Chapter 7 Follow Me to the Underworld

The Joker was going to say something on the TV show, but that wasn't really important to Connors.

Because after he finished cleaning up, he discovered something:

Spider-Senses transformed into a magnet, drawing in Cindy Moon, the "spider silk" that was hurtling toward it, while Harley Quinn was nowhere to be seen.

He immediately decided to go out and find Harley, not because he was worried that she might be in danger, but because he was afraid that if he was too late, he would miss out on the latest gossip.

The rewards for secondhand gossip are quite different from those for gossip you personally experience.

Get dressed, go downstairs, drive, and hit the road.

Just as Connors was congratulating himself on leaving before Cindy "Spider Silk" arrived, he suddenly heard a gasp.

Upon hearing the sound, pedestrians on both sides of Gotham Street covered their mouths and stared at the sky in disbelief.

Then large swaths of spider silk rained down from the sky, and Connors' car was lifted into the air.

Sensing the presence of spider silk, he knew that the spider silk had found him, so he simply turned off the car in mid-air, reclined the seat, and wanted to see what kind of trouble they were going to cause this time.

Soon, the car was pulled by the spider webs and flew to a height of nearly 20 meters above the ground, stopping between two tall buildings and above the street.

Cindy had now laid a trap, and Connors and his car were the prey.

……

"Damn it, it's the Joker again?"

"This time it wasn't the clown, but someone we've never seen before. She seems to have spider-like abilities. According to the citizen who called the police, she appears to be a woman. In just a few breaths, she spun a large web between the two buildings and even lifted a two-ton car into the air."

"That's your job, Gordon. Send in helicopters for rescue if necessary. I still need to deal with him."

The Gotham City Police Department Chief pointed to the Joker on the computer screen in front of him and said to Captain Gordon.

Gordon didn't delay and quickly gathered his men. Police cars arrived with sirens blaring.

When they arrived at the scene, they found that, just as the passerby who had called the police had described, a car was suspended in mid-air by a huge spider web.

but……

Captain Gordon stared at the car, which was swaying and shaking rhythmically in the air, and fell into deep thought.

The surrounding crowd didn't leave; instead, they all stood there holding up their phones, seemingly enjoying the spectacle.

"Deploy the helicopter and first check if the hostages inside the vehicle are safe. Do not use weapons of mass destruction. You can try using a flamethrower to burn through the spider web."

"Place air cushions under the car to ensure it won't explode when it falls."

Captain Gordon took out his walkie-talkie and had barely finished speaking when the car that had been swaying in the air stopped moving.

After a while, the car door opened in full view of everyone, and a masked man and a similarly masked woman jumped out, embracing each other.

At this time, the air cushion below had not yet been laid out, and even the evacuation of the onlookers had not been completed.

Amid Gordon's wide-eyed stare and the gasps of onlookers, the two in the air launched a spider silk thread that attached itself to a tall building, and then swung away.

By the time the helicopter finally arrived, the two had already vanished.

……

"Cindy, could you please not kidnap me in broad daylight next time? This is way too conspicuous."

Connors hugged Cindy and spoke their first words to each other so far.

"..." Cindy remained silent, her fingertips continuously emitting spider silk, but her breathing began to quicken.

Connors was startled. Using spider silk to have sex in the air was exciting enough, but he couldn't do it again while flying in the air, could he?

Fortunately, although Cindy Moon's breathing was rapid, the two of them had just gone through a big battle and were still able to control it.

While suspended in the air, Connors' mouth and nose were constantly filled with air, and when Cindy ignored him, he simply shut his mouth as well.

On the large screen in the street, the clown was still talking animatedly:

"Today, your dear clown has something quite special to do..."

"Those rich and powerful guys have ruled us common folk for far too long. Now it's their turn to be tormented!"

"So, I'm going to have a buy-one-get-one-free deal: today, I'm going to take care of Judge Thomas Lake and Gotham's favorite billionaire, Bruce Wayne."

Connors said to Cindy, who was constantly shooting spider silk from his arms:

"To Gotham Reservoir."

He had no idea where the reservoir was, but Cindy's spider-sense, both now and in the comics, was far superior to Spider-Man's, so he wasn't worried at all that Cindy didn't know the reservoir's location.

Soon, the two changed direction and swam quickly towards Gotham Reservoir.

Although the process is not exactly the same as in the comics, the development of events is similar. Connors had just read the comic "The Man Who Laughs" before he traveled through time, which is why he was able to realize from the beginning that it was the Joker's "laughing gas" that was causing the problem.

According to the plot, killing Judge Thomas Lake and Bruce Wayne were not the Joker's real goals.

The madman's real purpose was to inject the nitrous oxide virus into the reservoir, causing the entire city to die laughing.

He sought revenge on everyone who had made him into this clown, so the entire city "followed him to the underworld."

As the story unfolds, it's almost certain that Batman will recapture the Joker and end the disaster.

But that won't do. Even if Connors were there in person, he would only be a spectator.

If you want bigger rewards, you have to participate!

He gave Batman a hint about the "reservoir" yesterday, but given Batman's intelligence, he could definitely guess that the combination of "laughing gas" and "reservoir" is a bombshell capable of paralyzing the entire city.

Batman must have already made arrangements there, but on the other hand, the suspicious Batman will not be led by the nose; the other side must have a backup plan.

They might end up taking down both themselves and the Joker, which would defeat Connors's purpose.

While there was still time, Connors needed to hurry to the reservoir.

Of course, there was another reason why he abandoned his search for Harley Quinn and went to find the Joker instead:

Harley Quinn just flashed by behind the Joker on the big screen in the street!

Harley's appearance behind the Joker wasn't out of lingering feelings, but rather as she swung a baseball bat, preparing to launch a sneak attack, only to be struck on the back of the head by a green cane.

Enjoying the drama and rescuing Harley—I can do both without neglecting either!

Before reaching the reservoir, Connors offered Cindy Moon, nicknamed "Spider Silk," a cucumber on a high-rise building, then bid farewell to Cindy, whom he hadn't spoken a word to until now, and headed straight for the reservoir.

……

Gotham Reservoir.

This place has been temporarily set up to resemble a magic stage.

The Joker was moved here from Arkham Asylum a long time ago; otherwise, he would have been captured by Batman long ago.

He was wearing a purple suit and had green hair. Behind him stood a guy wearing a green suit and a green top hat.

Unlike the clown's solid-color suit, the green suit was covered with question marks of all sizes.

"You are the cancer of Gotham, spreading from the lymph nodes to the spleen. If it spreads to the bladder, even God can't save us... but I'm on chemotherapy."

The Joker splashed cold water on Harley Quinn, who was lying on the ground, to wake her up, and chuckled as he spoke.

Bang! Batman unfurled his cape in mid-air and landed on the ground:

"It's over, Joker... and Harleen too."

"...Riddler? What are you doing here?"
