Chapter 101 Lockhart's Lesson
Chapter 101 Lockhart's Lesson
Lockhart tapped the blackboard, and a huge tapestry hung down from the ceiling, depicting a complete world map marked with various colored blocks.
"As we all know, the world today is mainly divided into three categories: wizards, Muggles, and goblins."
Lockhart leaned on the lectern, and on the tapestry behind him, different colors were fighting each other, tearing off pieces from one another, transforming them into their own colors, and filling them in.
"Each faction also has more subtle distinctions. In this year's course, we will learn about their differences, stances, and spheres of influence one by one."
He took his short cane off and used it as a teaching aid, pointing to the white and black blocks on the map, which occupied most of the map's area.
"Without a doubt, even today, wizards still dominate the world. Compared to the few fairies and the low productivity of Muggles, wizards' magic has a unique advantage in restoring production and increasing the survival rate of living beings."
"But the wizards are not united. The black part represents the Dark Lord and his sorcerer party, who have occupied most of the best parts of Europe." Lockhart moved his short staff, outlining the sorcerer party's territory.
From Northern and Eastern Europe, to most parts of France and Germany, all the way south, and even across the sea, it extends to the heart of Africa.
The dark, cloud-like patches of color danced, like the fiery flames of the UMNO party, burning the earth.
"Are we in UMNO territory right now?" one of the girls asked with some concern.
"Yes, but don't worry about the child." Lockhart revealed his charming smile: "First, Hogwarts's secrecy spell is very sophisticated, and the castle cannot be found without special means; second, in today's world, everyone only wants to stay in more habitable settlements, and although large areas of desolate wilderness nominally belong to the Vigilantes, they are actually unmanaged wastelands."
"There are many small Muggle strongholds scattered in the wilderness, and even the Malay Party cannot spare the resources to clear them all."
"Their main focus is on fighting the more powerful Muggle groups to the east, as well as the ubiquitous and troublesome goblins."
"They are the extremists among wizards. Perhaps they are relatively mild-mannered by wizards, and they can reason with you. If you don't listen, they will just drive you aside. But when it comes to Muggles and goblins, there are only two choices: obedience or death." Lockhart said with a serious expression.
"They will use Fiendfire to destroy Muggle buildings, destroy their machines, and burn their books. Muggle sages will be killed without mercy, and any attempt to preserve technology will be their priority target. Muggles have only one value in the Usurp: to serve as slaves to the noble wizard lords. Only when a new wizard child is born into a Muggle family can they be considered to benefit from the child and become a member of the ruling class."
"And they would be even more ruthless towards fairies," Grindelwald believed. It was the fairies' betrayal that gave the originally weak Muggles the power to destroy the world. Muggles, who should have been powerless to resist, would have been ruled by wizards, and their weapons would have been destroyed in the early stages of the war. Moreover, the original number and power of nuclear bombs were far from enough to turn the world into what it is today.
It was because of the fairies' help in the early stages of the war that the Curse of Eternal Winter blotted out the sky, and the astonishing number of nuclear explosions shrouded the entire globe in radiation; therefore, the cultists will kill every fairy they see and destroy every fairy cave they can find.
"The goblins' betrayal also dealt a heavy blow to the unprepared wizards at the time. The paralysis of the financial system and the shutdown of important institutions such as the Ministry of Magic caused the wizards to be thrown into chaos when faced with the first wave of Muggle counterattacks, and they failed to organize an effective resistance. Of course, I think your Professor Quirrell has also mentioned these things," Lockhart added.
"Professor, what is a fairy cave?" a child asked, raising his hand.
"I think you've all seen it. On this map, there isn't much dark red representing fairies. They are clearly one of the three major powers, so why don't they occupy a vast territory?" Lockhart asked with a smile.
"Besides the fact that their numbers are too small, another reason is that they mostly live in fairy caves."
"It's a kind of magic similar to a door key, but much more powerful. Fairies attach themselves to the real world and open up magical secret realms called Fairy Caves. The environment inside is not as harsh as the outside world and is more suitable for fairies to live in. However, once a Fairy Cave is opened, it cannot be moved and must attach itself to something stable enough, such as a mountain, swamp, or forest."
"Therefore, they will try their best to hide the fairy cave in a sufficiently concealed place so that it will not be found by the shamans."
"The most well-known goblin cave is the Gringotts vault in London fifty years ago. If that huge underground cave had really been dug under London, it would probably have been discovered by Muggles long ago."
"After the goblins rebelled, Gringotts vaults were unable to be moved, so the wizards ransacked them, and the nobles seized all the Galleons inside, which prevented the wizarding economy from completely collapsing."
"After the world was destroyed, the wizards and Muggles were hit the hardest, and the goblins achieved their goal. The human population was greatly reduced, and with the resources provided by the Muggles, they had enough power to build goblin caves and live a carefree life in all unknown places. Only when the wizards discovered their lair would a war suddenly break out between the two sides."
"The fairies are so evil! But they just want to live their lives behind closed doors, so why do they have to destroy humans?" Xiao Guan raised his hand and asked indignantly.
"Because the original fairies were driven out of the forests, swamps, and mountains by humans' development of the world," Hermione said calmly. "The history of magic mentions that humans discovered fairies very early on, but wizards enslaved fairies even later."
"To the fairies, humans are probably the most annoying creatures in the world. They destroy the foundation of the fairy cave, use explosives to open up mountains, cut down forests in large areas, turn swamps into farmland, and always think about enslaving other species. If the extinction of humans is at the cost of the destruction of the world, it is not a very heavy price for them living in the fairy cave."
"Miss Granger is quite right." Lockhart applauded lightly for her, making a small joke: "But Professor Quirrell will probably have to give you extra points for this part."
"No one knows where the fairies are now or how many fairy caves they have built. However, there have been reports of fairy sightings all over the world. Some scholars believe that the fairies have probably built an unprecedentedly huge fairy realm that can be reached from any fairy cave in the world. Even if the fairy caves are discovered and destroyed by wizards, they will not be able to truly destroy that incomparably huge fairy realm."
As Lockhart spoke, tiny dark red dots of light faintly appeared on all the colored plots of land on the tapestry map behind him.
"It is said that there was once a goblin cave in the Albanian forest occupied by the Green Flame Party, but Voldemort took it from the goblins and destroyed the entrance."
On the map, a large area of dark red turned into deep green, which is the color of the Green Flame Party.
"I really want to see what the Fairy Realm is like," Harry thought to himself.
"Don't even think about it. The fairies will never let wizards in. They hate wizards even more than Muggles."
"We've gone too far afield. Our main lesson today is about the wizarding forces." Lockhart clapped his hands, drawing everyone's attention back.
