually, some potions sold in stores were even cheaper than making them themselves, so many people became too lazy to make them.
However, Rune was different; he chose to memorize every prescription, as that was his goal. Now, he has earned the title of "Father of the New Potions."
When Rune went out to see what new prescriptions had appeared in the magazine, he found that his house seemed to be isolated. Students from other houses were unwilling to speak to the Slytherins, and even the lion cubs who used to argue with the snakes wouldn't say a word to them anymore—this was very unusual.
After finishing their meal, Rune called Fred and George over.
"What happened at school?" Rune asked.
Fred and George exchanged a glance, their usual mischievous smiles vanishing, replaced by furrowed brows and pursed lips. Faced with Rune's question, they simply shook their heads, telling Rune to go find Professor McGonagall.
Rune was full of questions, so he went to find Professor McGonagall after class.
"You mean this matter..." Professor McGonagall's face tightened, her eyes turned cold, and the corners of her mouth were slightly downturned; it was clear she was also angry. She placed a newspaper in front of Rune and said softly, "Read this article first."
Rune glanced at it and saw the huge, eye-catching headline: "Many wizards have gone missing, and even young wizards cannot escape the clutches of the killer."
Upon seeing the title, a sense of unease welled up within him, so he continued reading. The more he read, the more astonished he became.
The title of this article is already sensational, but its content is even more shocking. Many potions masters were invited to the recent Merlin Medal award ceremony. It's normal that some didn't attend. However, after listening to Rune's speech, the potions masters who did attend the ceremony were eager to share this groundbreaking information about potions with others. As a result, some of them went to visit their friends, only to find that their friends weren't home.
So some stubborn wizards began searching everywhere, but to no avail. This was not an isolated case; more than thirty potions masters had already disappeared.
The author of this report, Rita, was originally doing a follow-up report on Rune when she learned about these things and wrote this report.
What's even more terrifying is that Rita somehow obtained the number of wizards who went missing each year and discovered some patterns in them—the missing wizards were not pure-blooded; they were either from Muggle families or were half-Muggle wizards and pure-blood wizards.
Finally, Rita offered several guesses, each one terrifying.
Rune contacted the previously isolated Slytherins, took a deep breath, and asked, "Did the Slytherins say something offensive?"
"Yes, child. But I know you didn't say it, so don't be sad about it." Professor McGonagall took Rune's hand, gently stroked it, and comforted him. "I know you are different. Although you are Slytherin, I still feel that you should come to Gryffindor."
Rune could already picture the vicious words those Slytherins would utter. They never cared about the feelings of others, just like when the Chamber of Secrets was opened, their first thought was to let the monster inside kill all the Muggles and half-blood wizards.
So he asked softly, "I just don't understand, Professor. The last Muggle who believed in bloodlines committed suicide, and the last wizard who believed in bloodlines is already in hell..."
Rune looked directly at Professor McGonagall and saw the sorrow in her eyes. She was highly skilled in Transfiguration, possibly the second most powerful wizard in all of Hogwarts. She didn't value her students' wealth or birth; she was dedicated to each and every one of them, willing to impart all her knowledge even to Slytherins. Yet, this dedicated teacher was subjected to slander and abuse behind her back by the Slytherins simply because she was a half-blood witch.
Rune didn't even dare to imagine what he would do if he were treated like that. But Professor McGonagall remained calm in class, as if she wasn't the one being slandered.
He looked closely at Professor McGonagall, imprinting every wrinkle on her face in his mind.
"I don't understand, Professor..." Rune continued, his pupils turning crimson from the surge of magic, "I don't understand why the theory of bloodlines is still so popular now."
Professor McGonagall smiled deliberately. "It's alright, Rune. Bloodlines can pass on magic, but not wisdom and diligence. I don't care whether I'm pure-blooded or not, child..."
The old witch looked at Rune, tilted her head like a cat, and asked, "Do you care?"
Rune shook his head.
