Chapter 68 Is this what you call exciting?
"I feel a little unwell," Zatanna said softly.
"Just bear with it," Connors whispered in Zatanna's ear.
The two are currently hiding behind a statue in the museum, which is also the only place where they can effectively use their "little tricks" to hide.
Even so, the space was still cramped, and Connors was almost pressed tightly against Zatanna.
To save as much space as possible, the two did not face each other; instead, Zatanna leaned against Connors.
Even so, Zatanna still felt slightly uncomfortable and wished she could learn spatial magic on the spot, tear a crack in the air, and crawl into it.
"Shh!"
Wonder Woman Diana jumped in through the skylight, and Connors gestured to Zatanna.
At this moment, as seen in the surveillance footage, Diana was still holding a slightly glowing object in her hand, looking at it from left to right, and even passing by the statue where Connors was.
She stopped in front of a ceramic jar with two large handles, and then chuckled softly:
"Menalip? That's pretty good. I've always said your work has collectible value."
"Who is Menalip?" Connors wondered for a moment, then realized what was going on when he heard the second half of Wonder Woman Diana's sentence.
This is most likely something made by a member of Paradise Island that ended up in the ordinary world; it's probably not what Diana is looking for.
Just as he expected, Wonder Woman Diana did not linger in front of the pottery jar, but continued her search, eventually stopping not far from Connors.
To be precise, it stopped in front of another pottery jar with a similar shape but a completely different pattern.
She extended a finger, flicked it, and shattered the pottery jar. Connors could clearly see a small cylinder inside the broken jar.
Wonder Woman Diana's target was this cylinder. She picked it up and muttered to herself with some confusion:
Why did Faust want this?
"I don't know," Connors said.
Wonder Woman Diana was startled. She grabbed the cylinder with one hand and took the greatsword off her back with the other. At the same time, a gust of wind came, and she turned around and swung the greatsword without hesitation.
"who!"
Unlike her melodious murmurs earlier, her shouts now carried the heroic spirit of an Amazon warrior.
Despite the sweeping motion of her greatsword, Wonder Woman Diana failed to strike Connors.
In reality, Connors didn't actually make a move; it was the statue where he was hiding that made the move.
Although it was very strange, "Athena's Vision" could not detect any signs of life activity in the statue.
But the moment Wonder Woman Diana touched the cylinder, the statue twisted its neck and thrust the spear she was holding into it.
Fortunately, Connors said "I don't know," which immediately put Diana on alert. She successfully blocked the spear that was thrust at her and jumped to the side.
The statue that had been hiding had run away, and Connors had no intention of hiding any longer. Instead, he took out a handful of sunflower seeds from his pocket and watched "Wonder Woman" battle the "magical statue."
Without time to ponder why someone had suddenly appeared, Wonder Woman Diana untied the Lasso of Truth from her waist, swung it a few times, and threw it at the statue.
The lasso precisely caught the statue's arm holding the spear, and Wonder Woman Diana pulled hard backward, attempting to shatter the bronze statue into pieces.
But when she pulled, the bronze statue only swayed slightly, then its arm bent and it didn't budge an inch. Wonder Woman Diana couldn't pull it away. In fact, Connors looked on with great surprise as the statue reversed its direction and pulled Diana over, while Connors clenched his fist and punched it.
Back at the "Ghost Face Bar," I can now answer those patrons' questions: Wonder Woman wore underwear...
Connors watched Diana, the wolf-fox, being sent flying by a single punch, and thought to himself leisurely.
"Aren't you going to help her?" Zatanna also ran over from her hiding place, looking curiously at Connors, who was leisurely eating sunflower seeds.
"I'm not exactly a helpful neighbor." Connors had no intention of intervening; he was just there to watch the drama unfold.
Furthermore, if Wonder Woman can't even handle a statue, then she shouldn't be called a "Wonder Woman."
Pack up and go home to raise pigs.
As for the damage caused by Wonder Woman Diana's battle with the statue, the mess inside the museum was even less of his concern.
Not only that, in order to exploit the bug in the gossip system that allowed for "higher rewards for participating," Connors even picked up a ceramic bowl and tossed it over with a light touch.
*Splat*
The ceramic bowl hit the statue without causing any pain or itch. The guy didn't even glance at Connors, dropped the spear in his hand, and unleashed his fists, charging fiercely at "Wonder Woman".
This level of attack was nothing to Diana, but because she had that cylinder in her hand, she was constantly worried about breaking it, and for a moment she was in a bit of a mess.
When she saw Connors toss a broken bowl at her in a rather mischievous manner, an idea struck her, and she decisively threw the cylinder she was holding in return:
"Catch!"
Connors didn't look at her, but turned to talk to Zatanna instead:
"Well, I reckon this level of fighting is nothing. If you want to keep watching the show with me, you'd better be prepared for what's like in Metropolis."
Zatanna, however, was not focused on catching what Wonder Woman Diana threw at her. But with only ordinary physical abilities, she was not capable of doing so and could only watch helplessly as the object was about to hit the ground.
Only then did Connors flick the cylinder, which was only a few centimeters off the ground, with his toe, and let it fly up and land steadily in his hand.
"Do you always like to do these kinds of exciting things?" Zatanna asked, looking at Connors' relaxed expression with a hint of helplessness.
"Is this what you call exciting?" Connors asked doubtfully, then turned to the side.
He picked up the spear again and thrust it at the statue that Connors was thrusting at, but the blow missed.
This guy's target doesn't seem to be limited to "Wonder Woman" Diana, but rather the mysterious cylinder. Now that it's in Connors' hands, the statue also begins to attack Connors.
Compared to Diana, the "Wonder Woman" who was hesitant and timid while holding the cylinder, Connors was much more relaxed and at ease.
The combination of five abilities—"Spider-Sense," "Tricks," "Precision Manipulation," "Human Limits," and "Athena's Vision"—made Connors wish he could simply ignore the statue's existence.
Not only that, he even had the mind to think about other things:
"Oh, right, Zatanna, why don't you smash it with a broken bowl too?"
