Angel investor in the One Piece world

Chapter 4 Fair Competition

Johnny walked out of the Moretti Bank with a pale face. The bright sunlight shone on him, but he did not feel warm at all.

President Damian's words still echoed in his mind, as if weighed down by a thousand pounds, making it hard for him to breathe.

His henchmen rushed over, "Boss, did you get the money?"

Johnny paused, then remembered that he had come to apply for a loan.

He simply whispered, "Let's go!"

"Boss?"

The underlings were completely bewildered, but they could only follow behind their boss and squeeze out of the crowd.

On the third floor of the bank, Damian quietly watched Johnny and his group depart through the window.

"Hahaha, that guy was so scared he almost peed his pants when he heard what you said. Can you really trust him?"

Bartolomeo stood beside him, his hand resting on the window, and spoke with a grin.

"The Moretti family motto is: 'Whatever is used will surely bring results.'"

Damian said calmly, "I helped him, so of course he has to help me too."

"learn!"

Bartolomeo chuckled. "But brother, are you sure you don't need my men to do it?"

"Now that you're so popular, the Navy is keeping a close eye on you."

Damian said, "I've already sent the cats over. Let the professionals handle this."

Bartolomeo nodded. "Then I'll have someone keep an eye on Johnny. I won't give him a chance to back out."

The clamor from below still echoed, and every now and then, people with happy faces would struggle to squeeze out; they were the ones who had successfully retrieved their money.

However, many people still looked anxious. The people in front of them were able to get their money, but who could guarantee that everyone would be able to?

Damian watched all this and simply murmured to himself, "Now, let's compete fairly."

The crowd gathered at Moretti Bank did not disperse until late at night.

There are simply not enough staff at the teller counters, and the efficiency of withdrawals is too low. People who are afraid of not being able to withdraw their money have already prepared to stay up all night.

Meanwhile, on a stretch of coastline south of Rogge Town.

Johnny sat alone on a rock by the sea, surrounded by piles of cigarette butts.

He took another deep drag of his cigarette, almost smoking half of it in one go, then looked up, his eyes filled with sorrow as he gazed at the dark sea.

There's really no such thing as a free lunch.

Splash!

Suddenly, a commotion arose from the sea ahead.

Johnny instinctively stood up, and sure enough, he spotted a ship rapidly approaching on the sea.

His fists clenched involuntarily, his palms covered in cold sweat.

The large ship quickly came to a stop at the shore. Before the deck was even lowered, two figures leaped off the deck like phantoms.

Johnny only felt a blur before his eyes, and a slender man was already standing in front of him, his right hand, clad in a sharp cat claw glove, had already grabbed his neck.

Behind him, another obese man pressed a similar cat-paw glove against the back of his head. "Heh heh, looks like we've been spotted!"

"First mate, should we take this guy out?"

The man in front of me, whose face was painted with cat-like makeup, spoke with a grin.

Johnny instantly broke out in a sweat and quickly said, "President Damian told me to wait for you here!"

"Did you hear that, Sam? Bucky, let him go right now!"

A plank of wood was lowered from the deck of the ship, and a man wearing a top hat stepped down. "Do you want to anger Boss Damian?"

Behind him, a group of men armed with knives and guns hurried off the ship.

Upon hearing this, the two men, one fat and one thin, whose appearance and behavior were very similar to those of a cat, finally released Johnny.

Johnny almost fell to the ground.

He knows these guys!

Hypnotist Zango! A great pirate with a bounty of nine million Berries! Former vice-captain of the Black Cat Pirates, he became the new captain of the pirate crew after Captain Kuro was arrested and executed two years ago.

The other two are the cat-man brothers, Sam and Buchi! They are combatants of the Black Cat Pirates, ruthless characters with a bounty of seven million Berries!

President Damian actually summoned the remnants of the Black Cat Pirates?

What kind of crisis have I gotten myself into?

