Chapter 37 Internal and External Troubles: Signs of Impending Doom

Chapter 37 Internal and External Troubles: Signs of Impending Doom

"Father, are you alright?"

Katarina looked anxiously at her father.

Although Lanster and his men were promptly taken away, King Lanton was so angry, coupled with his poor health, that he fainted!

If it weren't for their experienced doctors who managed to save them in time, they would have been saved.

I'm afraid we won't even have time to wipe away the humiliation before we have to hold a funeral for the king!

Even so, King Landon remained unconscious for five days!

As the eldest daughter of the empire, Katarina naturally stayed by her father's side.

"Water, water..."

"Quick, bring me some water!"

Katarina shouted anxiously, and then a servant handed her a cup of water, which she carefully fed to her father.

"Father, are you feeling better?" Katarina asked softly again after King Landon had recovered for a while.

She is very worried now, after all, King Landon has more than one daughter, and even more than a dozen sons!

Although her elder brother, the rightful heir, has died, she is now favored and is ruling the country in place of King Landon.

But that doesn't mean she's the heir!

If King Landon dies, all her previous efforts will be in vain.

The revival of the Landon Empire will be in vain. Her brothers and sisters will rise up overnight and bring their armies to the Landon capital to seize control of the water source!

What awaits them then is endless war!

"Those...those arrogant bastards, are they...are they dead?"

When King Landon spoke, his first thought was not of the country or his daughter, but of those "bastards" who had offended him.

A hint of sadness flashed in Katarina's eyes, but she still comforted him, "Don't worry, Father, I've left them for you. After you recover a little, you can personally oversee the executions!"

"Good, good." King Landon's face lit up with joy, and his complexion became much rosier.

"As expected of my good daughter, quick, help me up and call a beauty over."

Katarina: ...

"Yes."

Katarina concealed the disappointment in her eyes, responded, and stepped back.

Soon, decadent music filled the palace.

Katarina simply shook her head and walked out of the royal city into the city proper.

As soon as she stepped out of the royal city, she saw a group of city defense patrols driving away farmers.

The farmers, dressed in rags and looking pale, carried huge stones and various supplies that weighed several times their own weight.

"Hurry up!"

Snapped!

"If you dare to dawdle any longer, I'll kill you! Get to work and reinforce the city defenses!"

Katarina stepped forward and stopped the patrolmen who were driving away the farmers, asking, "What are you doing? Why are you strengthening the city's defenses?"

"Your Highness!"

The patrolman quickly saluted and replied, "We are building up the city's defenses. Our scouts at the front report that a strange-looking cavalry force is charging towards us."

"Strange cavalry? Heading this way?"

Katarina was somewhat surprised. "We have four checkpoints ahead of us, and more than a dozen marquisates. How could cavalry possibly have gotten here? If there's been fighting, why hasn't anyone come to report it?"

"I wouldn't know about that..."

Just as Katarina was surprised, a scout covered in blood and looking terrified suddenly ran out of the city.

"Get out of the way! Everyone get out of the way!"

The scout charged forward, and even Katarina dared not stop him.

After watching the other person rush into the palace gates, Katarina hurriedly lifted her skirt and followed.

Then she understood why she hadn't received any messages for the past five days—

Then, her father's most favored concubine, leading a group of eunuchs, stopped the scout who had come to report.

The woman glanced at the letter, tore it up, and said, "Another traitor! The world is at peace, why is there such a troublesome matter? Don't disturb His Majesty, drag him away and bury him."

The eunuchs easily killed the scout, stuffed him into a sack, and sent him to the inner palace.

Seeing this, Katarina felt a chill run through her body.

This woman, how dare she?

At such a critical moment, she's still playing palace intrigue? Doesn't she know that if she harms the empire, she won't escape unscathed herself?

Just as Katarina was burning with rage, a sudden shout of battle came from outside the city.

Then, from within the royal palace and the city's magical sanctuary, several figures flew out and headed towards the city gate.

"The royal elders and the mages from the Holy Land have all gone! What happened?"

Katarina's expression changed drastically. She hurriedly ran back to the palace, retrieved the military tally, and went to the military camp to mobilize troops.

"Follow me, all of you!"

Katarina changed into military attire, rode a giant beast unique to Landon, and led her army toward the main gate.

When she arrived with her army, she was greeted by a scene she would never forget.

The ground was littered with the corpses of the defending soldiers, the city gates had been broken down, and even half of the city walls had been blasted away!

Blood was raining down from the sky, and the bodies of the elders of the Landon royal family and the mages of the magical holy land, who had just been thrown out, fell from the sky like tattered rags...

And suspended in the sky was a jet-black legion!

The general, wearing a mask of a blue-faced, fanged demon, hovered and controlled the object, while a mass of blood-like substance gathered in his hand.

As the thing he was building took shape, the blood rain that was originally falling downwards flowed upwards and all gathered in his hands.

Just then, his voice rang out.

"These eleven men fought valiantly for their country, and were so loyal and brave that they were given a proper burial and their bodies were left whole."

As his voice rang out, a man in a long robe stepped out from the side, waved his magic wand, and directly conjured eleven coffins, collecting all the corpses and burying them underground outside the city walls.

"This, this is a magician!?"

Everything before her eyes was beyond Katerina's comprehension.

As the eldest princess of the only empire on Landon Star, she naturally possessed considerable knowledge and experience.

Even the most powerful mages and magic warriors on Landon Star could not conjure earth and stone out of thin air, let alone build a coffin with patterns on it!

Where did these guys come from...?

and many more.

They can't be...

A bad feeling welled up in Katarina's heart, and the next moment, her premonition was confirmed!

Alexander looked at the breached city walls and the completely wiped-out city guards, and a disdainful smile appeared on his face.

Although he landed, he saw Katarina arriving with her army.

"Oh? There are reinforcements after all."

"Then let me introduce myself. My name is Alexander, the Great General Who Guards the North under the Black King!"

"You have disrespected my king and imprisoned his messengers! By order of my king, I have come to punish you, destroy your country, and ruin your temples!"

Alexander shook his head, raised his greatsword, and pointed it at Katarina, saying, "Forget it, there's no point in saying more!"

"Prepare to die!"

Oh, right, the crackdown on organized crime... I forgot, this is the second update today.
