Chapter 87 The Mad Father
This piece of meat looks strange. It doesn't look like it was cut from some kind of animal. Instead, it looks like some kind of creature that was born this way, covered in skin all over its body, like some kind of mammal.
As he reached out to touch it, he inexplicably felt a familiar sensation. But in his fear, he couldn't think straight and, under the watchful eyes of Rune and the others, ate the chunk of meat. The moment he bit into it, the metallic taste almost instantly overwhelmed his sense of smell. He couldn't tell if it was salty or sweet; the meat was still twitching after being bitten, and he felt nauseous. The next moment, he vomited.
"How does your son taste?" Rune asked with a smile. The chunk of meat was still rolling on the ground, and the lieutenant general's face was filled with confusion upon hearing this. His brows furrowed slightly, and his lips moved involuntarily. He understood the meaning of each word, but why did they seem so incomprehensible when put together?
The lieutenant general looked at the others, as if trying to find the answer in their faces. His mind was in turmoil, as if a tangled mess was being stirred up.
"What, you don't believe me?" Rune asked. A moment later, he added, "I know you don't believe me, because he should be on a mission on a small island right now. Let me think… what mission was it again? Oh, right!"
Rune leaned close to his ear and whispered, "He was dealing with some soldiers, right? But unfortunately, he ran into me. Guess how I found out about this place?"
"You unfilial son! You unfilial son!" His face flushed crimson instantly, then turned ashen. His chest heaved violently, his breathing became rapid, and his eyes were filled with rage. He jumped up and stomped hard on the lump of flesh. Soon, the lump of flesh could no longer twitch.
He clearly believed that it was his son's betrayal that led to them being found here.
At this moment, Rune clapped his hands lightly.
"Wow, seriously, you're really ruthless..." Rune said, clapping his hands. "He did his best for you, but you, his despicable father, killed him..."
"What do you mean?" He looked at Rune, his eyes filled with ferocity and anger.
Rune laughed. "It means he didn't betray you, which is quite obvious. After all, if he had betrayed you, why would he appear before you in the form of this piece of flesh? I just can read your son's mind..."
The lieutenant general's eyes shifted rapidly. Something seemed to snap in his mind, causing him to burst into laughter. Then, he grabbed the glass bottle beside him, still leaking green liquid, and smashed it to the ground. Glass shards flew everywhere, making a piercing sound. His breathing became rapid, his chest heaving violently, as if a fire were burning within him.
"That's...that's my son!" he roared, his voice filled with rage and despair. "He's my son, understand?! I can raise him as I please, kill him as I please, do whatever I want with him!"
But after a short while, he rushed frantically to the lump of flesh on the ground, carefully picked up the disgusting object that was no longer moving, and then rubbed the rotten lump of flesh while crying loudly.
Less than five minutes later, the lieutenant general threw the piece of meat away again, shouting, "This isn't my son! My son is tall and handsome, he couldn't possibly look like this! Impossible, impossible! Hahahahahahahahaha..."
He ran and shouted wildly throughout the hall, then suddenly ran out of the banquet hall and left without looking back.
The lieutenant general ran through the streets, his initial hysteria gradually subsiding, even replaced by a hint of relief—he didn't believe Rune's promise at all. Rune had said he would let him live, but hadn't specified in what form. If he were to become like his good-for-nothing son, he'd rather be dead!
Indeed, he wasn't actually grieving over his son's death. This lieutenant general had multiple wives and numerous sons and daughters; the death of one was nothing to make him go crazy.
However, that boy must die!
The lieutenant general had no idea what Rune's move meant; he simply assumed he had escaped the clutches of evil and was already thinking about revenge. However, the next moment, he felt a familiar sense of oppression. It was as if an invisible force was quietly gathering around him, and the surrounding air began to distort, as if it had been warped by some powerful magnetic field.
Suddenly, that unknown force erupted. The lieutenant general's body was enveloped by immense pressure, as if gripped tightly by an invisible giant hand. He let out a piercing scream, but it was quickly cut short. His body was compressed in an instant, his limbs were squeezed tightly together, and the outline of his body rapidly changed. His originally round body was compressed into a small cube in an instant.
At this moment, everything calmed down.
The next moment, a security guard walked over, saw the piece of meat, examined it carefully, and frowned.
"What on earth is this thing?"
He touched it; the piece of meat was still warm! But this piece of meat was just too strange. So, without figuring out what was going on, the security guard simply threw the thing into the trash can.
"Let stray dogs or cats deal with this thing. It's kind of creepy for me to hold it; it looks like a person has turned into it." The security guard couldn't help but chuckle at his own conjecture. How could a person turn into a palm-sized lump of flesh? It's probably some company's weird toy.
Inside the banquet hall, Rune continued to smile. Trying to escape punishment by feigning madness? Dream on!
The next moment, a man shouted, "You are a demon!"
Rune nodded, then waved him over and skillfully used Legilimency to read his memories. To Rune's surprise, however, the man's name was Murdoch, and surprisingly, he was a good person.
He looked the lawyer over carefully, then said, "Shouldn't you be blind?"
"What?" The man's thoughts were disrupted by Rune's words.
The lawyer named Murdoch was a typical newcomer who had only come at the invitation of a previous client. Moreover, he was generally honest and sometimes offered free legal advice to the poor, so Rune let him go.
"Are you really letting me go?" Murdoch asked incredulously, standing in the corner.
Rune glared at him: "If you don't leave now, you'll die."
As Murdoch was about to leave, Rune added, "Keep it up, don't tarnish the name Murdoch."