Zango pushed up his heart-shaped glasses. "Lead the way, or we'll all be in trouble if we mess up Boss Damian's plans."

Johnny swallowed hard and nodded hastily.

There's no going back now!

Following President Damian, perhaps—

There are three private banks in Loguetown: Moretti Bank, run by the Moretti family; Loguetown Commercial Bank, run by the Loguetown Chamber of Commerce; and Coney Bank, run by the Coney family, Loguetown's shipping tycoons.

Originally, although the three banks were in competition, they generally coexisted peacefully, and the size of Rogge Town was sufficient for all three banks to develop simultaneously.

However, the situation changed when the patriarch of the Moretti family died in a shipwreck.

Everyone knows that although Moretti's patriarch Jonathan is shrewd and capable, his only son has no intention of inheriting the family business. He has been at sea since his youth and has never been involved in banking.

Now that Moretti Bank is about to fall into the hands of this inexperienced twenty-year-old, it's hard not to feel covetous.

So on the very night the news reached Loguetown, the president of the Loguetown Chamber of Commerce and the head of the Connie family met secretly and devised a strategy together.

The next day, rumors began to circulate in Loguetown.

The southern part of Loguetown is the town's wealthy district, where the town's elite reside. As a result, the navy has strengthened security there, with marines patrolling even at night.

"You didn't see anything, keep patrolling."

Zango swung the ring in his hand.

Before him stood a group of navy sailors with blank expressions. After hearing his words, they walked around them in a daze, pretending not to see them, and continued their patrol.

Johnny stared in shock at everything.

God knows he was somewhat terrified when he encountered the patrolling navy.

But I didn't expect it to be so easy to pass?

The hypnotist praised Gao, saying he truly lived up to his reputation.

As he stood there in a daze, Zango looked at him and asked, "What are you daydreaming about?"

"oh oh!!"

Johnny finally came to his senses and was already sweating profusely again.

He quickly pointed to a luxurious villa in the distance, "That's the Connie family's villa!"

"So,"

Zango licked his lips. "Don't make too much noise, Sam. Buzz, you're in charge! Take care of the guards first!"

Connie Butler is 60 years old this year. Although he takes good care of himself, his energy is inevitably declining.

Normally he would have been asleep by this time, but today he was still forcing himself to stay awake.

In his spacious study, the renowned tycoon of Loguetown sipped his coffee, the caffeine seemingly dispelling some of his drowsiness.

"So, you're saying we're withdrawing money overnight?"

"Yes, Father."

The one who answered him was Dolly, the eldest son of the family and Butler's proud heir. The refined man in his thirties smiled and said, "Moretti's brat has gone mad. He seems to really intend to make all the depositors withdraw their money."

"Lost in mind?"

Butler shook his head. "I'm afraid we underestimated Moretti. They have more money than we imagined."

"This can't go on. Otherwise, not only will we fail to defeat Moretti, but we will also greatly enhance their credibility among depositors."

Connie Dolly, realizing what was happening, quickly asked, "Father, what should we do?"

"Before depositors realize what's happening, raise interest rates to attract as many deposits as possible."

Butler said, "And then,"

He paused, leaning forward, the light from the chandelier suddenly casting a shadow on his face. "Get some people involved. Since they've been withdrawing large sums of money, the vault door must have never been closed."

Dolly's eyes lit up. "I understand, Father! Let's teach that brat what real business warfare is all about!"

Butler chuckled and added, "And that Moretti kid, the easiest way to defeat an enemy is to physically eliminate him."

The father and son were still smiling when the study door was kicked open with a loud bang.

"What's going on?"

Dolly turned around angrily. "I'm talking to my father!"

Butler frowned as well. In this house, who would dare to be so presumptuous?

"Really? It seems I've disturbed you!"

Zango took off his hat and walked leisurely into the study. Under the astonished gazes of the father and son, he smiled and said, "But I'm sorry, you'll have to hand over all your money, and then I'll trouble you to come with us."
