Chapter 68 Dare to kill my horse?
In the blink of an eye, more than two months have passed, and Hogwarts has officially entered the rainy season.
Perhaps due to previous reports, Rita's investigation yielded little result for the time being. Rune had anticipated this, but to his surprise, despite Rita's continued meticulous investigation, the rare magic she bestowed upon Rune actually increased.
Rune also vaguely saw the image of those wizards from the past in these spells—they were absolutely fearless of war, and even skilled in it. The group spells used for war were far more sophisticated than most spells of today, simpler to cast, with fewer syllables, and faster to take effect. Some of the ritual spells, whether complicated or simple, were all quite amazing in their effects.
The rise of wizards was a bloody and tearful history for other magical races, but it undoubtedly increased Rune's interest in learning.
In the DC universe, Rune's puppets are quite popular. Besides puppets for daily life and combat, he also released companion puppets. This is all thanks to a certain scumbag who always wears a beige trench coat; only he would calmly give Rune and Clark a dirty and despicable sex education lesson. If Rune hadn't interrupted with a dark expression, that scumbag would have even wanted to let the two underage kids experience it for themselves.
At the same time, Rune's mastery of magical impact has reached a new level. Not only has the upper limit of magical output increased, but the precision of his manipulation has also improved. He can now maintain a magical impact at a distance of about 250 meters, with the force of his index finger, but he still cannot change the nature of the magical impact, nor can he easily control it to the thickness of a cotton swab.
In addition, there is another piece of good news today.
At breakfast, Rune carefully read the letter Sirius had sent him.
After Sirius had recovered sufficiently, he took Harry to fulfill his promise. The ring, after being scorched by the Fiendfyre curse, had its metal melted, but the black gem remained unharmed. Sirius reprimanded Rune for Harry's curiosity in handling the gem, which had unexpectedly summoned his parents. He also learned the gem's origin: it was the Resurrection Stone, one of the Deathly Hallows.
However, because of his promise, Sirius Black ultimately threw away the gem despite Harry's objections.
Seeing this, Rune couldn't help but admire the man. If he hadn't been unable to bring items out of the dream, the man would definitely have taken the Resurrection Stone. However, if he wasn't mistaken, he would soon be summoned to the Headmaster's office. After all, he was the savior, and the person who took him out was the reckless Sirius Black; Dumbledore would definitely be following him from the shadows.
Sure enough, after the Transfiguration class, Professor McGonagall instructed Rune to go to the principal's office that evening, with the password being "wool socks."
Rune stood at the door, shouted the command, and then quietly walked into the huge office. The headmaster's office was spacious and bright, with some incomprehensible magical equipment on the floor and portraits of past headmasters hanging on the walls.
"Hey, little guy!" an old man with black hair and dark eyes called out to Rune. He had sparse eyebrows, a goatee, and wore a huge, oddly styled hat.
Rune turned and asked, "Is there anything I can help you with?"
The headmaster stood ramrod straight, hands on his knees, eyes fixed on Rune, and said solemnly, "Yes, and it is something very important!"
A witch nearby interjected, "What important matter? He just wants you to help his descendants get married! They probably only have Sirius left in their family!"
The old man who had initially called out to Rune glared at the witch, his face flushed red, his eyebrows furrowed, his lips trembling, his hands gripping the armrests tightly, panting heavily, his eyes filled with anger: "Shut up! This is a matter of utmost importance for our family!"
Rune nodded slightly. It seemed that the old man from earlier must be Phineas, who held the title of the most unpopular headmaster in the school's history. He was the head of the Black family at the time, a typical pure-blood believer.
However, since it was just a small favor, Rune readily agreed.
Phineas finally relaxed. Although the child in front of him wasn't a pureblood, considering that Rune had cleared Sirius's name and was even willing to help him get married, he was willing to say a few good words for Rune in the meantime—he had heard Snape barge in twice to speak ill of him.
However, just as Phineas breathed a sigh of relief, the other headmasters began to mock him. The witch who had spoken earlier was particularly venomous, forcing Phineas to blush and say things like, "Procreation is the most important mission of purebloods," and "Don't you have children?" which made everyone laugh, filling the office with a joyful atmosphere.
After a long while, Dumbledore, who was sitting in a chair, finally called a halt to the group. He took out his treasured Sherpa candy and placed it on the table.
"You took it?"
"I took it."
"You took what you shouldn't have taken."
"But I've already taken it."
Rune picked up a piece of candy, gently tore open the wrapper, peeled off the paper, put the candy in his mouth, and chewed slowly: "So you know about its side effects?"
Dumbledore nodded. But contrary to the sorrow Rune had imagined, the wizard's lips curled into a faint smile. He noticed Rune's confusion and then said with a smile, "Didn't the Great Prophet see my reaction after I obtained the Resurrection Stone?"
"I can only see the future before it's changed, and I only know the general outline," Rune said, shrugging and mumbling with a candy in his mouth. "Now everything has changed, and I'm not entirely sure about the future."
After thinking for a moment, Rune added, "However, Barty Crouch Jr. is not dead; he is still working on Voldemort's affairs."
Dumbledore finally frowned. Prior to this, Barty Crouch Jr. had been presumed dead.
"Are you sure?" Dumbledore asked slowly, his expression serious, looking directly at the other man. "This is a very serious accusation."
Dumbledore said this because Barty Crouch Jr.'s father, Barty Crouch Sr., held a very high position in the Ministry of Magic. He had even almost been elected Minister of Magic. He gained considerable prestige for openly opposing Voldemort, but after Voldemort's downfall, his son was discovered to be a Death Eater, so he personally sent his son to Azkaban prison. As a result, he was transferred to the Department of International Magical Exchange and Cooperation, becoming a director. However, his prestige remained very high, and Fudge was wary of Barty Crouch Sr.
If Barty Crouch Jr. hadn't died, then Barty Crouch Sr. would have been the most likely to save him. Rune's statement was tantamount to questioning a high-ranking official of the Ministry of Magic.
Rune smacked his lips, feeling the carbonated powder pulsating in his mouth. No wonder Dumbledore liked this candy; even he himself had developed a fondness for Olaf Candy.
"Of course I'm sure," he said nonchalantly. "It was Barty Crouch's mother who took his place; she died in prison in place of her son. If you don't believe me, go and see if there's a man or a woman in Barty's grave."
……
Because the headmaster was eager to confirm the matter, Rune was quickly allowed to leave the office. As he finished dinner and prepared to study the magic Rita had sent him, the glove began to move, which pleased Rune somewhat.
Because there's something else to kill.
