Chapter 39 Divine Doctor
When Miller drove up to Stark Tower, he was met with a heartbreaking scene of devastation – corpses strewn everywhere, a landscape ravaged by destruction.
Although he knew in his heart that he was the one who caused these tragedies, it did not prevent him from feeling an indescribable sense of compassion when he witnessed such a tragic scene.
The atmosphere at the scene was unusually heavy, the air seemingly thick with sorrow and despair. The survivors' eyes were filled with fear and helplessness as they wandered aimlessly among the ruins.
When Miller appeared in everyone's sight, those who knew about his superpowers seemed to see a glimmer of hope and flocked towards him.
Their actions triggered a riot in an already chaotic situation.
Miller realized that this situation was not working and that the chaotic scene was not conducive to the treatment of the injured.
So he decisively took action, quickly summoning the police who had just arrived and, assuming the role of a senior advisor, ordering them to assist in maintaining order at the scene and clearing the body and road. Miller then said he would grant interviews if reporters and photographers temporarily put aside their work and helped lift the stretcher to move the injured to safety as quickly as possible. They immediately complied.
Meanwhile, doctors and nurses continued to arrive, and Miller, in his role as the superhero "Mr. Doctor," guided them as assistants to conduct preliminary analysis of the injuries and prioritize the treatment of the seriously wounded.
With everyone's concerted efforts, the chaotic situation at the scene was gradually improved, and the rescue work was carried out in an orderly manner.
Thor put down his hammer and pointed at Miller on the monitor, asking in surprise, "Tony? Are you sure? Judging from his performance, I feel like he's the real superhero. Those of us who just stand here watching and do nothing, even preparing to beat him up, are the ones who don't look like good guys."
Bruce Banner relaxed and asked, "So, is it possible it's because they're twins or something else?"
Captain America Steve Rogers lowered his shield: "I don't know anything about your high-tech stuff, but I have a feeling that the guy down there who keeps healing people is a good person."
Natasha's expression softened, and her previously furrowed brows gradually relaxed. Her sharp eyes scanned the monitor screen, as if she were weighing something in her mind. Although she didn't speak, her expression revealed her inner thoughts.
Hawkeye Clinton felt something was off, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He frowned, his gaze shifting between the surveillance footage and the people around him, trying to pinpoint the source of his unease. His intuition told him that things weren't as simple as they seemed.
Tony Stark wasn't surprised, because in his mind, Dr. Miller was indeed a responsible doctor. But that didn't stop him from having doubts about Miller. After all, in this unpredictable world, anything could happen. Wasn't Dr. Bruce Banner standing nearby the most typical example?
"So, are we going to test him again later?" Hawkeye asked. "Even if we're going to test him, we should at least wait until he finishes his work." Clearly, he didn't want to disturb someone who was saving a life at this crucial moment.
"Tony, if you really don't trust Miller, then let me keep an eye on him," Natasha suggested. "Didn't you just say that the Secret Agent hasn't shown up for over ten days because of me? So I think I'm quite suitable for this job."
"I'm leaving," Thor said as he walked away. "I won't attack a warrior like this without a reason!" His figure quickly disappeared through the doorway, leaving a room full of people looking at each other in bewilderment.
Captain America, Steve Rogers, left the conference room without a word. He held firm to his beliefs and convictions, and he refused to doubt someone who was doing good for the people.
Soon, Tony Stark was the only one left in the conference room.
Soon, only Tony Stark remained in the conference room. He sat quietly in his chair, his eyes fixed on the monitor, his mind racing. "Jarvis, is that Grandet really the Secret Agent?"
"Sir, according to the system analysis, Dr. Miller and the Secret's physique, voice, and skin condition are completely identical, but their behavior is inconsistent, and they often appear in different places at the same time..." Jarvis paused for a moment, "According to the system analysis, there is a 3% chance that the Secret and Mr. Miller are twins, a 5% chance that they are clones, and a 2% chance that they are simply similar..."
"What about the remaining 90%?" Tony Stark asked, his eyes narrowing slightly.
"Mr. Miller and the Secret are the same person."
"So is it a clone or a split personality?" Tony Stark looked at Miller, who was trying to save people on the surveillance footage, with a look of confusion on his face.
After seeing off the last patient, Miller granted the reporters' interview as promised. A ring of spotlights enveloped him in a blinding white halo, and a dozen microphones practically pierced his face.
"Mr. Doctor, what methods do you have to deal with this lawless terrorist group, the Secret Agents?" a reporter asked impatiently, his tone filled with anxiety and anticipation. Clearly, the Secret Agents had brought immense pressure to the entire United States.
Miller frowned slightly, a hint of helplessness flashing in his eyes. He rubbed the worn mechanical watch on his wrist, a gift from an old man he had cured. It was probably the most valuable thing he owned; the metal bracelet jingled softly with his movements, as if telling a story of the vicissitudes of time.
"I'm just a doctor." His voice was calm and firm. "When a patient comes, I treat him and do my best to save every life. But dealing with a supervillain..." He suddenly chuckled, a hint of self-deprecation and helplessness in his smile, his gaze slowly sweeping across the camera lens. "I don't even know his real name." Miller's words revealed a sense of powerlessness.
"Mr. Miller, do you mean you've already surrendered? What are we ordinary people supposed to do? Faced with the attack by the Secret Agents, are we just supposed to wait to die?" Another reporter's voice rose eight octaves, his emotions becoming increasingly agitated, clearly the horrific scene had overwhelmed him.
Miller's expression turned serious. He looked directly at the reporter and said sincerely, "I'm not saying we're giving up, but we can't blindly fight back. We need time, more information, and more resources. As a doctor, I will do everything I can to protect and treat the injured. But for ordinary people, I advise you to remain vigilant and stay away from dangerous areas as much as possible. If the attackers do launch an attack, try to run to a remote place; that might increase your chances of survival."
"Mr. Miller, do you mean that facing the Secret Ones, our only option is to run away?" another reporter pressed. Miller shook his head slightly, his eyes revealing a resolute and unyielding spirit. "Running away doesn't mean cowardice. Sometimes, preserving strength is for a better counterattack. We don't yet have enough strength and evidence to confront the Secret Ones head-on, but we will not give up."
"Mr. Miller..."
"Mr. Miller..."
"Uh... today's interview is over, I have to go, goodbye." Looking at the reporters in front of him who seemed to have countless questions, Miller glanced at his watch, indicating that it was getting late and he had to leave.
After he drove away in his newly purchased luxury sports car, the reporters were still discussing Miller's words, filled with unease and confusion, unsure of how to proceed in the future.
