Hogwarts: The Witch Education Handbook

Chapter 10 Professor McGonagall's Self-Doubt

9:8 a.m. on August 5th.

Sean arrived at the Hogwarts Vice-Headmaster's office half an hour early using Floo Powder.

Today, he was dressed in a long robe, looking exceptionally formal and dignified.

This robe was also the first time Sean had worn it today. The deep purple silk shimmered with a captivating luster in the sunlight, its smooth and heavy texture resembling stars in the night sky, attracting all eyes.

The collar and cuffs of the robe were trimmed with exquisite silver trim, which shimmered in the light, giving the whole garment a noble yet luxurious feel, like a medieval aristocrat who had traveled through the dust of time and walked gracefully before everyone.

Sean's handsome and deep features complemented the long robe perfectly.

His eyes were as deep as the sea, sparkling with wisdom and decisiveness, which echoed the deep purple of his robe. His face was resolute yet gentle, and the magnificent robe made him appear even more imposing.

At this moment, Sean had no doubt that if he and Lockhart were to appear at Flourish and Blotts at the same time, the group of enthusiastic fans would completely forget about Lockhart and flock to him, Sean Phillips.

Of course, he didn't want that.

"Mr. Phillips, please stop standing there grinning like an idiot." Before Sean could even take in his surroundings, a familiar voice rang in his ears.

He looked up and saw Professor McGonagall, whom he hadn't seen in a long time, sitting behind her desk, looking at him with a serious expression.

"Professor McGonagall, it's been a long time." Sean greeted Professor McGonagall while taking a collector's edition novel with his autograph from his briefcase and handing it to her.

Sean was well-prepared for the interview.

Not only did he spend three days and three nights frantically practicing black magic on Bella, but he also prepared many exquisite little gadgets.

As the saying goes, it's never wrong to be overly polite.

He prepared a collector's edition novel for Professor McGonagall, which was also the result of his careful selection.

Which teacher doesn't hope that their students will make a name for themselves and achieve something after graduation, gaining recognition from the public?

His rare edition novels can serve this purpose.

Whenever Professor McGonagall heard someone mention his name or saw the novel, she would think of Phillips, a student she had taught and watched grow up...

This point would surely be especially appealing to Professor McGonagall, who has a strong sense of responsibility and honor.

Sure enough, just as he had predicted, Professor McGonagall's facial expression changed when she took the novel.

However, what Sean didn't know was that Professor McGonagall wasn't as proud of him as he claimed.

On the contrary, Professor McGonagall was now deeply mired in self-doubt.

Based on Phillips's recent performance... is he really qualified to be the professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts, a course that carries a great deal of risk?

Is she really getting old? She can't even recognize people properly anymore...

How come she never noticed that Lockhart and Phillips had such a talent for adventure when they were in school?

Especially Lockhart and Phillips, one a Ravenclaw graduate and the other a Hufflepuff graduate... they have absolutely nothing to do with her Gryffindor.

Logically speaking, given their adventurous spirit, their ability to be both bold and meticulous, and their ability to fight countless monsters like werewolves and vampires and escape unscathed, at least one of them should have been assigned to Gryffindor, right?

Could it be that she wasn't the only one who misjudged the Sorting Hat, but that the Sorting Hat itself made a mistake?

However, so far in this interview, the most commendable thing about Phillips is his sense of time.

The letter she sent clearly stated that the interview would start at 10 o'clock, but Phillips arrived a full half hour early... She had just opened the fireplace (Floo Powder) passage between the two locations when he turned around and came over.

Is it because I've been away from school for too long and I miss it...?

Sean watched as Professor McGonagall stared at the novel he had just handed her, her expression shifting between anger and uncertainty, for almost a minute now.

Could it be... that he took the wrong gift?

There shouldn't be any problem... He specifically checked it before he left.

Just as Sean was feeling uneasy, Professor McGonagall finally came to her senses and said to Sean standing in front of her, "Mr. Phillips, I didn't expect you to have gone through so much in just a few years after graduation. As your former professor, I am proud of you."

Sean smiled shyly: "It's an honor to hear your praise again, Professor McGonagall. Without your guidance, I wouldn't be who I am today. I will always remember your influence and teachings. My admiration for you is like a never-ending river, as..."

The second trick for returning to your alma mater for an interview: attribute your achievements to the school's excellent system and the teachers' patient guidance.

When speaking to a professor, the latter is the key, because you need to tell him what you want to say; when speaking to the principal, you should highlight the excellence of the school and indirectly highlight his effective management, while praising the principal himself would be a poor choice.

These techniques were ones he learned in his previous life when he worked in an office.

He would call it the workplace magic of a mysterious ancient Eastern country, and sometimes, these tricks are even more effective than magic.

These little tricks didn't seem to have much effect on the elderly Professor McGonagall.

Under Professor McGonagall's slightly strange gaze, Sean's voice grew softer and softer until it eventually faded away completely.

Looking at her former student, who was somewhat dishonest and even trying to be clever, Professor McGonagall sighed and put her hand to her forehead.

She probably now knows how Phillips escaped from the vicious werewolves and vampires.

Perhaps it wasn't the magic wand he relied on, but rather his eloquent tongue.

She was becoming increasingly worried about whether Phillips was up to the job of professor of Defense Against the Dark Arts.

However, Albus always makes the selections, so anyone who gets Albus's attention must have some skills.

Professor McGonagall nodded silently to herself, then said rather decisively, "Come with me, I'll take you to see Headmaster Dumbledore."
